A VERY modest win streak (haha) got me over the the 1300 PP/ 4k BP plateau a couple nights ago and got a good win against a 10k BP Sakura. I got lucky when he dropped his combo in the 2nd rd; I punished him with the 4-hit cl. HP xx Rekka and got the win.
After weeks of losing 7-10 matches in a row between beating a noob every now and then (I always search for “more skilled” opponents), it feels good getting wins against guys who don’t just mash SRKs all the time.
btw, I ran into BelgianKilla in Endless a week or so ago and he promptly gave me a reality check haha. He beat me soundly using 5 different characters (none of them his main).
so im coming back to fei again. permenately this time. trying to learn a character like gen online can be depressing, and i cant play enough offline to get my matchup exp with him that way.
so i made a drop to 2100pp only winning 43% with gen and now im saying fuck it. before getting offline today i won a bunch in a row with fei, and now im back up to 2700 and looking to push past my old best of 3600
So I’m a former cammy main whos been playing fei for about a week/week and a half. Took a while to get used to not having a divekick but I feel like I’m finally hitting my stride. A 10 win streak finally got me out of the scrub level pp doldrums (by which I mean anywhere from 0-2k you have to deal with flowcharts and mashers), and I called it a day afterward at around 2050pp and 4350bp (haven’t cleared 5k yet so still on c+ scaling). Honestly though, I never feel like I’m really decent at this game, I’ve never consistently stayed above the 2k range and I feel like my reactions suck. I’ve been attributing this to dabbling in a lot of different characters and a godawful connection (yellow bar all day erryday), but I still am getting frustrated.
edit: got destroyed yesterday, made a comeback today. Tried to notice what changed, and I discovered that I like to hit buttons way too much, usually my win streaks come when I’m taking more of a bruce lee “be like water” mindset. Seems fitting right?
At 3,200PP I think, and sitting just under 9,800BP.
I wanna be on my game when I cross over into the B+ rank margin so that I don’t slump back again. In fact, while I’m on the topic of that, does anyone know if the points for winning or losing change significantly at B+ like they do at B? Or will that only change again when you get to A?
Anyway, I’ve been coming to realise that I really should search more for same or higher skilled opponents, where before hand I always said “Bah, humbug” to the idea. I’ve been having a lot of trouble getting my points up against the whole pool of players available to me, because they all play so differently within their characters firstly, but in terms of how solid their gameplay is, they vary hugely and I can’t really focus on the matchup as much sometimes due the me worrying about being hit with random crap. So after 5-7 wins, losing all of that progress to someone playing like a mentalist with like a thousand points is just too much hassle.
Playing against better players seems easier somehow though, as if they’re playing in ways that are trickier, yet more predictable; but it takes a good amount of time to find anybody on those search settings, which is kinda odd because you would think the bad players would have stopped playing by now, and that it’d be easier to find people with more points playing ranked.
Also, why does it seem that only about 5% of people use a mic? I still can’t get my head around that…
I have got your same problem (as many of us, I guess). Plus, hitting into 20k BP Balrog or Ryu mashing out like hell is not exactly putting me in the right state of mind. Also, I’ve ran into turboers and lost many matches to them, and countless Thawks that could just roll their stick like it would be a pot cig. Playing online is getting so frustrating that i’m trying to avoid it more and more.
Spartan…you will lose a shit load of point when you hit the B+ rank when you lose to people with less points than you have. I have been at B+ for a couple of months lol. Its been up and down between 10200-10599, i go up to that point then lose to some random shit to get hit for about 30bp and 100+pp and get back up again and go down again. the past two nights have been purely hell for me and Fei almost to the point of me needing to take a break from this game. I feel the better i get with this character and playing the more flaws i notice in this game and how easily people abuse bullshit online. Anyway i have dropped down to 9910 or something like that and spent most of last night trying to get back to 10k and had been going up to 9999 and back down for a couple hrs. Losing to random bullshit people with high bp and pp mashing out and doing random wakeup ultras…
Thanks for the heads up man, lol. I had a fun night of endless just before and when my buddy got off I went and played some Black Ops and jesus christ on a barbeque, it was horrid, I could play SSFIV forever now and never get pissed with it, and I’m good at CoD!
