So… Is a fair trade on the rekka distance higher damage and chip? We will be in closer, meaning the opponents, namely grapplers will have an easier time with misplaced rekka.
I mean fuck, as it stands misplaced rekkas are a welcome punish

I doubt they’ll change the damage values.I can imagine a character like Vega is going to be a complete nightmare now.
Remember a lot of characters are receiving buffs too, so nerfs across the board + other character buffs means I think we’ll have a few even matches turn bad and a few advantages turn even.
That is unless everyone has 2 Ultra’s and some mechanics are changed then it doesn’t matter. The current tier lists become irrelevant and we’ll have to start again.
Well against grapplers I hardly rekka as it is. I tend to just normal them to death. Unless it’s Thunder H[Awful]k, then you can kinda just do whatever you want lol
That being said, I really don’t want to switch to Yang I hope the Nerf stick doesn’t sting too bad for USF…no pun
I’ll not be dropping fei, but rolento will become a strong secondary I feel
Same here, not dropping him.
So what is the best combo to incorporate Feis tech knockdown - stMP, crHK? So far I
ve been able to find
stMP, HCW/EXCW, stMP, crHK
Unfortunately its not the easiest and timing has to be VERY strict…
How would you get st MP after the CW? The close MP is 5 startup and the HK/EX CW are +4 on hit. Wouldn’t they not be able to connect?
… I don’t think that works on counterhit either…
I kinda wanna go try it out.
After knockdown though, its generally not combo time unless your mix up is succesful
None of that works and sweep is “untechable”
Not sure what he’s talking about. The only way to confirm into sweep is st.jab, cl.mp , sweep but even then you don’t need the st.jab (and you need to be point blank). cl.mp gives you enough time to grab a beer, come back , then sweep someone.
i see a lot of fei’s using EX CW to get out of crossup situations. Would MK.CW make a good substitute? No meter is required at the cost of only losing 3 invisibility frames (from 13F to 10F)
Most characters can punish the MK because it doesn’t travel far enough and it’s slow. You’re better off using that against command grab/dive kick characters as a reversal. It works well against characters like Abel/Rufus etc etc
Also EX has more inv frames and projectile invincibility to escape something like Ibuki’s kunai set ups. So no not really, very limited use like that.
Fei Long has some very good escape options though. You really have to eye ball some set ups, like Adon and some other characters for example will often wait a little before crossing you up but in this time you can quick stand and dash under the cross up to safety. Also for things like burn kicks or some of Akuma’s air options, cr.mk lowers Fei’s profile making the move whiff. So if you wake up and cr.mk then immidiatly hit tech you can hit confirm into combo, throw or just escape the set up and block.
Like most things a mixture is best.
ok. i’ll keep that in mind. mk.CW should be useful against those mentioned
are there any notable meaty attack combos? fei can gain some extra frame advantage if a meaty attack hits during its last active frame, allowing him to link a followup attack that wouldn’t normally link. never considered much about this
So… sorry Foh, this has nothing to do with addressing your question.
What do yall do when you get absolutely decimated. My city has gatherings every night a few nights a week. Mostly the exposure I get to Street Fighter is online these days and the odd EVO here and there.
I was unable to make EVO this year, and the day I learned I could last year was the same day registration closed. I already had a plane ticket so I went to play money matches, which I did quite well in.
But damn… The gatherings I mentioned, despite the place, happen every night I have to go in to work, so I can’t make it very often. I ran into a Rog that wrecked my world, I have alot of issues with charge characters as it is… I do well against most other types. Maybe I was off my game, maybe just a beer past the line. . Perhaps simply out played. Goddamn… I was demoralized, though I continued to run sets, doing OK, I couldn’t shake that, and even a couple more sets against the guy and I was doing abysmal.
/gunthroat hahaha
Stay patient. Reflect on your loss and what led to you losing.
When you get decimated there’s one simple answer. You’re not blocking. This will sound cheesy but if you’re playing an aggressive style player it’s better to do the opposite and let him hang himself while remaining solid. Equally if you’re playing someone who down backs then that’s when you throw in random stuff like overhead three times in a row or raw tenshin on wake up.
Play the man. Charge characters rarely have any decent mix ups. Against charge characters I generally play heavily defensive with emphasis on moving forward, protecting the air and using normals to push them back into the corner. All except Guile, I’ll continually block and move forward (rinse repeat) til he backs himself in there by default. Remember they are trying to do the EXACT same thing to you. Fei plays quite similar to a lot of the charge characters since most of them are very heavily footsie and frame trap orientated.
Also remember the charge characters all walk fast. That’s one of Fei’s big weaknesses, always has been. So you have to do the chasing most of the time which can get demoralising. Know your options and like the Doc says stay patient.
Before you hit round one run through in your head what the character suffers from on the character select screen. Just take a minute to think - OK he’s picked Balrog…
Simple stuff I do this every match I play, whether it’s a day one player or a top player. I have a note pad that I keep and it’s got little scribbles next to each character that I just glance at from time to time. Knowing something as simple as “Does the st.jab hit this character on crouch?” can be the difference from forgetting you could have had a simple punish and going for an unnecessary one frame link. I mention that last one because I do that shit a lot on characters that are not heavily played! lol
Believe it or not Defense is the strongest option in this game. Everyone can attack, not everyone can defend.
