I’m Cuban and currently living in Cuba. You couldn’t be more wrong. You guys are way too naive and too easily deceived by propaganda. Try not to go so hard on something you know nothing or little about. I can assure you that 99% of the cuban people are sad. You can notice it in their faces and if you stop for a second to talk to them, they WILL tell you they are.
I was awake that friday night around midnight when Raúl came on TV. My mother literally cried. We were all shocked.
It was only natural due to age and health issues but still hearing the news was shocking.
He played a big part in helping a number of African nations achieve Independence, when most of the western world was exploiting it (and still is honestly)
And he was a big supporter of Nelson Mandela, way before it was popular to do so.
I can’t excuse what Fidel did to his own people, but there is a reason the rest of the world praises him.
Yeah, it’s America with freedom of press and opposing views that’s washed by propaganda. Not you, the Cubans with limited media, damn near no internet, and censored your entire lives who aren’t giving in to propaganda.
You mean higher quality of living, best quality of life in south america, and a GDP only slightly less than todays standard but the original numbers were 50+ years ago?
Your freedom of press answers to those with money and power. Opposing views in america have always meant nothing. It’s all the same. And what’s even worse is that most of you don’t care about anything politics related…don’t care and don’t know.
The biggest proof of how easily you guys are tricked into believing whatever shit they throw at you (no offense), is that a dumbshit like Donald Trump got elected president. That’s like the biggest joke in USA presidential history. That’s how naive you can be. Millions of people actually thought that Trump was the right choice to run things in the USA. He is everything a president should not be. Yet he will be president.
So, again, don’t state what you don’t know. You are beyond misinformed.
I’ve had several who thought he was “not as bad” as people make him out to be, and what he did to push the Soviet Union towards modernization outweighs the bodies.-shrug- my GF who is a Soviet animation buff loves what he did to push that forward, but will at least admit dude was basically a monster.
Too all of the people here spouting the usual dumbshit that you would expect from a decieved gringo, i am sure that you get your facts about cuba from all the documentaries filmed on puerto rico and republica dominicana because the so called poverty conditions that the media claimed that the cubans lived on, where non present since it was pure fabrications.
I have been in cuba 3 times, and not as a tourist may i say, but as an exchange student from some of my classes. I have lived with cubans a good amount of time so i am sure that i know more than whatever shit you think you know. One of my best friends (who rest in peace now) was cuban, he married an aunt of mine, and even when he left cuba, he had nothing to say but praise for it.
I also have seen the great work that their people do to keep moving their country forward despite the usa goverment trying to isolate them with their international politics and what not.
I have also seen 1st hand how their people have helped and mproved other countries from latin america.
While you all keep drinking that kool aid.
You mean the real dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista who impoverished Cuba to no end?
I am pretty sure they remember.
I once did a group project in high school in which we had to do a faux sales pitch to bring Home Depot to your selected foreign country. Ours was Cuba. We easily one. That take, ya commie bastard. MURICA - 1, CASTRO - 0.
hahaa; people who criticize Fidel are drinking the Koolaid? It takes a special kind of ignorance to blind yourself to the history of human rights abuses in communist Cuba. Stop getting your history from romanticized hollywood and musician outlets. Sure there may have been some virtue in standing up to the previous US supported dictator, but the story doesnt end there (and there was a reason for this US position). Have you ever known or talked to any Cuban refugees? Comparing Cuban society to the rest of the world a) before the revolution and b) across Castro’s rule is a bit of an interesting tell. However, the sheer amount of oppression that is willingly overlooked/excused by sympathizers is really enlightening. Consider just the smallest of peaks into Castro’s world; Don’t you wonder why Cuba is full of nothing but classic 50s vintage autos? Look into why exactly that is and cast yourself on a journey down the rabbithole that is the oppression of Cuban society.
Get out of here with that anecdotal ‘my-Aunt-married-a-Cuban-so-there-is-no-way-you-can-tell-me-ish’ garbage. Just who is the useful idiot here?
