Combos will be generally shorter than GGs. Attacks with short start up and long ranged moves, generally, won’t net you long/high damage combos. Again this stuff is subject to change, but that’s how I’ve been tackling design on the first few characters we’ve worked on.

That’s interesting. I’ve seen other times similar character designs have been completely coincidental. So if that’s the case, are you prepared for all the annoying comparisons and worse yet, accusations (especially by anime fanboys) of copying Maka and Soul Eater’s design?

Honestly the only thing they share in common is “petite gothic girl”.
However Maka and Soul Eater share very basic character designs. Hell, petite girl holding humongous scythe is much more distinct and noticeable than petite gothic girl. More specifically they share large anime eyes, 2 pony tails, gloves, boots, dress coats that are short in the front and long in the back, and school girl uniform skirts or tennis skirts. Admittedly a lot of it are common tropes in anime but when you combine it with the “petite girl holding humongous scythe” aspect then it’s obvious that Poco looks more like Maka and Soul Eater than Zone-Tan tbh.

Pretty sure the Zone Tan comparisons are coming from their similar head/figure shape, somewhat dark color schemes, and the skull motifs/logos. That and the FGC has Zone on the brain because of her/his recent animation work with LabZero.
I didn’t even know that Zone thing existed until recently.
Poco’s inspirations are drawn from Cammy (alpha series appearance), Black Rock Shooter, and Gungrave. I was quite surprised by their similarities to Maka when someone pointed this out to me too.
As far as story goes, I’m not going to talk about that. I think it’s one of those things people like to get surprised by. We might reveal basic character plot details as we reveal more to the public though.
