Interesting =).
Next question: What do you guys think about for lvl 3 FA a person as a wake up move at the right distance? You know because Fei has good range. Of course I believe not do it on certain characters like guile (flash kick) or maybe balrog(i think for his headbutt). but for the ave. shoto with the SRK I believe your just at the right range to subtract a wake up option for them.
against a less skilled opponent, this is a very viable tactic, however, better opponents will know what moves will reach you. all reversal specials have armor break, so if a shoto does a tatsu on wake up, you are screwed. furthermore watch out for ultras, once you reach lvl 3, and the attack starts, you cant do anything to avoid them
i like this alot!
I have to say that another Hy CW after the a Hy CW is brilliant. :lovin:
I can’t believe I never thought of it before. The results of a Hy CW after the first gives fei some great maneuverability. Throw Hy CW, they block and throw another one which for the most part throws them off. I verify that throws are no and void and any quick attacks are out the window like a jab. Only thing I haven’t checked yet is an SRK like attack however sadly I believe you may be beaten in this category b/c it is a SRK after all. Pretty sure ultras still kick your ass though (sagat…)
Weird bonus is if they crouch you end up flying over them and far enough away to avoid counter strikes (unless your opponent is in a corner in which case your screwed unless opponent is dumb struck).
As always may not work on higher levels, but right now I give a good fight in G2 championship.
“against a less skilled opponent, this is a very viable tactic, however, better opponents will know what moves will reach you. all reversal specials have armor break…”
Reversal specials have armor break properties? really? Because like in some situations I remember ( i could be wrong) an opponent doing an FA on my wake up and in my noobish I throw a light flame kick… it hits but the dude isn’t going away. Unless I was fast enough to do Flame kick right after the reversal window =P and upon wake up.
Yeah you can armor break FA with a Reversal Rekka
I never took note of this up until last night. Armor break off a reversal flame kick. lol. Was like…“WTH?!”
Reversal Rekka is pretty good against wake up FA: it works even if the FA is backdash cancelled (in that case reversal flame kick will just whiff)
Ah, I had a Sagat player cornered really fiercely last night. I was playing dangerously by standing ridiculously close to him while cornering him. I kept reversal lp.Rekka-ing him after every single poke he would do. lol. He did a wake up FA as his final ditch and I ended up doing a reversal Flame kick only to armor break him at that point. Finishing the match.
Yea, in that case, you missed the reversal timing. Reversals aren’t just on wake up either… they count when you do them almost instantly after you’ve blocked as well.
Oh man I just found something sick with fei. Surprised no one found this earlier.
Fei has a fake cross up with his j.MP where if you time it so your j.MP hits right before you cross over, it hits them on the regular side they were blocking, THEN he just lands behind them on the ground on the other side all of a sudden. You can mix it with j.MK and when you can go for cr.LK asap. It looks hard as shit to spot.
cool. saw a fei vid earlier today at youtube (dont have link right now) of someone doing something like that.
LOL I actually mentioned this way back…It’s especially useful in the corner b/c the edge of the screen makes it super hard to judge!!!
I saw this exact same thing today. It saved my ass in a match too.
Is there any difference in priority with his flame kick when using short, forward or roundhouse?
Thanks.
seems to me short seems to get stuffed more by jump-ins. i coudl be wrong though.
Anybody ever use light kick CW at close range? Is it useful or should one just stick to cr.fp and other long pokes?
I find that it’s only useful if you see an opportunity to land it successfully, or at max range. On block, you’ll usually get SRK’d, thrown, or combo’d on reaction since 4-frames is a lot to play with.
I personally prefer MK CW; a -2 disadvantage isn’t too bad considering only a couple of attacks launch within 2 frames. Normals will be hard to time considering they cannot be buffered into like Specials/Supers, so you may not even have a disadvantage against someone who poorly times a jab or throw out of a block. On large characters (Abel, Balrog, etc.) you get a nice 2-hit cross-up at point-blank range if they duck. On smaller characters I think it’s only 1 hit (unless you move back).
Considering how bad it is on block, I stay away from it.
As for the flame kicks…I think MK beats more stuff than LK, so it just depends on their range. MK is a stronger single hit, but if you can get both hits, HK is the best option. I usually use MK in situations where I’m unsure if it’ll hit or not.
how did you manage that…? [the reversal vs his wake-up focus]
wait…focus forces blockstun if opp is holding back. nvm.
i wonder if the activation range varies per character
*reversal jab rekkas just got more potent. which means, it’s dangerous to attempt a lvl2 focus vs fei
Not sure but he never got to release his focus. Nor did I ever block his FA. Last night, I tested his FK against Ryu and found that he broke Ryu’s FA attack as well. (Heard smashing glass) and watched Ryu light up in flames. lol.
As I recall, for each time the above scenarios occurred, I was ridiculously close to the opponent. I remember during the Sagat fight, I performed a forward dash straight into a lk. FK. Sagat did a wakeup FA but was hit the second he got up so he never got past level 1 FA.
When I fought Ryu last night, he did a EX Fireball which I jumped over and dashed in towards Ryu with the intention of lk. flame kicking him anyways. I didn’t realize nor did I saw Ryu’s FA. All I heard was glass smashing. Ended up doing a lk.FK > FADC > lk.CW combo.
So I’m wondering if there’s special properties to the flame kick or is there a general rule about the FA Armor in it’s startup stages?
