Fei Long Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

trying to get a setup for safe jumps with fei. any ideas?

Sure. Most comprise following up off of throws and jumping in with Fierce.

i got that much of it, but im trying to get the timing via a whiffed move, followed immediately by a jump. i cant seem to find the list of frame data for jump times tho.

i do know that from a foward throw we are looking at aprox 47 frames from the time we finnish throwing till your opponent is standing again.

still need to know back throw, sweep, and unteched rekka knock down. just trying to see how i can figure all that out

EDIT: jump data foundhttp://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/oct/05/stamina-stun-dash-and-jump-rankings-street-fighter-4/

38 frames, like i thought

Well, after a neutral throw, if I am not going for a x-up or whatever other fake, I usually step back slightly, then jump in with the j.Fierce just before I land. I am usually spot on, but there are some instances where I have been off and the opponent has gotten a backdash to get away…in which case, I decide whether to jab rekka, rh cw, jump in again with j.RH, or take it easy and sniff out whether they are feeling itchy. Surprisingly enough, a LOT of guys just eat the j.Fierce online (though some attempt the reversal…which gets blocked), but that is online I guess some wold say. After the j.Fierce block, I typically do something into throw/tenshin or some bait into a normal followed by jab rekka or RH cw.

I rarely see unteched rekkas. I am strongly considering stopping at my 2nd rekka and forcing a situation similar to Ken’s EX tatsu…at the same time, it depends:

-am i vs a character that has more control of the space in front of them than I do more often than not (sim, sagat, chun, ryu…)

-will my 3rd rekka send them flying into the corner

-do they have fadc potential

I haven’t actually started doing it on-purpose yet, although when I play on stick I usually accidentally stop at my 2nd rekka anyway because I hate rekkas on stick =(

*also, want to start using the cl.s.strong > sweep more after x-ups; you get the option to low jab into rekka off of the hit confirm; sweep off the hit confirm; low strong on block to fish for CH; rejump for non-cross-up (but no x-up from this range although close); charge level 2 and release; lvl 1 and release then backdash rekka; x-up blocked, stand close strong blocked, stand far short blocked (perfect for stuffing low forward and other crouch based moves on start-up from this range and off the strong adv), rekka; etc etc

I like some of the options. Still working on them though. It’s also good that cl.s.jab links into cl.s.strong

I’d like to know the veterans’ opinion on Rekka Ken mixup. I’m near 5500 GP right now and, feeling pretty confident with my Fei Long basics, recently started to play around with pressuring opponents with multiple sets of different Rekka Ken sequences and delays. It felt very unsafe at first, but as I used it more and more I found out many people just don’t know how to deal with it.

In short, I’m having some moderate success with this tactic, and am wondering if the veterans have any cautionary advice.

I just placed 3rd in a local tourny in SF4 with fei, got my ass creamed by viper and boxer…viper can run away pretty good and boxer just shuts down fei completly lol.

Stopping at the 2nd rekka isnt a good Idea, since your at least at -4 (maybe less it you space it out) with LP. which isnt a great spot to be.

I have been playing a lot of bisons lately (losing) and I can’t figure out how to punish the headstop. Any suggestions?

You really cant punish it unless they go for the skull diver follow up (in which case you either use HK or flame kick),
you can dash foward and make it whiff, giving you time to combo him.

try backdash c.lp xx rekka
or walk back a bit hk cw
or jump back hk

If your block the headstomp you can flamekick or more reliably focus attack the followup

Bison can’t really do much against opponents who jump back

also focus attack devils reverse, not the ex one though as it hits twice

A good way to test this is jumping in, and assuming you didn’t get anti-aired, just crouch low and be ready for a throw. if they just sit there, then you can have fun with rekkas into tenshin setups… I play in G1 (currently G1-D), and you’d be surprised how many advanced players (talking about G1-C and up) get caught up in that… don’t expect it to work a second time, though, although when it does work, it’s just too funny and you’re in the zone, man.

I agree with rekka spacing, that’s crucial. Since you can’t throw them out and FADC… shame, lol.

Wait, on block or while he’s in the air? If he’s airborne and you sniff it, j. neutral HK owns the shit out of it.

On block, try to see if you can at least land a HP rekka. I dunno his landing frames, maybe you can hit him while he’s in the air for just one hit.

I just dash forward, making them whiff and grab them.

It’s one of the trick I need to work on.
It’s quite hard because it depends a lot from the style of your opponent, the character is picked and tight timing.
People around me have started to punish rekka efficiently.
Throwing an other rekka when they think they can punish, is the key.

I think Fei has the ability to set up some pretty neat rekka loops. Most good players here have already been using Rekka pressure extensively in-match. The longer you have been at it, the more you become aware of your opponent’s options. It can get to the point that your Fei pressure is so strong that you can almost force dps or other reversal type moves from most players.

I think it basically revolves around using Fei’s + frame advantage to set up Jab Rekka CHs versus most normals. After that, you become aware of how many times you can loop this until you are just out of range of your low strong. At this point, a level2 might be a good idea into dash up vs most of the cast. Also, after a Jab rekka, Fei is in cross-up range during these loops. Deciding to throw in MK or RH CW and then backdashing afterwards on block with a follow-up jab rekka into try and re-loop different patterns is also an option.

I wanted to pose the idea of upping 2 more threads:

Fei’s Oki Game

Rekka Loops/Traps

I’m not saying that I want to open them, but it would be BADASS if someone wanted to take up the task.

edit: I used to just j.RH Dic’s out of headstomp attempts, but I actually look to block the initial stomp now and try to focus the 2nd and if they pseudo dive, then I believe it is punishable with a version of dash up rekka out of focus. Would be a good add to his section in the MTUP threads if someone wanted to check into it. I’ll get to it later, but I’m hopping off now for a few. Another main thing about that match-up involves knowing what you want to do after blocking a LK Scissor.

Sample Incomplete Skeleton:

[Fei’s Oki Game]

Oki is all about working advantage off of knockdown. This thread is dedicated towards discussion on ways Fei gets chances to Oki and the different set-ups and options from such available to him.

Results in Knock-down:

low roundhouse
rekkas (3rd hit)
flame kick
forward/neutral throw
back throw
super
ultra

What we wanna know:

Q. Can I x-up and/or ambiguous x-up after without having to worry about getting hit with a reversal/ultra while in the air?

Q. Can I safe jump?

Fei’s Oki Options:

  1. Mid-screen Cross-ups:

a. j.Short
b. j.Forward
c. Chickenwing (specific strength and vs crouching)

  1. Corner Cross-ups:

a. j.Short
b. j.Forward
c. j.Strong
d. Chickenwing (specific strength and vs crouching)

How does this project sound to you guys:

Mr.Flowers has peeked my interest with this Sakura Research thing he is doing. Who would like to start a Character-Thread Battle of a sort where we set up representatives of our respective character for XBL/PSN that basically challenge reps from other character threads. This can be competitive or casual.

The main goal is to spread character knowledge so that we can all improve on counter tactics and improve the meta-game.

Reps can be decided on by region, deduced skill level, tourney placing(s), popular vote, etc.

For example, take the Abel threads. We want to gather info on this match-up. We choose someone (maybe two players) to seek out a GOOD Abel in the Abel threads for a FT10 (first to 10). They come back with the results and info on how it played out. People could just volunteer to do it, but it’s up to you guys.

Just an idea

Neutral jumping middle kick

very smart idea

Yes I thought about something like that before. Found this could be very entertaining but had no clue on how to set this up.

You guys got any tips on how to do Jab into rekka? Is it a cancel or link? Trying to pick up fei long buy i cant get some of his essential links and BnB’s down
