Would using a single converter to do PSX and Saturn in work? I was thinking of putting a switch on the right-hand jumper to select PSX/Saturn input (Unless there’s a way to do it without a physical switch, I couldn’t think of one). Is there any risk of damaging anything if a PSX controller’s connected with one of the jumpers set, or vice-versa?
No risk of damage, but highly unsupported.
I was testing the supergun I made and I was going crazy figuring out why all the buttons were going turbo. That is, until I read the original post in this thread, so glad it wasn’t my fault!
I got two of these for my supergun. I installed one tonight, and it worked perfectly with a PS2 Pad.
Question: Can I piggy-back the GND and VCC from the first FGW#1 to the second one without any issues? Will these passthrough voltage and GND even though there’s no controller plugged into FGW#1, i.e. if I wanna use the Player2 side only on my supergun for some reason?
Yes, you can. You’ll see all three of the VCC and GND holes are connected, so you can run power and ground from cab power supply to the first, and add a wire to bridge it to the second just peachy.
Peachy indeed.
One more question, the VCC line on the FGW will go over the PSX VCC so I can use it in the other end, yes? For example to power a SPARK or a controller PCB?
VCC on the FGW is whatever you connect it to. There’s no voltage regulation on the board. It’s made with the focus on +5v, but may run if powered by 3.3v from a PSX. In a cabinet, most folks just connect the VCC to a line on the +5v rail on the power supply or harness. Whatever is VCC to the FGW Converter is the same VCC sent to the controller. So if the converter is wired to a 5v supply, the PSX gamepad would be powered at 5v, which more often than not is what converters use to power them.
Thanks, I thought as much, just wanted to make sure.
don’t mean to be a bother, but could you elaborate? i got a dual mod Saturn FGWidget converter i’m working on but i don’t get any input from the Saturn pad for Up, Circle and R1 (from the converter). all inputs check out on PC test…i’m stumped :S
To be clear, you have a dual mod Saturn + console x controller that otherwise works fine on Saturn and console x, but it just works only partially when combined with the FGW? How does the PC fit into this?
so i’ve got an HRAP3 pcb + 360 Brawl pad switch is via DPDT in a project box. i’ve got all the connections from the PS3 & 360 pcbs connected via terminal strips. i’ve then got my FGW Converter wired up to the input side of the terminal strips. when testing the button inputs on the PC, everything from the Saturn pad registers except for Up direction, Z & B (Up, R1 & Circle respectively). i’ve tried several Saturn pads and the results are the same. possible bad board or could it be the female end of my Saturn extension cable? i can post pics when i get off work today
I wouldn’t think it’s the female saturn cable since that would probably prevent all inputs from working. To troubleshoot further, you’ll need to know how to use a meter to check voltages. Pics would also help.
Definitely a problem with a connection problem between the Saturn pad and the FGW converter, specifically the D0 line (Saturn pin #3). Those three signals are all carried over the same data line, so for whatever reason, the converter isn’t seeing that pin from the pad. Might be the connection on the female end, or a miswiring.
total miswiring. everything is now working 100%. thanks for the help everyone!
I’ve heard none of the commercial Saturn converters are compatible with the Saturn 3D pad. Does anyone know if the converter you can make with the FGW kit accepts inputs from the 3D pad? This would be for a Saturn->PS1/2 converter.
Digital only.
I made a supergun for a customer and used the FGW for the first time. I fully tested everything before shipping it out and when it got it, left and A no longer function on player 1. Player 2 works fine. He said the connection from the jamma board to the FGW is 100%. Is it possible it’s a faulty chip, Marcus?

Some new info, we swapped the chips for both player 1 and player 2 and the problem stayed on the player 1 side.
We have 100% continuity from jamma board to FGW as well as saturn controller port to the FGW itself.
Do you still sell one of this?
just want to make sure so here is my question
This converter will help in using PS2 controller on arcade right?
I have a noir cabinet on service at my arcade and many customers ask to play Tekken Tag 2 with their controllers
so i’m find help and hope I will gain it here.
