FGs: Best and Worst years

Ladies, they’re video games. Take it easy.

And unless YOU are playing against Justin Wong, your opinion on his play means nothing. You’re a face in a crowd.

The problem is fighting games attract a certain kind of Type-A personality in direct opposition to people who just want to play a game. “Fighting Games”, anthropologically speaking are tests of dominance between men. Think about how pissed off you get sometimes when you lose… it’s because you were dominated and don’t like being in a position of submission. On the other hand, these are just little contests with no real-world repercussions. Really simple evolutionary stuff here. Y’all need to be more self-aware.

And less aggro in general.

Best years
2001-2003
CVS2 was out and there was an arcade 8 minutes from my house that everybody played at.

Worst years
2003-present
Arcade closed down and nobody wants to play CVS2 with me at the dollar theater 20 minutes from house.

There are still CVS2 cabinets in the area? I would most definitely play you in CVS2. I bet the sticks suck though

^Yeah it’s in Fayetteville. The sticks are good, just the right player side triggers FP here and there. Not too bad.
Anyways, I wasn’t meaning to derail the thread lol.

What is so bad about the console 3s versions?

Not sure, but supposedly the PS2 version runs faster than the original arcade version. There are also some minor differences in frames, which alters the timing of hit confirms. A lot of the FFA So cal 3s players never played on console so this isn’t the version they’re the most confident in.

Not to mention the ports are Version B if I’m not mistaken, which means no unblockables.

Unblockables work on PS2.

Probably the best way to describe what’s fucked up with the PS2 versions is to quote Flare

Ah okay. Could’ve sworn that the PS2 didn’t have them…of course the only time I played the PS2 version was when I was like…12.

really simple to sloppy thinkers who think just because their facile evopsych explanations appeal to “common sense” that there must be some truth to them, regardless of their complete lack of empirical support, sure.

Surely you’re joking?

EVO 08 was Complete Choi Saturation though, so it’s okay in my book.

The best years of FGs - when I was in high school and could practice all day
The worst years of FGs - after I got a 40+ hour a week job

no evopsych really is a largely nonsense discipline that spends the majority of its time trying to explain why black people are so dumb and ugly and why rape is only right and natural

It’s a pretty reasonable correlation I made.

Seems like you’re a little sore on evolutionary psychology. The medium doesn’t change the message and all that.

I mean, how bout you refute the idea I posited?

Edit: I have no horse in the evopsych race. I’ve never taken a class. I dropped out of school in 8th grade.

KSK made it to 3S Top 8 at Evo2004 with Alex. I remember the last moment of his match against Raoh: he managed to parry the first few hits of Chun’s SA2 but got thrown off by her fireball and lost.

Lack of evidence? It’s just lazy thinking founded on baselessly naturalising what may well be social behaviours because it sounds right, like all (edit: okay, most) evopsych.

And I’m not sure your analysis of fighting games is even true as a social fact, ignoring the machinations behind it. I don’t play to dominate people. It’s more about seeing myself improve.

I’ll stand behind my analysis of fighting games as a source of dominance.

There will always be outliers, but think about the random people you play online. You think the majority are in it to grow as people?

Edit: And I’d say it’s hardly lazy to critically analyze something. Just based on our little exchange I’d wager you and I are above the intelligence level of most people on this forum. Even if you find my theory poor, it’s surely more worthwhile than most things posited about video games and the source of frustration they can be.

I think the majority of people playing are just trying to kill some time. Is that some evolutionary imperative?

“Just to kill some time” is the worst reason I can imagine to do anything.
