Blanka Users with skill = RUN!!!
Real Blanka’s don’t need jack to win.
Still, imagine a mirror match Blanka vs Blanka if this roll was only punishable by ultra.
Sorta like how Cammy matches are terrible.
I guess that’s why Blanka players are winning major tournaments all over the world!
word ^^^
no its because no one wants to win in such a brain dead manner. And if you do, then you belong playing ssf4 and vanilla. Calling that slide unsafe is also stupid because the only place it appears to be unsafe is really up close and how often are you gonna find a homo playing blanka and actually moving forward?
Don’t answer any of this I just wanted to say it. None of you will ever own up to it, but at the same time none of you are any good at street fighter.
@ Dander
seems like somebody gets raped by the beast all the time…
lern the fuckin matchup and stop trolling!
LOL
And the sig just goddamn kills me.
Balrog player here. Somebody’s angry that he can’t quite grasp the art of punishing unsafe moves. Is this guy retarded? They’re bad but know that one of the most punishable moves(in footsies and on block) is as unsafe as it is. Hard for me to believe that you’ve been around srk for 4 years and you’re still this bad at fighting games.
teehee I just can’t get used to the horrible retraction animation this game has. I spent all 4 of those years playing 3s and at an extremely high level, if I may add.
How is the slide “safe”? Explain. Let’s list a scenario:
Blanka vs Ryu: Blanka does a slide at max distance to where just the tip of the hitbox hits a blocking Ryu. Since this is safe, Ryu can do nothing about this correct? Wrong. c. hk connects and now the Ryu has a knockdown and can build from there. Ryu can also focus and hit blanka with a lvl2 with the amount of time it takes to recover.
But of course, all Blanka players just turtle and only win matches from the time running out. No such thing as an aggressive player at all…
I would figure a “pro” player like yourself would have at least researched options before spitting out such trash.
blanka is a lagg friendly char to use… :S
I would have done so, reaserched that is, if I planned on playing this game competitively but that is not the case. I don’t play half games for money. Right now I’m just playing it for the sake of competition. I figure maybe I’ll meet some worthwhile players and maybe we’ll play other games. Also, do you know how hard it is to punish that slide online? I’ll get the focus sometimes but its hard to trick a character that is full screen almost the entire time.
It irks me when people say Blanka doesn’t take skill to use. At really low level yeah, definitely. But in my case I really have to work for my wins with Blanka because everybody else just turtles against me, and it’s annoying because I’m a naturally aggressive player. And I’m not saying I’m a pro, but most of the guys I play against know how to deal with him. My wins with Ryu and Ken come much easier even though I play Blanka 4 times as much. Everytime I try random slides I get FA’d or sweep punished. I try random balls and it’s jump back hk/hp, simple pokes or even punished on hit/block. Hop shenanigans lose to jab jab jab (note as much as in vanilla though). Misjudge a jump during footsies and you eat c.hp’s. On knockdown you get safe jumped. And don’t even think of trying to reversal here because you’ll get punished with Ultra on block. Shenanigans maybe work once a match and then a smart player will just shut you down hard if you try it again.
If you’re losing hard to scrubby Blankas you really need to up your game.
You shouldnt feel guilty you dirty bastard hacking shit. Jk jk but seriously i face blankas more often than you’d think. And most suck. Ive discovered this (especially with seth and his shitty hp). Never cross blanka up online, ever. Its near impossible to get him without normal or EX electricty coming out which not only does great damage on reversal but is just mashinig a single button (which misleads people to thinking its a scrubby tactic). Honestly sometimes ive chosen blanka (and i dont know how to use him properly at all) in endless games where someone likes to crossup and ill just mash on punch and win. In reality if people are any good they just wont cross you up and punish all your moves
I wish. Too many of the characters I play against online know the spacing and move to shut down electricity on cross up.
(And no, I’m not talking about untechable knockdowns. Everyone can shutdown electricity with a decently timed jump after a knockdown, but it seems like a lot of the cast can shut down electricity crossing up any time they want with the right move.)
Edit: I’m in Japan playing people in Japan…so lag is virtually never a factor:http://www.speedtest.net/result/599281615.png
From a perspective of a fairly new player, Blanka is easily one of my most dreaded match-ups. He seems to have a bunch of tricks and mix-ups that may require not so obvious methods to counter to him that makes him really tough to fight. I’m not going to say he takes no skill, but against a low level player he’s probably one of the easiest to win with.
Blanka needs his shenanigans more than the average character. As you said, if you don’t know what to expect or how to capitalize on openings, he can seem much stronger than he is. Play as him for a bit. Learn his shenanigans and you’ll either learn that he’s great fun to play and start maining him, or you’ll do a lot better when you face him, since you’ll see some of the less obvious holes he has.
let’s see; most combos are 1-frame links, horizontal ball is unsafe on block, vertical ball is unsafe ON HIT, slide has slow start-up, no reliable anti-air apart from EX vertical… yeah, no skills needed at all
i USED to be able to win a lot of matches when sf4 came out; was at the top of the (very small) community in my area. now, after people are more experienced and know how to use their respective characters, i have a tough, tough time with matches. a good ryu always manages to beat the crap out of me.
but i don’t bitch about ryu being “cheap”. it’s a game, you should learn how to counter blanka’s moves i guess. blanka is far from broken; both ends of the spectrum.
