Fedex Fight Nights - Resurrection?

wakasashe and I have been planning (for little over an hour now) on some casual get togethers on Thursday nights. We both work for FedEx, and have available a conference room in the FedEx Kinkos on Goldenwest St. in Huntington Beach that we plan on renting out for a couple hours. We’ve worked it out where, if people are willing to bring setups, we can have at least 4 running at once. I can bring one setup myself, so all we’d really need is three others (that’d be a 360/PS3 + monitor). Bring your own sticks, of course.

Right now, the plan is to run from 9PM - 1AM Thursday night/Friday morning. Since the conference room itself isn’t free, we’re gonna have to charge a small fee, no more than $3 per person. The best part about using a conference room is that it’s well lit, climate controlled, and definitely safe. The only downside is we’d have to keep it quiet, as to not disturb other customers. The location also contains a vending machine, and is right next door to a gas station. Across the street, there’s even a Wendy’s, and (I believe) a Baja Fresh.

There’s more details we’re working on, but I don’t know what all we have set in stone as of yet. Obviously this is just an interest check before we go full force on this, so post up and let us know what you think.

Cost: None, but the donation box WILL be up, so if you can spare a buck or two, we’d appreciate it!

Please please PLEASE bring a setup if you can. We’re going for a max of four (for now), and I will be bringing my own, so we only really need three. Without those, this isn’t going to work very well. Like Robb said, there’s a vending machine outside the conference room, and drinking fountains right next to the bathrooms. There’s a Shell gas station right next door, and right across the street is a 7-11, on the opposite corner.

Unless wakasashe feels the need to add anything, I think that’s all the details for now. Any questions, you know who to ask.

The space is pretty sweet with plenty of room for setups. Just an overall great spot to kick back for some matches for any of you folks around(or even from outside of) OC.

The location’s pretty big, night time’s void of customers, and it’s over 100 sq feet of room sectioned off to ourselves. Hell, have them print your homework while you play. :stuck_out_tongue:

100sq is a 10x10 space… do you know how small that is? Anyways, im down for some cramped sf4 sessions at Fedex.

It’s not much smaller than other places i’ve played casuals at. With two people at each of the four setups, there’s still room for at least 3-4 people to stand along each wall. I doubt it’d ever get as large a crowd as shgl’s gets, so I think it’d be fine. Plus, there’s the whole rest of the Kinkos to wander around in while you’re waiting for your turn.

How big is 100 sq ft relative to shgl’s? Is it at least half?

Minus the floor space of bunkbeds, couches and fridges, the size is over half to Shgl’s.
I’d compare it to the OG Wed Fightnights pad, Dentron’s.

I used to work at this store a few years back, and have just recently visited it. Didn’t even think about doing an SF4-Fight-Night here… but I’ll be damned, it makes perfect sense. The conference room is towards the back, but is RIGHT next to the bathrooms, vending machine, and even a drinking fountain is there for free water. The store itself is open all night, so the time frame isn’t an issue at all.

Last time I was in there the room had a table in the center (seems like the perfect size for four setups) and there were a bunch of chairs already supplied right? The comfortable kind.

I like this idea a lot… just as long as the cap stays reasonable (Having like 8 people play on one setup just seems really annoying to me =/ I dislike having to wait thru 6+ matches before I get a chance to play my next match after I lose one… by the time its my turn to play again I’m no longer warmed up.):nono:

So yeah, I’m all for it: I can supply my TV/Console/Stick too. :encore:

Well, the way things are looking right now, we’re sitting at only about 5 people, you included. :razz:

I need to talk to wakasashe a bit more about it tomorrow, not sure if we’re going to try and get this up and running this week or not.

When I was in the room last Wednesday, the table was in the middle…it looked like we could put four setups (two on each end, backs of monitors facing one another). Of course, the table can be moved if that isn’t comfortable enough. The chairs themselves, well…a few were the padded kind, but the majority were just hard plastic.

I work at a Fedex Office too. I thought about this, but our store doesn’t have a conference room lol. The stores i’ve been too have pretty small conference rooms.

I’m interested in going. Don’t know how long I can stay though since I have work Friday mornings. I could bring a set up but I’d be leaving before 1am.

Tiny update: We’re probably gonna hold off on getting this going until December, to give wakasashe and I plenty of time to figure everything out.

Haven’t talked about it a whole lot since, but I since wakasashe hasn’t mentioned any changes, I imagine it’s pretty much as we first laid out. Here’s what we’ve got in a handy list.

I’m willing to bring my ps3 and SF4, but I’d like to avoid bringing a TV I can if we NEED it though. I also have BB,T6:BR, and KoFXII if anyone wants to get a station with one fo those set up.
