Fei Long Theory Fighter/General Discussion

Thats peculiar–im pretty sure ive been grabbed after ex gh but maybe im confusing the instance for a post spd knockdown mixup.

well, gief gets to different distances after connected EX GH’s, depending on how far he was before the GH. in other words, it dosent always yield the same pushback distance.

for example(example only, dont quote me)

if he does max range st.lkxxxex grn hnd, fei is too far to be scooped by U2 on a backdash.
if he does wakeup green hand, for example, and you get hit, then you may be close enough for U2 to grab you

also, all characters dont cover as much ground as fei on backdashes, so sagat for instance, may be grabbed by U2 at almost any range after getting hit by EX GH, where as the gief player will have to be more aware of his spacing with other characters

Just theory fighting here, but after an EX GH it might be an idea to focus for a small moment and then back dash.

If they use a normal you will absorb it and then back dash (or release it if you see it).
If they SPD you get scooped.
If they Ultra 2 you are still focusing and can dash out after it and punish.
etc.

Meh, feel free to critique/test it as I’m under the weather right now and cba.

If he does another EX GH, you get counter-hit for a knockdown. The SPD knockdown also shouldn’t be underrated since it leads to another 50-50 mix-up that puts you in the same exact situation as before (maybe with one less bar for Gief, but he could always do something like backdash to dodge or sweep to catch your backdash). It’s better to do nothing than to use Focus since if he does EX GH you won’t get hit, and if he does tick you with a jab, you have a chance to backdash or reversal before he attempts to throw. You’d still get scooped from siting still, but it beats all other options and still gives you that punish on U2.

IMO it would be best to take a chance with a jump/backdash/CW/Flame Kick (depending on the situation) and get U2 out of the equation early. If he lands it he does get another mix-up on you, but if you survive it he now has to fight his way back in traditionally. Fei can shut him out at that point; he just has to be sharp and avoid Gief’s random nonsense. Considering Gief would typically have Ultra from taking 50% damage rather than from doing lots of Focus absorptions (since his Focus and dash both suck), if you force U2 out of the match at that point you would only have to contend with 50% more health. Fei can definitely footsie that out.

so i dont like the fei vs yun matchup at all. very hard for me to AA without sitting on a buffered DP.

i think gen does much better against him

top 5 matches i hate fighting as fei. not really my worst matchups, just most annoying

  1. blanka- wake up electricity, wake up ultra, random slides
  2. yun- bastard does what he wants
  3. vega- pokes, pokes, pokes. mash cr.mp
  4. rog- turtle + jabs
  5. bison- turtle + shorts

I agree with everything you said…

Def agree with your top 3, but I’d put chun li as my fourth.

Yun - I,m just using standing Hk to beat him clean or standing jab. I might not have played anyone decent yet though.

+1 for that top 5, though like Highland, I’d replace Yun with Chun Li. I haven’t come across a decent one yet.

Though for the reasons of Blanka, it’s more his wake up EX Rainbow than his electricity. I can stuff wake up electric fine, but EX Rainbow really irks me.

I’ve played some sick Yuns before and it’s just stupid how any one random knockdown forces you to guess like 12 ways. I’d put him above Rog, and replace Blanka with Chun though. Blanka seems like the same old match-up to me and as long as I d/b and cr.LK spam when I see a hop or short ball, he’s got nothin to scare me. If you can AA his jump-ins consistently he can’t even chip you safely. Just gotta have gdlk patience.

Bison still befuddles me when he sits back out of my safe Rekka range. I always feel the need to take a big risk and I hate that. Bisons that rush in like madmen are easier than Dan though. It’s just when I fight someone who really knows how to turtle that the match-up starts to piss me off. Rog is easier for me since his punches aren’t all safe and can sometimes be intercepted. Plus, no real escape options that I can’t beat.

Im EVO bound who will be there as well?

I’m a nobody but I will be there.

I’ll be there.

Ok guys the reason I’m asking about who is going to EVO is that I am going to host the “Who’s the Best Fei” in my room. Inthul, Starnab, Evans, CJ, Justin and Mago are all in it. So if anyone wants to see this your welcome to stop by if not I will have it up for YouTube.

Oh dang. That’s an amazing idea, Jason.

I wish I were going to EVO, if only for that little get together. That would be an amazing experience. Really looking forward to that plan coming to fruition, and thanks for planning to record for the rest of us.

Damn, that sounds pretty gdlk. Forgive me for thinking Mago will mostdef take that. I do hope someone will prove me wrong though.

Sounds interesting, but it sounds more of a who’s the best in a Fei Long mirror match. How is this going down anyways?

So it’s almost 9 in the morning here and I’ve just stayed up all night to catch the pools through to top 8. That was just plain unreal. I was nodding off and then it started to get soooooo hype.

More Vipers in top 8 than Yuns? And only one Fei, and it’s not Mago/Evans/StarNab? Everything I thought I knew got thrown out of the window. Mind = Blown.

Now I’m off to work without sleep! I have to make preparations to go for either 2012/2013.

too many killers. also Mago should have taken Fei vs Wong imo.

Majorly salty Mago lost…Welp, Fuudo is last hope for Fei winning EVO.IF Fuudo goes I’m rooting for Tokido or Poongko. Man I still can’t believe Krone won >.< salty

EVO has been a blast! Some of the most amazing play I have seen. Higgins and myself where in the same pool and we had no big names so we should have won it. If Higgins won 2 more games we would have met in losers finals. It was cool to chill with him for a bit. Starnab, Evans and other Fei players have really rep this year at EVO. The sleeper was DR Ray another pad Fei Long player. He made a case for USA best Fei Long over CJ Truth. I will still try to get that mirror match at some point today as today will only be MvC3 and Tekken for EVO
