Valkyrie Sky is an MMO shmup that apparently includes a player versus player component. I don’t know anything about it except that the linked gameplay video looks quite pretty.
A third Touhou fighting game has recently been released.
Unthinkable Natural Law (Touhou Hisoutensoku)

Apparently the Touhou franchise is a long-running series of games, most of which are traditional shmups, and these fighting entries are considered to be exceptions among the series’ fans; that’s probably old news to a lot of you, but I just found that out.
Two of the Touhou games are versus shooters that are much more shmups than they are fighting game.
Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream (Touhou Yumejiku)
This one was made for the PC-98. I can’t find any match videos for it. Here’s a to a video of a guy playing alone so you can see how old it looks.
Phantasmagoria of Flower View (Touhou Kaeizuka)
It features netplay and an English translation patch. It seems fun. Here’s a to a recording of two people playing against each other so you can see how neat it looks.
I’ve been wondering where this idea of a competitive versus shooter got started. Scooter Shooter is the earliest game I’ve been able to find that seems to match our vague criteria. I couldn’t find any videos of it on YouTube, but we do have a description with screenshots. http://hg101.kontek.net/konamishooters/konamishooters2.htm
So what’s its proper name?
Everything I know about it is from that SRK thread and the first half of the first page of results from a Google search for the “wrong” name. Anyway UNL sounded a lot more convenient than the literal translations.
“UNL” was a made up name based loosely on one possible translation of that subtitle. Even the quote you pasted stated the actual translations have almost nothing to do with what the fans sometimes use.
It’s: Soku, SWRS, SWR2, TH12.3
It isn’t “UNL”. That would be on par with mistranslating CvS2’s subtitle “Mark of the Millennium” with “1000 Year Post” and therefor referring to CvS2 as 1KYP. Does “Unthinkable Natural Law” actually sound like it makes sense to you?
But just so you know, I’m not getting on your case so sorry if my posts seem really crass. I’m long since sick if the stupid game and the casual/touhou fans that muck up the player base…

Look at what a huge jerk this guy is!
As far as I can tell, this appears to be a commercial English localization of Acceleration of Suguri (AoSX) and not a new game or expansion.
Babel Sword
Just stumbled upon it. It’s at least a few years old. It was made in Mugen. Looks pretty cool.

Someone once made an FGD thread for it that didn’t take off. At all.
