Is it just me or is anyone else bothered when someone advertises their fighting game as “GG style”? Because literally every time I see that, and it’s happened more than once, the game in question doesn’t come anywhere near a GG style and instead is just typical anime chain airdash fighter.
It also has chains, but those are not the game defining attributes like they are with most other games that try to be like it. You missed my point, I’m not saying GG doesn’t have the things I listed, I’m saying they aren’t what define the game, there’s much more complexities to the game than that which make it a different experience, but every time someone tries to “copy” GG or make a game like it they take the superficial things that GG has because they mistakenly think that’s what GG is.
Thanks for showing your interest in our game.
Hi, I’m the lead programmer and game designer.
JohnGrimm, your argument would be valid given you haven’t actually played it yet…
I can assure you, when it comes to making a game that gives Guilty Gear players something to look forward to, I know what I’m doing.
Did I see character axis all the way on the back of the sprite?
Damage is too low.
Attacks lacking impact due to lack of animation really.
No sign of restands is good even in this early stage.
But I wasn’t saying anything about how your game played, I was saying I’m tired of people advertising their game as a “Guilty Gear style” game because that’s the term a lot of people have used to make their game sound more complex or technical when in reality they just made an anime game that isn’t really like Guilty Gear at all.
I’m not saying your game won’t be deep or technical or whatever else, maybe it WILL even be like Guilty Gear, I don’t know, what I do know is that a million other people have said they were going to make a Guilty Gear game and have flat out lied and I am extremely tired of hearing about how much X game is like GG.
I understand where JohnGrimm is coming from, many of those “GG clones” are not so GG outside the chains and the air dashes, but imo the label of GG clone or GG style is something that the general public uses based on the obvious similarities and their lack of knowledge on how those games works, as tataki said, i think that no game has tried to say that is a GG style game, perhaps the closest to that was BB and their whole “spiritual successor”.
