very nice find, im finding a DF dash is easier to do, gives you more time to input the MH since you catch them on their way down. More punishable if whiffed though >.<
I tend to stick with going with Charged M Mighty Strike. If it’s blocked, I’m on frame advantage and I drop a short on their head. If it hits, free combo.
Do the charged Mighty Strikes only have invincibility when fully charged? Or can I partly charge one and still get the benefit of armor?
Charged has armor. Normal and charged have projectile invincibility.
I think I need to re-phrase my question, I’m aware the charged versions have armor, but my question is when does the armor kick in? Lets say a fully charged Strike is level 3, and a non-charged strike is level 1, does level 2 (partially charged)have armor?
nope.
Copy that, thanks.
I didn’t even know the charged ones DID have armor, that’s awesome to know
Sometimes I see air combos ended with Mighty Strike M - Mighty Tornado and other times I see Mighty Strike L - Mighty Tornado
lol same here, that would explain why sometimes when im charging a MS i would get hit and the attacks till comes out. Always thought that i was just imagining things >.<
Been in the lab with Thor since release. Got some vids comming soon of matches and things I found out. Will be posting them next week some time.
ps: sorry that I haven’t been on much for the last couple months, life got me and lab work.
I’m with gimpy, do the charged versions have longer distance that they travel? And I tested this, but I want to be sure. Can mighty strike go through super projectiles?
No it can’t go through super projectiles would be nice if you were in range when they tried to let one go and you nailed them.
any tips on fighting wesker with thor? that guy is a nightmare to fight against, they always drive me crazy because they just keep running away then spamming the gun and eventually teleporting, its kind of frustrating how most of the weskers i face always keep their distance until they find a chance to samurai edge xx teleport, and its not like they only do this against thor but pretty much any character >.>
Wesker is a tough matchup for anyone, and certainly Thor is no exception. There are a few things you can do, though:
-
Stay in the air. Wesker’s aerial options are really limited. The only thing you really have to worry about is if he catches you with a horizontal shot while you’re jumping, since he can juggle afterward. However, there’s a very specific height where he can do this, so if you avoid that it’s not as much of a concern. His aerial gunshot also only shoots down, whereas Thor’s aerial Spark goes horizontal, meaning you can super-jump after him and easily win a ranged air battle.
-
Most people get terribly predictable with his teleports. Pay attention to the timing and predict. Usually, there are 3 factors that play into an average Wesker player’s decision to teleport: (1) a blocked or hit (not whiffed) gunshot, (2) no obvious assist or projectile on the screen that he’ll run into, (3) a distance where a single teleport will put him in range to hit. If 2 of those 3 things line up, a teleport is likely. If all 3 do, it’s almost certain. You can play against that by making sure they don’t line up often. For example, if you’re going to be in single-teleport range, make sure you’re where you can’t get shot and/or you have something for cover. If you don’t have cover handy, try to stay where the shots won’t be dangerous. Or if you do block/get hit by a gunshot, do something to deal with the expected 'port. etc. etc.

Wesker’s normals are fast, but their priority is poor, and he has no weapons that extend his hit box away from his hurt box except the gun. The only way he beats people out is by hitting when they’re not, since he can’t stuff or even trade on most counter-hits except by using his gunshot. Be patient, know the moves you have that will stuff his attacks, and block/move till you get an opening. He has kind of a dead zone where his normals don’t really reach and his gunshot isn’t safe or accurate, and his teleport will put him behind you but too far away to attack. If you can play in that zone, he has trouble getting started.
These are just examples. Wesker’s still a badass in this game. The basic advice is the same as any SF game: know your matchups.
Yes, as a Wesker player am starting to think he is #1 in this game (besides DP of course).
1 thing I will say about Wesker is don’t be scared of him or else he is going to do what he wants. I notice when i use him against a lot of players they will sort of just stand there and block and not really have any sort of offense going… which basically is just asking for Wesker to open you up… because it isn’t IF Wesker will open it up it is WHEN.
So yea my #1 strategy against other Wesker (when im not using Wesker of course) is to STAY ON THAT ASS. Don’t stand at a distance away from him blocking the entire time. Get in and stay on him and don’t let him breathe. The minute you do is when the teleport shenanigans begin. With Thor I am constantly Tri jumping j.l to try and open him up.
Make your movements erratic too… don’t let Wesker get comfortable if you are moving everywhere using air Mighty Strikes in weird ways it can really throw off Wesker’s timings.
MAKE SURE YOU KNOW AND HIT YOUR RESETS. Wesker does not have an air dash to help him escape from Thor’s air shenanigans after ending a combo in a mighty strike. He can teleport but the start up isn’t good enough to the point where if you are staying on him he can get away. You especially want to use resets on him because of his 1.1 million health… Wesker is a problem and you don’t want to give that problem any chance to DHC or raw tag out to recover red health.
Wesker is definitely a bitch to fight but I do feel players are giving him way too much respect. This isn’t even close to being an even match up but there are things you can do to dumb it down and make life easier. As ogrimtitan stated know his teleport spacings and remember that most Weskers have a habit of teleporting after a gun shot. So right when you see that pistol be ready for him to appear on the other side.
I know this is very broad info but I don’t really think there is anything character specific as far as Thor goes besides his resets being more effective due to Wesker’s limited air options.
Just the wesker tips alone I agree with 100%
If there are any character-specific “advantages” for Thor to make use of against Wesker, I’d say they’re primarily (1) air maneuverability (noted by Nissan), (2) air Mighty Strike making it impossible for Wesker to teleport in (only works while you’re actually striking, but he has nothing at all to beat it, and it can lead to a hit-confirm for you), and (3) having a horizontal air projectile.
And yes, as Nissan said, don’t fear Wesker. That’s actually one thing he and Thor have in common: both have the potential to do stupid damage in an instant, and there are very good reasons to be afraid of getting tagged by them, but both have trouble dealing with GOOD opponents who don’t let that fear affect their play.
ive been trying out cr.M to punish wesker’s teleports and its been working out quite well actually, if he’s covered by an assist you cant rly do anything but if not its more or less a guaranteed hit. But if the wesker teleported into the air and you want to do any real damage off the cr.M you’re probably gonna have to follow it up with mighty smash M, i tend to get too hasty and go straight for the launcher after the cr.M but they end up way too high to do a full air combo.
Interesting. Good pro-tip. Are you reading the teleport or doing something on-reaction?
