If you can react to it it is, from what I experience its timing specific so sometimes you can get HK but sometimes I find it’ll whiff. I think you can eyeball it though, and I actually got this a few days ago against a trade jump in vs Boxer, I followed up with LK CW and I supered after and got 3 hits! It’s just hard to replicate this scenario in training mode cuz of how specific the timing is to trade.
MK CW is probably the best bet since it does more damage than LK and starts up faster than HK. You can EX too but lawls to doing that unless you’re for sure going to win the round
I play Akuma, and I’m wondering what’s to stop me from mashing dp against blocked rekkas (apart from the shame). I haven’t seen many Fei’s, but based on the data, a few matches and some tests in TR, none of his rekka’s apart from EX are safe against 3 framers, and regardless of whether he continues on to the third one or stops, it looks like it’s all unsafe. The only thing I can think of is from ones that are spaced, since Akuma’s DP always drops.
Sorry, seems this would be a common question but I couldn’t find anything.
You can straight DP a second blocked rekka. It’s amazing the amount of people that don’t know this. You can also hit confirm into a combo. You can also punish a first but only if it’s really deep. Most Fei’s will hit with the tip which for the most part is unpunishable.
The problems come when Fei Long decides to delay the second rekka. If you try to punish 1 rekka with a dp Fei will block in time, If you try to punish ANY rekka on block it’s possible for Fei to delay the next rekka so it has a gap big enough to punish you’re punish attempt.
So yes DP is you’re best punish but it also leaves you open for a maximum damage combo if you get it wrong. With a character like Akuma that’s probably not really a good play.
That’s the strength of the delay rekka and why a lot of people want it nerfed. Also if you block a first rekka and Fei delay’s the second and you also block that he actually gets pushed further out than if he did just two straight on block.
With Akuma you’re better off trying to sweep the recovery of poorly spaced rekka although Fei can punish you’re sweep if blocked.
I generally don’t throw out non invincibles against it since that’s the basic Fei trap. Sounds about right though.
Light #1 is -4 on block though, isn’t that enough room for DP anyway? When it comes to improperly spaced ones, that is.
So I guess I would be worried about him getting himself out of DP range on the second rekka. Outside that it’s a guess on whether he’ll go for a third (eat a full combo on block or get 60 damage if I stick something out) or skip it (sweep if pushed out of range). Is there another scenario? Either way, thanks for the reply. I’m actually looking for a secondary to swap to, since I get bored after a while if I’m not learning anything. Considering Fei, along with Adon and Rufus. Actually wanted to try Viper or Ibuki but that’s too much work in execution.
Sadly, it’s his only crouching normal that is plus on block (+2). If you’re not landing counter hit cr mp, are you using it as a poke? Off of ch cr mp you can rekka for more dmg.
I am using it as a poke and I’m well aware of his frame data, I know I can land rekka thats why I want ch cr.mp.
I understand what a frame trap is but you don’t need to be positive on block to frame trap.
On that note just finding 2 and 3 frame gaps won’t necessarily give you a working frame trap so frame data isn’t the ultimate guide for frame traps.
More importantly thanks for not answering my question. Not trying to be a douche or unappreciative but you gave me a bunch of info I knew rather than answering my question.
Woah homie, no need to come at the brother like that. No one has to help you on here, be a bit more clear next time. Anyways, there’s no universal answer to this. You have to figure out your opponent’s tech habits or footsies rhythm in order for you to get it “consistently”. Only way that happens is if you play different types of players.
It’s not really a button that’s got specific set ups like cl.mp. I mean you can use it like that but really I just throw it out in the footsie battle. If It hits I lp rekka, if it gets blocked I might do another one.
Best way to land a CH cr.MP is after another cr.MP, imo. My cr.MPs usually come out in pairs for that reason. If the first one hits, I combo a second one. If it gets blocked, the frame advantage gives you a nice frame trap and as soon as I hit the MP for the second time, I’m already buffering a rekka in case the “counter hit” message pops out.
I do the same as Shiny. I don’t have a specific time to use it. Like Highland said, it’s literally just a button. You can press at any time, which is why I asked originally if it you’re using it to poke. It’s a footsie battle with Fei, so I press it if the opponent is more than a character length’s away.
Another normal that I press is cr LP and cr MP sometimes just to see if the opponent is pressing buttons. or cr LK. For a frame trap, I’m starting to use MK CW in the corner to keep the opponent honest. IDK if other Fei’s on here do it, but it can change the pace rather than just doing jab x rekka all day.
Anyone here have any real Hakan XP? We have a good Hakan player here in NorCal but i’ve only played him once (of course in tournament), we went to last round but I lost I know not to let him oil up so most of my pressure came from literally standing still and waiting for him to think it was ok to oil up (if you interrupt the oil it doesn’t last as long).
When the oil was off the bullying was on! When the oil was on though I was very edgy, and his friggen focus cr. lk while oiled was frustrating as I couldn’t figure how to either beat it or stay out of that situation. Any general suggestions for how to deal with this obscure character would be much appreciated, I hardly play Hakans let alone actual GOOD ones so some handy tech would be good to have in my (or our) back pockets.