So it’s pretty much a plateau for you? Or so it sounds? Because one big thing I’ve been wondering is just how many points can someone accumulate through normal ranked play? And by someone, I mean anyone, including those who say ‘points mean nothing’ etc.
If they were all to start playing seriously trying to accumulate points, at some point, they would reach a plateau, where they would have to improve a good deal to forge ahead. Doesn’t really matter who. Wouldn’t it be fair then at that point, to say that their BP/PP figure is representitive of their skill at compared to their regional competition?
lol CoD will do that, i rented blackops and that was the end of that, takes damn near a half of clip to kill someone even when hitting them dead in the head hit detection is horrid in that game or atleast from my experience and i’m pretty decent as well.
Anyway yeah it kinda feels that way, funny thing is i hit this same plateau before i got to B+ i was stuck for the longest at 8k and couldn’t move past 8500, for the longest about 6 weeks stuck there and i played almost everyday for a couple hrs or more. Dropping way down back into 7900 then going backup to my initial point i’d get stuck at and drop again. Was very frustrating, i tried switching up my play style and play more patiently that work for a couple matches then i’d lose again cause i wasnt pushing forward enough and missing damaging opportunities. Then one day i was playing with a friend in endless and just tried beating him using as minimal special moves as possible and it worked really well. So went online with this type of play and did searches for more skilled and was able pushed into the 10k finally. Now i don’t know what it is anymore, i look back at my replays previous and how i play now and i can see clearly alot of improvement in my game but don’t know. I get caught by dumb shit alot, lose matches that i shouldn’t have lost, been fooled too many time under the impression that people with high bp and pp over 4k and 5k are decent players and get mashed out and wake up ultra from these people and left thinking “damn thats how you got all the way to A+ and 20k with that character”? So the more skilled searches are just as bad a randoms. People that i’ve came across in ranked and beaten them several times before will get a win here and there which is also frustrating.
Thing also to keep in mind though the bp and pp system is seriously flawed. Yeah its a good indication of ones skill with a particular character but i’ve beat several people before that have had way above 15k bp and 4-6k in pp and gotten shit points in return, were as i loose to them and they get just as many or more from me than i would from them. you have to factor in lag or bad connection with people as well and also stuff that “just works” online because of input delay. The feeling i get from seeing someone with high bp with a character is they are good and probably give me a challenge or beat me depending on the character, but if its a Sagat, Rufus, Bison, Cammy, Adon, Gouken, Abel, Makoto, Hakan, Dudley, and to some extent Cody, guy, and Akuma…points don’t even matter to me. lol I would say bp is way to indicating how familiar you are with a particular character and how high the bp is how skilled you are with them but to say bp is an overall judgement of skill kinda pushing it because with online, you may be good or seem skilled fighting nothing but Ryu’s but how far will skill go when you don’t know certain matchups because you don’t fight a particular character enough and the lack of matchup knowledge which can cost you a lost when its against someone you’ve never played against character-wise, and you get raped and look like a noob.
I found i have less fun playing with Fei and the game when i’m online focusing on trying to get my points up vs just play…but how can you not? its really hard to just play when your playing ranked…a loss is a loss and means yeah it was a good match but this guy who had 1000PP and 3k Bp with Balrog just raped the shit out my points.
Oh jeez guys… We’re gonna have to revitalize the Xbox critique thread. I’m going to run some weekly practice sessions when I get back. We can’t have this “I’m not having fun with Fei” nonsense in here. That’s some bullshit. Boot camp starts on the 18th.
