alright cool Ill try to get videos up of me playing my terrible fei haha, where should I post these videos?

You can post in the video thread for Fei. And I’m sure you’re not terrible. We’re all trying to level up, but it’s a process.

Do you guys have any visual/sound cues to get the link from stand jab to cr.jab?
I have pretty good execution when it comes to links. One frames never give me problems but the three frame from st.jab to cr.jab is frustrating.
I used to be able to do it consistently but since I don’t main him if I don’t use him for a few days my muscle memory fails me and I have to grind it out to perfection for a couple of hours.

How exactly do you guys hold your stick? I use the wine glass method, but it makes certain characters like Fei Long awkward for me to use on the left side of the screen. I usually play charge.

Start with wine glass and the try to do his combos on both sides. If you missing stuff adjust your grip. Also to really test your accuracy, go to ssf2 HDR and play fei. (the timing is strict there). gl

On standing jab, Fei is +6 so it should give you 1/10 of a second to react and crouch jab. Plenty of time to crouch. Maining Fei, you get to see his timing and you see show much you needed to get to the next part of the combo.

If you’re having problems crouching cuz you wanna go into rekkas after, I made a short video about it.

Right side I get everything done 1st time. Left side gives me problems. Never thought of using ssf2. Thanks.

When should we be using light flamekick and light and medium chicken wing? I literally never use these.

HDR and ST are excellent for fundamental gameplay.

Light flame kick, probably never, I’ll occasionally use it to build meter if me and a player are having a full screen face off. Light and medium chicken wing though are excellent at blowing up frame traps and techs. Also the invincibility they offer can avoid certain meaty specials or set ups on a KD without burning meter.

Think rufus for example - He dive kicks and puts your in 50/50’s with throws, frame traps and more dive kicks. If you block and input LK CW , if he keeps you in block stun nothing happens, if he try’s to throw you the LK CW comes out for 3 hits, if he try’s to dive kick LK CW comes out depending the scenario for either a reset or you cleanly take him out of the air. He frame traps - LK CW comes out etc etc. I think LK CW is -4 on block so it’s not a disaster on block.

Also think Bison on your wake up doing a meaty PC cross up. MK chicken wing’s invincibility will avoid it and possibly hit his recovery depending you your screen position. MK CW is a bit safer at -2 if I remember so the only characters that could do anything on block would be the grapplers.

Both have their uses against characters that leave deliberate gaps for traps or high pressure characters like Guy.

My dumbass always thinks I’m not linking it properly but I’m just not inputting the qcf. The full qcf movement is so much more important for rekkas especially when trying to get the second and third hits. 100% execution on every combo acquired.
Next what are his frame traps that I should be using? I stick with
st.lp cr.mp but there must be more.
Also what are his meaty command grab setups and other important meaties? Sorry for the barrage of questions guys I tried looking through the forums but all I could find where safe jump setups and ambiguous setups courtesy of hitenryu

I have a question. Where’s the best place to learn match ups and how to get to that next step playing higher ranked players?

I feel like I’ve been stunted and I can’t make that next plateau. I watched alot of you guys play and even had the pleasure of playing against some of you or at least talk, but the gulf between some Fei players and mine, well you could fill a football field with it.

What I mean by all this is that there’s alot of talk about tech, but not the mental part of the game. To be honest, I still feel like though playing for 3 years, I still lose to the same stuff in the same way, execution gets marginally better, only to drop stuff, and NEVER NEVER knowing tech (OS, safe jumps, frame traps) or match ups.

I’m by no means a top Fei player, I’d just say I was competent and good enough to take the odd game off the dedicated players. The thing with improving is I find it personally like golf, you can get pretty good within a couple of years but to really be the best the increments of skill are tiny. You hit a point where your only getting a little bit better each time, not even enough to notice sometimes. The work you have to put into this game does not equal the rewards unless your a tournament player IMO or extremely gifted. Most Street Fighter players increase in skill at the same slow rate and most don’t even care.

The guy that you were better than last year, your still better than now and the guy you couldn’t beat last year is probably still a bit better than you. Unless you’ve got total dedication that’s the way this game seems to go. Simply playing for 3 years is not work, it’s just playing the game.

If your saying you don’t know these things then that’s really why your not getting better. You can’t get better without knowledge, It’s as simple as that.

I used to make notes on my opponents characters until I gradually didn’t need the notes and I could make a mental note in my head on the match up screen. So say my opponent is playing Rose I’ll make a mental note of about 5 things I should or can be doing in this match before we hit the VS screen -

  1. Can be safe jumped
  2. Struggles under pressure
  3. Likes to backdash - OS rekka or cr.fierce
  4. Spirals not true block strings
  5. Poor wake up

Something like that 4 or 5 little snippets of knowledge that will help me remember whilst playing. Now do that for the whole cast and slowly your knowledge grows until it’s just automatic.

If your not questioning or experimenting what works against who before the match your not giving yourself the best chance of a victory.

Can you explain to me the part where you said to do a chicken wing while blocking? Wouldn’t you not be blocking if you input a chicken wing? Do you mean when you’re in block stun and you just do it really fast?

Yeah basically, if your in block stun you can let go of block and input what you like. Hence why scrubs can mash Dp’s all day and get a hit confirm FADC uppercut into ultra if you mess up your combo.

Basically if a character like Rufus or Guy for example is continually putting you under pressure but with untrue block strings or frame traps you can CW in the gap as opposed to mashing a dp. It’s safer if you do get baited since the negative frames on CW are harder to punish if at all.

Thanks Highland. I’m at the point where I start to take notes on characters and what they can or can’t do. My biggest problem is two things; if someone jumps at me and never controlling space. So I feel like whether someone had between playing for 2 years or 2 days, they can win.

I know what my opponent wants to do, but how I stop them is poor at best. I’ll have to retool all over to bring out the best character I can.

This taught me a lot. I am humbled. Highland with the beast info! I dont know if any of you guys on here know what I’m trying to accomplish with this game in the tournament scene (which is me trying to become the best) but do know that I take in as much info as possible from each and every one of you. Even the players who play casually, you all help me get better on a day to day basis! LOVE YOU ALL! -Zaferino
