Fei Long Theory Fighter/General Discussion

Fancy? Those are pretty standard punishes after catching balrog with a neutral jump. I mean maybe he was trying to set him up for something, like a wakeup head butt, but the punish for that would be the same as what was previously stated. It was probably him not being used to fei in that position.

So…

Fei’s top, and he’s looking to be definately in good shape against the others in the top tiers… Can’t wait for the top 8 at each tourney to read:

  1. (Fei)
  2. (Fei)
  3. (Fei)
  4. (Fei)
  5. (Fei)
  6. (Fei)
  7. (Fei)
  8. (Fei)

Can’t wait to feel the effect of the other characters’ nerfs. Some of you have had a chance to play AE, did it feel as good as I hope it will? (Though I know you had a bit of trouble Jason being on pad ‘n’ all)

i mean in general. trying to pressure balrog is not an easy thing to do when playing fei. yes he might have went for the knock down to wait for a wake-up head butt. going for combos and random chicken wings is not the only way to play the character like most do.

I mean I get what your saying and I agree, but given that huge hit confirmable opportunity what else is there other then going for the combo and doing the damage, rather then taking the chance of a guess if you’re not going to safejump in on his wakeup. But then again, different strokes for different folks.

Again like Higg told you, that is a standard punish on Rog if you nj a rush punch. He wanst setting up anything or putting pressure on Rog. Rog missed a rush punch and a skilled Fei would have took full advantage of the punish as they know Rog has stronger defense and more vitality then Fei. And who would give up 300+ points of dmg? Say what you want about Fei but if any of these new players who pick up Fei and face Inthul, Starnab and Mago they would be exposed in a mirror match as they know there main inside out.

so what your saying is you will suck because you fail to capitalize once? being a skilled fei player has nothing to do with going for full punishes that’s fighting game 101 knowledge. even if you don’t you shouldn’t worry about it and keep playing the match. a lot of players make the mistake thinking that they have to constantly do something when sometimes they dont have to do anything at all. maybe min didn’t cross over or use pressure because he had the life lead, maybe even he just didn’t feel it was worth the risk because its balrog. you just sound salty because others want to pick the character you play since he’s better than before. also if they do face the people you just mentioned of course they might lose because they will be learning the character duh. i swear some people are just obsessed with their character i just look at them as hitboxes. when you play competitively you play a character who can bring you wins. let me ask you something do you think Mago would use fei if he was bad?

of course not, mago is mago. he could have picked any character near the top and still been dominant tho.

I’m salty because I state facts? I don’t care who uses who. I just stated facts of what I seen when someone new pick ups Fei. They are not familiar with him but they are quick to say he is cheap. So I stand by what I say, if he was so cheap then why haven’t I seen him used by more then 5 people at CTF? I seen more players pick El Feunte then I seen players picking Fei. In Japan he still isn’t the most used character. But yet they all say he is top 3? Why haven’t they just abused that as it would be there best chance to win?

You keep on with cross over and pressure but again I never even said anything about that. All I said was Min is picking up Fei but when he had the chance to land a 300+ dmg point combo he went for something less. That has nothing to do with “constantly doing somethig” as you stated. That is a sign of a person not familiar with the character. I didn’t go into the rest of the rnd or who had what life advantage.

So if you want to throw around more FGC terms understand I don’t care who uses who. I am not upset because new people are picking him or calling him “cheap” or “broken” I dont care it’s that simple. As for your last statement, if players wanted to pick a character who gave them a easy win In a tournament then why isn’t everyone at CTF using Fei? They should all just use Fei as by the way you make it sound along with others, that Fei should win over 90% of the time because he is so cheap.

I guess Bruce Lee was cheap???

As for Your Mago statement, come on man are you serious? He is top 3 or 5 in the world. He can use anyone and win if he truly wanted to. He picked up Fei because it fit his play style. Players pick characters that fit there playstlye more often then picking a top tier.

Mago made Fei top tier, tbh.