I dont really understand why you guys are so PP conscience. That shit is a BEAST to mainatin, take almost ALL the fun out of playing online when whatever match your in your sweating balls, to not loose 100+ PP
NOW on the contrary mrtcohens, HOLY SHIT I too have only been bouncing back and forth between 13400, and 13700, havent moved an inch for bout 3 or 2 weeks now.
As a matter of fact on the third, I had my worst night EVER with a win rate of only about 40%. Coming from a combination of a bad day, poor executing skills, and other things that I have no knowledge about. Thats a win rate lower then when I first started playing god dang vanilla.
That day hurt me mentally so bad that ever since the third I actually all together stopped playing, gotta take a breather. Loosing 300 bp in one day is a big fat no no.
Yeah, I’ve seen yours vary quite a bit in your vids. I like to be above 3,000 personally, just as a goal of maintaining standards. If I go below I usually start getting antsy, and of course that’s when Blanka players seem to come out of nowhere and Blanka Ball the living shit out of you lol.
Good point about the win rates, I’ve never actually monitored that, I may start tomorrow night. Though I doubt I’m much better than 60%, if that even
I’ve been doing horrible the last few weeks…went from 4800 to 3300 LOL! It just gets so frustrating finding good players ugh…I’ve been playing really shitty b/c of it and it’s almost as if I want to lower my points just to increase my chances of finding players w/ 3000 points and above. Endless is always good but when there isn’t really anything at stake, I just get bored easily…that’s when I start to play super recklessly and spam CW like crazy lol. Now I’m starting to get my points back up and having to go through that journey is lighting up my interest once again. WATCHHHAAAAA!
I hear you boyonweed, i might need to just take a break for a couple of days, god knows i got plenty of games i still have in the shrink wrap that havent’ even opened cause of this damn game.
But man for the past two months been stuck between 10200-10599 and last night really dropped down to 9805 at the lowest, then got back up to 9999 with more skilled and some randoms giving me 1point of bp… then to fight their strangest Juri player i’ve ever played, zoned me the fuck out and kept jumping tried to punish the constant corner jump back flips to be beat clean everytime i pressed a button for st.rh to come out almost like they were OS me with an attack if i press a button, as long as i stood there she just kept flipping but soon as i press something i was getting hit. dropped me back down again. then this morning tried again played about 6 matches before work, 4 of those got me back to 9997, lost the other two right back were i started.
So yeah… bad bad week.
Question when you guys do Rank do you normally give the person you just beat a rematch if they join your room again or do you kick them and keep it moving?
I sometimes find myself being booted by people in ranked, and I’m always muttering “Stupid boosters” under my breath, but every now and then I find them in endless lobbies and play them… And they’re friggin top notch players, who don’t wanna play anyone they haven’t heard of because they likely wont have enough points to be worth playing. Is that how you feel sometimes??
I just think it’s daft when you join a lobby and someone there has rediculous points like 5,000PP and the skills to back it up and I’m just sat there like, “I need to improve”.
Edit: Cohens, aren’t all Juri players like that? You know, psychic?? Doesn’t matter how good they are, they seem to tear me apart anyway
Man, that Juri was on some other level of psychic shit and i stupidly kept trying to attack because i couldn’t believe i was getting hit from the distance i was at while they were just constantly jumping backwards in the corner. I need to change my opinion of Juri match, lol.
As for your question, I try not to play the same person twice in a row, as a rule of thumb. But I hardly create lobbies myself, so there’s rarely bootings on my part. But if there’s nobody on and the other player is good, and their points are fair, I don’t mind bending my rules. Though, one rule I refuse to break is to play the same Blanka twice in a row. Stupid green SOB.
I usually create my own room so i know i’ll have a green connection and majority of the time i won’t play the same person twice win or lose. Lately i’ve been allowing alot of rematches in ranked so was curious how the rest of you guys handled this
i usually am the one joining other peoples rooms. i join constantly if i lose. i keep playing until i figure out why i lost. most people are like you tho. if they get a win, you never get to see them again
sometimes, i’ll lose to the same guy 4-5 times in a row before i figure out his gimmick
