FAQ: Double JLF spring mod

What’s the best way to do this mod?
(Stacking the springs or intertwining the springs)

Intertwine them.

Stack them up.

Intertwining them. Stacking them causes a bit of inconsistency, as you have a small spring at one point, and a bigger one at the other. Intertwining them makes it much more consistent.

you’re probably better off stretching one by pulling on both ends. I have a friend that did that to their round 1 and it was stiff as hell

This is a “quick fix,” doesn’t last, and completely shortens the lifespan of the spring.

I’ll try both. I have mine stacking. I’ve noticed a thumping noise after it hits the micro switch. I’ll see how the intertwine set up goes.

I’ve always used the intertwining method. Essentially I over lap the first ring on each spring and begin turning one of them until they sit flush. Just a heads up, if you don’t find the results you are looking for using 2 JLF springs, (are you using a JLF stick?) you may try a JLF and an LS-33 spring, or for even more tension a JLF + LS-32. I believe each of the springs are only 99 cents at lizardlick.com but I assume you’ve probably already figured that out. Hope it works out for you.

I actually only use one spring. I don’t want to sound like I’m not contributing. I’m just saying for people that use one spring, I’m pretty different. I use one LS-33 spring because I’m disabled and my hands are very weak. It works really well for individuals who like a floaty feal. An LS-33 is VERY soft and normally using one alone would cause your neutral return to suffer unless you’re a consta-grabber. Like, always having your hand on the stick and never letting go.

What may or may not make sense to you are the sensitivity of the microswitches as well. I switch out springs not only in all my JLF’s to LS-33’s, I also switch my microswitches to Cherry’s and use Zippy springs in them. This, with an LS-33 solo spring causes a very floaty feel. Just my input since I haven’t posted in a while!

Intertwine them. Anything less would be uncivilized.

I wouldn’t think it would make much sense to stack them. Like I said I only use one spring but if I ‘were’ to use two springs, I’d think that they would eventually intertwine anyway. Stacking them would make things kind of feel unstable. I’ve only done it to experiment.