Thank you for making me sound stupid with my long winded post Spartan LOL. And again no disrespect to my fellow Fei players we are all tight here and I respect you all. Outside from those 3 I mentioned no one else has really placed that high with Fei in any Major tournament with Fei. Art said it best on his FB, “Mago is the only person that shows what Fei’s looks like at his full potential”

lol damn, I actually meant to agree with your last statement of that post haha. Fei long wasn’t making any waves and then Mago came along and showed us a few things that changed Fei Long for the most part.

I always thought it was funny when mago talks about playing fei vs sagat. He is always saying how boring fei is and how much fun sagat was.

Nah not like that Spartan, in other words I look and sound stupid going back and forth with a troll. You said it best in like 500 less words. Fei wasnt BIG until Mago did well at Gods Garden. What many still forget, Mago lost the first Gods Garden tournament as well as lost Canada Cup too. If Fei was so broken and cheap he should not have lost at all.

Having picked up Sagat and been concentrating on him a little bit more than Fei, I can kind of see where he’s coming from. Too many people just hold back as soon as they come up against Fei Long. Sagat doesn’t have that problem, people want to attack you and the game becomes more aggressive.

It get’s old fast waiting and waiting to get in on the slightest mistake. Plus - TU FADC Roundhouse - Ultra is just a monster.

Hey just a little tip against E.Honda,

I play a lot in tourneys and casuals against the best E.Honda in europe, Cuongster (better than Mike Ross imo), which now really well the match-up against Fei Long (I think the match-up is 7-3 in Fei’s favor).
I use to beat him convincingly but the last time we played, he find something which was really painfull for Fei’s ground game which is : Dash forward, 1000hands.

When i “discovered” this thing, i had a 5 win streaks (we paused after this 'cause we needed to eat >.>)

This is really really really cause he break your optimum distance, and hit you - on block or on hit if you tried something - for free (no risk).
So it was like 6-1 in his favor lol

BUT ! I found something which totally destroy this action. You need to concentrate on his dash forward, and when he does it, do C.MP :

If he tried to 1000hands, the c.mp will be counter hit and then, free rekkas

After this, he tried many thing that i will report there :

  • Dash forward, jump.in : he expected to hit me with j.mp during the c.mp recovery but this one is so fast that you can flame kick him

  • Dash forward, far.hp : same thing, c.mp reco is too fast. This thing works only if Honda is quite far but in that situation, there is no reason to do C.MP after seeing him Dashing

Voilà

I think it’s something you really need to know 'cause if you fight against a E.Honda who do this, you’ll see that it’s disturbing for Fei Long’s ground game, especially on this match-up.

Sorry to post this here, but this seems a more active and appropriate place to ask a couple Fei questions.

What’s with the jumping mp? Why do people always use it?

Any consistent ways, with correct predictions of course, to land his command grab?

And does fei have any good counter-hit setups?

  1. j.mp has a brilliant crossup box and is integral is some ambigious crossup setups off of throw or in the corner. If you jump towards an opponent with his back to the wall, even if you were right beside him and you pressed j.mp, you will hit on the same side and not cross up even though it looks like it will.

ALSO it has great air to ground priority and even air to air priority.

  1. Fei’s ex tenshin has 12 startup frames, so you can’t do it naked without some serious risk. In general, tenshin setups require you to program your opponent into just holding back. then, you need a setup like blocked st.lp xx extenshin. this gives your opponent like 2 frames to do something before you grab them. so high risk, high reward.

  2. blocked st.lp, cl.mp is a brilliant counterhit setup. it gives your opponent 3 frames to press a button, so even if your opponent has a 3 frame normal it’s going to trade. Counterhit cl.mp or cl.mp traded with jab has huge + on hit and is enough for you to land u1 just like that. i’ve seen mago perform a cl.mp trade ->u1 OS before, it was ridiculous. another good ch setup is cr.lk,cl.hp which gives your opponent 1 frame to press a button before you punch them in the face. just be sure to cancel the cl.hp to lp rekka or something.

4-frames to press a button  Unless you decide to give up the combo opportunity on hit for a chance at a counter-hit.

oh yeah thats what i meant. saw mago do it a few times

Please explain more about this, I really suck vs turtling Honda.
