Top Cow’s 2007 Winner of “Pilot Season” is back with a new writer(Ron Marz), artist(Kenneth Rocafort) and colorist(Sunny Gho)
Velocity is a spin-off of another Top Cow series called Cyberforce. It focuses on Carin Taylor. A girl who can run Mach 7. While dealing with her own personal problems, she is out to take down an organization that were her previous captors.
I gotta say this is something I’ve really been waiting for. I liked the previous issues of Velocity but I’m glad this got a reboot. Top Cow has always been a company for amazing art but the work of Kenneth Rocafort actually shocked me with how good it is. The colors used for it really made the artwork pop out at you. Also, the story has a very nice flow to it. I can’t wait for this series to really pick up. Issues #1 & #2 are already out, so be sure to give it a read.
Well, Rocafort did that particular design. As Velocity got passed to different writers/artists(4 times or so), Carin’s costume got slight redesigns with the overall look being constant. That look is having yellow lightning bolts with a green background.
It took them three years to finally perform a c-section and pull this baby out into the world? Sounds like the parents lost interest.
Joe Casey and ChrisCross were supposed to do the ongoing after Kevin Maguire illustrated the pilot issue. Then there were some editorial changeups and fuckups and now, 3 years later, we get Ron Marz and Kenneth Rocafort? What the hell? Talk about a downgrade. I don’t think I’m a big enough Velocity fan to give this a shot. The Casey/Maguire issue was typical Casey/Maguire excellence but for some reason I assumed that the sterling creative team was the reason the comic won the votes. Silly me.
Yes, there are Velocity fans out there. lol I’ve like her since '93 in Cyberforce but nobody wants to keep her around. So Velocity always get 4 issues or so til on to the next foster parents.
I’m confident in this reboot though. If it doesn’t turn out very well in the future, I still have loads of awesome Witchblade/Darkness/Broken Trinity to catch up on.
