Hard to say personally , I think you have to be that quick with Fei that sometimes CW is just automatic. We should really use it more though.
If you look at any of the quality Fei players, they very rarely use Ultra at any point. From what I’ve witnessed anyway. Only after the FK FADC CW juggle
Conditioning is probably the biggest aspect of it. Not many of us have it programmed in muscle memory to get (or go for) the 3-hitter each time. Also, for the majority of the cast you can land a 3-hit CW into an optional Ultra juggle, so that may detract from any reason to learn the naked Ultra juggle.
Are you sure its frame advanatge, cuz the wiki has ryus dp fadc at -1 and i know its the same for sagat so i think fei is at neutral frames if fk has the same blockstun as dp.I think the reason the throw wiffed is because fei long has shit grab range and maybe the fk pushed the opponent too far back.
CW is conditioned in like some have said, but if you do FK FADC into CW and then follow up with the 2 hit ultra (for most chars), it is really easy to do, especially compared to the difficulty of timing the FK FADC > Ultra.
FADC Ultra is hard and does 7-8 points more damage than FADC CW > Ultra (or some miniscule amount of damage), so it’s less used.
However, characters like Fei Long, Sakura and Gouken can’t be hit 3 times by the CW juggle, but can be hit with three hits by the FADC Ultra juggle, so it is still worth knowing the timing for it, which is exactly when the opponent reaches the peak of their launch from the FK, and is just about to start falling.
Fei’s FK has 20 Blocks stun like a lot of other DPs out there
Feis Dash is 17 and you subtract 1 from when you FADC so 16
This would make it +4 you would think but there may be uncancellable frames which I have no idea but assuming its 4 your at 0 tho who really knows.
You come across a Daigo-like Ryu online. First rule is to anti-air all jump-ins. Ryu’s jump arc is average, it’s unlikely to pass over you while standing. Ryu’s walk speed is also below-average, so it’s easier to force him where you want to go. Poke with rekkas, and if he keeps walking backward you need to tap him on the ankles with cr.MK. Even if you can’t cancel from it it forces him to sit still, as it does 80 damage and if you tap him with it twice it actually does a reasonable chunk of damage.
Focus fireballs selectively and dash in and dash out. Duck and weave. DON’T JUMP. Tick into throw, tick into Tenshin. at mid range or farther do a crouching Hard Punch and during that time buffer an EX Chicken Wing just in case he throws a fireball.
Hmm…not so sure if this is such a sound strategy against a Daigo-like Ryu.
Just wanted to add onto this but…I can almost swear but…
FK > FADC > Tenshin. That awkward pause Fei has at the end of his dash disappears. I could be wrong but…someone double check me on this.
In all honesty, I’m not trolling at all. I’m merely reflecting the other side of the spectrum. Got to keep in mind that 9/10 times, these type of Ryu’s are constantly buffering dp’s, OS’ing crouch sweep/low forward, frame trapping with crouch tech mp. You need to shut those down options down before even proceeding to randomly dashing in and out.
Nothing you stated back then had anything to do with at all though. What you’re typing now makes more sense. However those tactics are kind of universally countered by good defensive techs and late techs and all that from the cast… I was talking more specifically about Fei fighting Ryu.
For reference just use the Daigo vs. Mago videos about what to do and what not to do. Watch as Mago minimizes the amount of risk he takes in his approach, and note that he anti-airs every single Daigo jump-in.
I personally use c.mp.>c.mp or c.lp. Combos if it hits and cancels into rekka. Cl.mp into c.mp/c.mk works also. Delaying your c.lp into any other light attacks works also. None of these are more then 2 frames
Damn, I really enjoyed watching this entire match! It was down to the wire to the bitter end. Just goes to show you that a Fei player can be competitive even against Daigo! I find it amazing that whenever Mago connects with EX CW, he’s got the link to HP xx Rekka down pact pretty much EVERY time. Also, how he can just Tenshin Daigo on wakeup amazes me. This has inspired me to practice even more
i was testing out the cr.lk into cl.HP frame trap in training mode today , but i found that i could block the cr.lk then press jab instantly and this would interrupt the trap .
I don’t know i’m really confused here , i mean am i timing my cl.hp wrong or this is just not a solid trap .
