Your thoughts?
I have both so take this as impartial. I haven’t had much of an online experience on my PS3. I can always find comp for VF5 and HF in XBL. I love my PS3 but I plan to play SFIV and STHD on the 360 simply for the community. Just my 2 cents.
The newest VF is on both systems, however the 360 version supports online play (never tried though, so I don’t know if it’s any good).
Tekken 5 DR is only on the PS3, which you can also play online (which isn’t that good, but some people like it).
It’s a tough choice. I’d get a PS3 just for backwards compatability as well as Tekken DR.
FUCK I HATE THESE KIND OF TOPICS…O wait its next gen.
I’d wait honestly til more games start poppin out.
I play VF5 a lot online. It isn’t lag free but I seem to get great connections even with people from England and Japan and I am only on DSL. With a good connection the game is only slightly slower than local.
I haven’t played Tekken on PS3 but I can say that Puzzle Fighter plays just fine online.
im gettin a ps3 to play disgaea3 so yea.
360 has a MUCH larger online community and a MUCH better online interface/service all the features XBL has make for a near perfect online experience IMO every console in the future should follow XBL’s example and it’s BC so u can play anniversary collection and kof online not to mention u can also download sf2 hyperfighting which i think is the most played online fighter ever.
I see that but what about the new things factoring in. Blu-ray taking over has already caused the ps3 to out sell the 360 in january and that may continue. By the time the sf games hit the ps3 community might be catching up especially since sony system arent breaking down left and right. Not to mention its large user base in japan will be great for fighters.
sounds like you already know which system you’re gonna buy
Depends.
I think a lot of the fighting games that have some sort of us mainstream appeal will end up on 360. But if you like the lesser known fighting games that come out of japan go ahead and pick up a ps3.
For some reason, I doubt stuff like blazblue and meltybloods will ever make it to the xbox.
But for games who already have a following here in the states I believe will port their games over to 360(SNK with kofxii for example)
If online play is important to you then pick up a 360. If you will always have plenty of local comp and already have a lot of playstation sticks you like to use. Go ps3 since there are easy ways to get those older playstation controllers working on your ps3. Nearly everything that will come out on xbox360 will end up on ps3 anyways. Or at least it is a safe assumption.
Thus,
If online player really matters and you want the biggest community and most online comp** = 360**
If non established american fighting game franchises are your thing(arcana heart, meltyblood for example… fighting games that are mostly unknown in mainstream gaming here in the states) = ps3
If you want a blueray player = ps3
If you have old sticks from playstation you would still love to use = ps3
Well fortunately you have until the release of either HD or SFIV to decide. As it stands right now I feel comfortable saying my 360 will get more use because of the community. If by the release of the games that dynamic changes, and PSN is equally robust then you have more reason to buy a PS3.
But you are looking to invest in a system since you aren’t going to buy both. An argument for the PS3 as it stands can only be made for what it may become outside of it’s library and it’s bluray ability. Right now it just doesn’t have the online presence of its competition. The 360 is a solid established standardized system running strong. I would weigh both those facts for you needs.
How important is bluray to you? How important are those exclusive titles you speak of? How important is competitive online gaming? Do you care if the online experience has depth or gets the job done? Only you can answer these.
If you want to know specifically how I would spend my money I will tell you this, I got my 360 well before my PS3. I got the PS3 because it was a bluray player that played games as well. To date I have 3 games for the PS3; Ratchet, Drakes and Devil May Cry. I have more games than I want to list for my 360 and only play the 360 online because I can easily find people to play against. I would suggest the 360 if you have to choose one and only one. Hope this helps.
BTW: To my knowledge, Samurai showdown 2 has only been announced for XBL, not yet PSN.
This can be summed up very easily.
If you want GG, Melty Blood, Arcana, Tekken and/or SNK games, get the PS3.
If not, get the 360.
The BC on 360 sucks, they only select a few games and even then SRK members have to beg for them to be BC enabled.
Yea, That and fatal fury special shows at least some willingness by snk to work with the 360, indeed snk put out a few kof games on the original xbox.
I really think it is a safebet that established franchises here in america by capcom and snk have a great chance of showing up on 360.
dreamcast? Guess i’m old school…
Not so old school dude, I still break out my DC and my SATURN from time to time. Where else can I get my VS and DS fix?
But since it died - the PS2 has picked up almost all the Dreamcast fighting classics… atleast in Japan. PS2 has the biggest and best collection of fighters now - and probably forever. So a PS3 with backwards compatibility… But then, I’d just keep my PS2… especially cuz of controller compatibility.
As for next gen games, each system has about one exclusive fighting game each right now. Not much to base a purchase on.
I’d say PS3 simply for the fact that it’s far easier to get nice sticks on it.
The moment MS decides remove the 360 controller security so anyone can make 360 controllers, I might reverse that decision. But the PS3 is almost sure to get all the cool fighters anyway.
I heard that they took out the BC for the newer PS3 systems is that true or was that just some random person on the net bullshiting?
It is almost to early to tell. While the PS3 is beating the stuffing out of 360 in Japan, the 360 has a strong hold in the US and its online system is as good as any of the current consoles can get.
If you have a PS2 stick with that since it is still getting games. Wait until the dust settles around a few of the true next gen fighters, like SF4, KOFXII or BlazeBlue to see where the main fighters will land since right now both systems look viable.
