Okay I am having a ridiculous time dealing with Sagat in Ultra. I thought it was hard in 2012, but now it feels harder for me.
Anyone have any success with adapting to the matchup?

What specifically is giving you trouble. Feels same as it ever was to me
Even match at worst, at best it’s probably still in Fei’s favour. Gat got worse, I know, I play him. You play the match exactly the same.
If you space your rekka at the tip there’s nothing much different about it at all. Push him to the corner, kill him with superior footsie’s , respect him on two bars. I’d write a big match up note but the games 5 years old now, I feel like we’ve been speaking about the same shit for years.
Further uses for 3-hit Ultra:
Anti-Air with Rekka (LP) at any height, and you can juggle with Rekkashingeki. It doesn’t always have to be LP Rekka, but it’s much easier. Here are some situations where it will occur and confirm from.
*- Opponent jumping backwards in corner. Stand under the timer and EX Rekka them on the way down. Projectile hit box and better hurtbox ensure higher success rate. Juggle with Rekkashingeki.
Max range cr.MP > LP Rekka. Opponent attempts to jump after blocked cr.MP. React to airborne hit with Rekkashingeki.
Airborne pokes in neutral, such as Cody Crack Kick and Juri st.HK. Confirm airborne hit into Rekkashingeki.
Cr.LK OS LP Rekka VS characters with long duration backdashes. Confirm airborne hit on backdash with Rekkashingeki.*
basically anyone who thought fei long was unplayable this version should quit sf4
Don’t jinx it this weekend! lol
EDIT: Didn’t want to jinx Fuudo or Gackt’s chances to win evo. Oh well!
The comments on this page makes me face palm myself. I knew str8 from the start fei is still top 5. The japanese beleive his top 3 and Evo results confirm this.
It was eye opening to first watch some high level Super Turbo-Fei Long, and then watch USF4 Top 8. In ST Fei Long is not too strong, but he’s this crazy in your face character going nuts. Ultra Fei is too much of a turtler, too slow and boring. I mean, I’ve mained Fei since forever, but don’t tell me he’s always been THIS defensive! Top 8 Fei fights was really boring to watch, for the first time ever.
Super Turbo Fei = CW, JABxxREKKA, read (lol) FLAMEKICK, go nuts… repeat.
Ultra Fei = Back, forward, back, forward, st/cr.hp, cr.mp, back, forward, light rekka (confirm?), back, forward… time out win
I think I’m done with him, even though he’s STRONG. Strong, but boring. I don’t think Bruce Lee would’ve approved…
Edit:
Come to think of it, I think maybe we could blame it on DWU, but I’m not sure.
Fei Long has never really been a (sustainable) rushdown character in SF4, at least, not since Starnab / Mago started to really unlock his potential and show where he really shines.
His normals that give him good frame advantage to play with also have high pushback so his options to continue close range pressure tends to be limited. He’s not like Cammy or Sakura.
ST Fei is the kind of Long I’d love to use in SF4, because I tend to be highly aggressive in my play and I feel that work great for me. I try to make things work, but unfortunately, because of how he is, you’re kind of forced in a way to comply with his established style more often than not. I find he doesn’t really have the same kind of dynamic potential as most other characters.
Which is something that has been sort of burning me out in the last few months.
To be fair, most of us were not saying he’s not strong, we were saying he,s more linear/boring to play.
A few threads up I was saying the ultra buff was really the only thing useful and gackt, fuudo kind of proved that in the end by playing Fei almost identical to every other version. Fei matches were pretty painful to watch and that’s how he handles.
In top of that, the game as a whole now is slower paced.
CH First EX Rekka is +4. On most crouching characters and some standing, landing a CH EX Rekka from pointblank leaves you in range to confirm into cl.HP xx Rekkaken, and on some cl.HP xx Shienkyaku etc etc.
It’s safe on block (0), so the best thing for Fei in this circumstance is a just frame stand throw, as they are then forced to tech or they will be thrown.
You can confirm the CH from a number of situations common to Fei’s ground game:
**- cr.MP > EX Rekka trap (5f gap)
The best way IMO is following a blocked Lv2 FA, which is +4 and giving a 3f gap. They would be forced to do just frame stand throw to counter it, or reversal. If they 3f crouch tech or 3f jab after the block, Fei gets a trade which you can react to and land cl.HP xx whatever, or Ultra if you’re fast enough. If they 4f normal/crouch tech, or slightly delay their tech, they are CH and you can confirm into full max damage combo.
This can also be done from Lv1 RFC.
i cant believe i never knew you could AA lp rekka into ultra
this is p huge for me
