Yeah the crlk nerf is unfortunate but I think he’s still going to be top ten imo. Yes it’s to early to tell but from what I’ve seen he’ll still be good for sure. Looks like the new standard combo is crlk crlp stlp crlp rekka, so pretty much the same as before instead of two lk you replace it with lp.
Also the nerf on jab rekka is bad slash good imo. Kindevu was using it 3/4 to full screen to build meter. It’s early but I actually think he got buffs that will help and could possibly make him better.
There is a great fei long player in new england (zaferino) who thinks the lp rekka nerf actually helps him in the vega match up. He said it had to do with them decreasing the rekka range but not the pushback and keeping vega in a certain range… (I wish he had explained it more than this) but he did pretty good against Zeus’ vega at a tournament a little while ago so I’ll try and get more info out of him about this next Friday.
Maybe it has something to do with when you hit the rekka at the tip making it less punishable or something? That’s interesting I’d like to hear back about what exactly he meant.
That may be, but I don’t think the advantages outnumber the disadvantages lol.
I was thinking, since Ultra 1 always hits 3 times in juggle combos, it means we can activate it much later, so do you think it will be possible to hit confirm a dp? Something like dp, focus, wait a few frames, and if you see it hits, dash forward ultra, if not, release it / backdash.
A lot of fei longs don’t use the 4 light attack into rekka now because on certain characters the last cr.lp whiffs even in ae2012.
Zaferino and CJ truth I’ve seen mostly do cr.lk cr.lk , cr.lp or cr.lk st.lp , st.lp in 2012. No need to stick a fourth light in there.
Even Mago and Fuudo rarely go for the combo with 4 lights. Just got to adapt our confirms.
Also for those that were wondering about Zaferinos’s comment about the jab rekka helping in the vega matchup it has to do with the spacing basically. He said its easier to get a tipped rekka from more ranges (hitting the second active frame making it only -3) so that vega cannot punish it. He also said it pushes back a good distance to whiff punish certain pokes from vega with st.hp.
Mago matches on the front page of event hubs. Not going to lie it depressed me to no end. Fei just doesn’t have anything in USF4. He misses os off jab if he tries to catch backdashes because jab rekka distance. He pushes to corner and can’t do anything once he gets them there besides some weak frame traps. There’s no real threat from Fei anymore. I understand nerfing cr short start up but not being able to combo into two of them sucks. He has no threat really because I feel like he’s lost his only low threat. Or mago could be hella out of practice. Correct me if I’m wrong during any of this. I’m just salty and my rant is over now
Why the hell are you OSing with jab rekka? Why not the hard one?
And no, he’s gonna be good in ultra. His damage went up, and by a great degree: cr.mp (which is by far the normal Fei hits with the most) does more damage, dp into ultra now does very good damage (for punishes and anti-airs), and he also has st.fierce -> RFC -> ultra.
His ex command grab is now 10 frames, which is a nice buff and it will probably be used in the same way as Yun. From a command grab, he has st.fierce into red focus, which leads to a full ultra, which nets you absurd damage. Also st.strong into red focus.
Sure he lost some stuff, but he’s gonna be okay. He will probably be more reliant on his command grab and cr.mp frame traps, but he seems pretty much the same character overall.
why will it change in your face pressure so much? You still have godlike cr.mp and st.mp for frame trapping… can still chain it into cr.lp , cr.lp for a block string etc. He still has cr.lp as a three frame normal.
Pro One, exactly which videos are you referring to? I see no Mago Fei matches.
Edit. Ah, I see. The Daigo/Hugo link. It doesn’t look like the worst thing with those Mago matches, but you can tell that rekka range hurt him a few times, and as far as the clk, there is a lot less of it.
Some Fei players really used that in your face pressure with clk, some don’t as much and are comfortable with a slightly further range. Mago used to walk right up on people after knock down and made them guess using that clk as his default pressure. That’s how I play him as well, very up close and personal. For Fei players that really utilized that, it’s not awesome now. I know some of the top guys voiced their disagreement with Capcom about the nerfs saying it was too much, we’ll see who sticks with him and who doesn’t. Mago appears to have moved on to Oni, curious about Fuudo. Anyway, for some players this is a big game change, others who weren’t quite as aggressive with rushdown, not as bad.
I’m one of those who prefer a slightly farther pressure with cr.mp, so I’m a bit biased. Yeah for the other type of players it will require some adjusting.
There was a TopangaTV stream some days ago, and Fuudo said that Fei is still gonna be good in Ultra. He was also experimenting with hit-confirming a dp by FADCing forward on hit and releasing on block, and it seemed very doable. You can punish Fei when he’s charging his focus, however due to the pushback of the blocked dp you can only punish him with long range moves, which means he’s probably safe if he dashes forward immediately instead.
I don’t know if he’s gonna drop him, however given how boring Fei is, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did.
Early tier list coming out from Japan. They haven’t marked a clearly defined top tier, but list who the initial strong standouts are;
Strong
Cammy, Guy, Ibuki, T. Hawk, Chun-Li, Evil Ryu, Adon, Sagat, Yun, Yang
Fairly Strong
Ryu, Akuma, Rose, C. Viper, Makoto, Sakura
Average
Other
Weak
El Fuerte, Elena
Super Weak
Hugo
Not surprised about Evil Ryu, Sagat, and Cammy. I don’t like that Cammy once again survives in the tops while other high tier characters get slapped down. If they were going to shuffle the deck and bring Fei down, Cammy should have gotten the equivalent. Anyway, I am expecting Oni to be somewhere up there too. Not surprised about Hugo either. No big mention about Fei other than a Seth player likes that Seth/Fei match up now. Also, bunch of talk of Rolento. Not surprising either, they don’t know where to put him yet but say he’s fun to play. I rocked that character in SFxT (Law/Rolento) and can’t wait to play him in USF4.
I won’t give up on Fei unless it just gets too frustrating. It’s always tough to play a character when you remember the glory they once were pre-nerf bat. That clk was a huge part of my Fei game. Still, my characters will most likely be;
Rolento/Sagat/Fei - might play around with Oni for funsies just because his combos and mix ups are so dope.
I would take that tier list with a grain of salt… No mention of Guile or Ken near the top? I don’t know if I agree with some of that. Makoto and C.Viper have WAY too much potential to not be top. Also I’ve played the ultra mod of cammy (beta build is the same as arcade release build). Shes still very good but definitely not brainless anymore. It seems like its almost like the AE yun to AE2012 yun situation. She will still be top tenish but not stun you in five seconds then win in next hit character.
I think fei is in the same boat kind of like ae yun to 2012 yun. Still a very good character but may not be top because of other characters being buffed.