Also one final point. Never be afraid to admit that the other guy is just a better player than you. As much information, as much as we play, as much as we all think we are good at the game, there’s always guy’s who are just that one step ahead of the pack because his reactions and execution are simply better than yours. The only thing you can do is turn that into inspiration to get better!
You never get any better when you’re winning.
I’d also like to add that knowing the matchups and knowing what Fei wins with and loses to. And also knowing the situation. Perfect example is against Ryu. I look at it as down and distance like in a football game. If it’s getting late in the game, the opponent will attempt the biggest play in their playbook to try and win the game.
So against Ryu, with 2 stocks of meter and his U1 bar is full, he’s going to at some point look to do DP, FADC, U1. Knowing he’s going to look for it, and giving him the opportunity to do it are 2 different things altogether.
I also think that there’s a “tell” that the opponent gives you that lets you know that they’re looking for something. We all have a pattern. I talked to AquaSilk, and he said his entire game is based off of pattern recognition. While he plays Zangief, the comparison to Fei is analogous.
If you’re playing a shoto, they’re going to want to 1) throw fireballs. Here you can; a) neutral jump, b) take the chip dmg, c) focus and dash fwd or back, d) EX CW (though I’d use sparingly) and e) on reaction, do Super/Ultra 1.
The 2nd thing they’ll want you to do is jump. Obviously because they’re gonna hit you with DP. I’d also jump rarely. And if I do, jump in with MP. It’s our best air move.
If you’re playing a charge character, to an extent it’s the same thing. So your defense and reactions have to be on point, as he loses to most of the charge chars except Dee Jay.
Against a grappler, well think about it, if you’re not spacing your rekkas correctly (if you use them during the match that is), you get grabbed. And we have normals that can be used to keep them out.
For the keep away characters (Sim/Rose), you’ve got to get them to the corner AND KEEP THEM THERE. Midscreen, you’ll lose.
For divekick characters, you should use U2 unless you’re confident that you’ll punish well and can use your U1.
And practicing and players that are around your level is a good barometer to seeing where you are in your development. Making those incremental steps are important in growing as a player.
Fuck in a right. I appreciate the time spent on those words. It’s shit I know, as an intermediate player, but is always good to hear
I seriously need more offline play, graveyard shift at a job I can’t leave… Hahahaha
The match notepad is a great idea
Coming from a guy who considers himself an intermediate player (myself), I get told a lot to not “beat yourself up over it [my matches]”.
I’ll be frank, losing WILL make you feel down/sad/distraught or something similar somewhere along the line. I spent a good 2-3 months wondering why I even bother to go to tournaments seeing as I get wrecked all the time.
This got even worse when grinding out the Boxer MU with a friend who has got the Rush Upper loops DOWN (LP, MP, UPPAH!!!) x 3. Makes ya feel shitty lol.
You know what helped me? Remembering the times when I made everyone else so salty that I beat them. “All you do is Rekka” hahaha I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this/gotten fan mail online. You keep at it and take your losses not as a punishment but as a learning experience. “Next time I WILL do better”
Remember, the path to greatness is neither fast nor easy. Cheers man
This is true. You’re gonna lose. You’re supposed to lose. Hell, MJ lost, and he was the GOAT. You learn more about the tendencies of your opponent. And yourself.
USF, you’re not giving yourself enough credit. I’ve watched your matches. You’re a solid player. Real solid.
You’ve gotta push through in order to achieve. I’ve been playing this game for 3 years. Year 1 I couldn’t land HK/EX CW to close fierce to save my life. My defense sucked. Year 2 I could land it occasionally, but was scared to use in a match. But my defense improved.
Now I started going to tourneys. I got a round off of Sanford in casuals. I can take games away from competitive players. I wouldn’t say I’m where some of the Fei players that I look up to, but I got confidence and the drive to continue going to see where I can take this character.
Raij1n,
We all have lives & this is a game so don’t beat yourself up when it comes to events. If you’re mainly playing online, remember that its 1) online so you literally shouldn’t take it seriously. And 2) because it’s online, the properties of the characters change. Post matches of your replays, and if you’re playing online, post your GT, and you can see how you compare to other players.
Ok so I’ve been wondering, on Ryu you crouch tech and still meaty a LK during corner pressure. If you get your timing perfect if they DP on wake up you block, if they tech you tech, and if they do nothing/press buttons you are cr LK them.
Ok now same scenario now but with 5f DP people (Cammy, Adon etc), I meaty with cl MP and tech, if my timing is perfect will I be able to block if they DP on wake up? I want cl MP cuz it’s 5F
I’m currently in LA so I don’t have a setup to use, AND I won’t be able to go to WNF either :’( but I at least want to take this time to come up with some good ideas so that when I get back I can try them out
Let me know if I wasn’t clear enough and I’ll be happy to elaborate more
