Depends on the situation but his best AA is MKFK, Characters who have high jumps like, Chun, Bison, Honda, etc you can you far HK. Close HP is a good AA but requires great timing as you have to throw it early so it hits when it has the most priorty which in turn avoid a trade. Same goes for close MK. Crouch MK is also a good AA for crossups as Fei’s hitbox shrinks making him harder to hit.
As for the Command grab. I use it all the time but the reason many top players dont use it is due to the fact that it has a veryslow start up 14 normal 12 ex. Its best to use it as a pure surprise option from a blockstring. You go to it to often you can get mashed out or worst. So again its a pure surprise attack. Now if it was like Makoto’s CG which is 5 frames then Fei players would abuse that move to death.
Does anyone know the ends and outs of true double plinking? i have the hardest time getting the c hp or even the cr lp to combo after the hkcw and i swear sometimes i be mashing the crlp in times of need but still miss hmmm i have the hardest time teching though.
Got to training stage and practice. Landing a crlp after a hkcw gives you a 2 frame window to land it. HP is a 1 frame link and the best plink I feel is LP/HP so in the event if the HP doesn’t come out the LP will and you can still link it. Keep at it in training stage until you feel your ready
Mashing for a link is a terrible idea. For the cr.LP link, it’s just a matter of practice. P-Linking would not help here (can’t P-Link LP.) It’s a 2 frame link so it should not be too difficult to get the hang of.
From what I understand, “True” Double Plinking is doing two different plinks quickly.
Maybe, but not with Fei Long. He’s a pretty basic character. The only hard link you have to learn is the 1 frame Hp and even then it’s not game breaking to use the cr.lp/st.lp as a fall back.
Fei Long is all about spacing, whiff punishing and frame traps. You do not need to know how to plink to be good with this character what you need is time. He’s not an overnight success story like Cammy. You need to put some man hours into this guy to get rewards.
You can check me out on Youtube.com/jason24cf Im not the best but I know I am very good. In other words I hold my own against most of the best. Even betten some of the best
I’d just start soaking up Mago and Fuudo video’s on you tube. Watch which part of the screen they stand in the match, what they do on opponents wake up, what they do on their own wake up, how often they jump, which normal’s they use in a footsie battle.
Fei doesn’t drastically change tactics across the cast very much. Unless your up against someone with superior normal’s and footsie’s (which lets face it, isn’t very often - Vega, Chun maybe Bison?), you can play a basic game with him.
The best console Fei would be Ryukichikun, you can catch a ton of his replay’s on Yogaflame24 you tube channel or Shinakuma’s. He’s not as good as the other 2 and play’s a more aggressive/loose style. Still good for a comparison though and still about 16 times better than any of us… :nunchuck:
I try to avoid Ryukichikun play style. Seems to go autopilot a lot and doesnt really use all of Fei’s tools. There is a good video of Fuudo 40 man here I like to study. Fuudo and Mago are the best to look at when it comes to footsies
Knowing the distance with all your normals and controlling space with use of just normals. So if the other player walks forward to begin his attack you beat out his move with a poke. There are many definitions to it but it all comes down to use of normals and controlling the match with just pokes and not crossups, mixups, and special moves
I think this is the barrier i need to get over… is the best poke cr Strong and the best footies tool is cr Fierce? but i swear that fei anti doesnt not work for me lol but im going to keep at it …
Being in the right place and pressing the right buttons at the right time. A somewhat less cryptic explanation, footsies are about the domination of the midrange usually using normal moves and some poke-like specials like fireballs.
Finding the ranges where you are more comfortable than the opponent and keeping that range.
Punishing the opponent’s mistakes like whiffed normals (and baiting the opponent into making said mistakes).
Pressuring the opponent and finding cracks in his defense.
This is my short understanding anyway. Playing footsies is what many people consider to be the heart of Street Fighter and what the game really is (or at least should be) about. This certainly holds true for characters like Ryu, Fei and Chun Li, for example. Even some dirtier characters like Akuma and Gen have to know footsies to set up their broken setups. One reason characters like El Fuerte and Seth are reviled by people is how they basically skip footsies and just play mixups all round long. To some, this feels like being cheated out of a game.
I’ve got a few questions that could really help me out.
How much advantage do you have after Fei’s regular command grab and his EX one? I’m having problems hitting combos after it.
Is MK FK FADC HK CW hitting 3 times a character specific thing?
And uh, I could use some suggestions on some neat frame traps to try out.
Also, how do you get it so that you don’t get two rekkas coming out when you’re sure you’ve only inputted it in once. Is it some kind of negative edging thing and SF4’s own input leniency that makes two come out?
