The fact that people are even trying to argue that the criminal justice system doesn’t favor women is laughable, hell, the people that think rape victims get more flak than males are also out of control, too. All you need to say is somebody touched you up when you were young, give a brief timeframe when you know they weren’t doing anything that they can state as an alibi and you’ve basically got a 50/50 chance of them being put in jail. Get caught? Well, expect a slap on the wrist in most western countries, maybe a small fine.

The fact that she came forward on her own volition and did the right thing, yet was punished with prison time, may deter other women in the same situation from doing the right thing. She was literally the only person that could free him from prison, and she was punished for doing so. This is some very short-sighted “justice”.
This is not a very popular opinion and I don’t think it’s one you actually believe or would say if present in front of this man or this man’s family. This is all based on the presumption you also believe she didn’t ruin this guy’s life in the first place by lying, so she was guilty and deserved to go to prison, given the relatively light sentence she’s being forced to carry out, I’d say “justice” (however disproportionate and unbelievably lax it was) was served.

While it may scare other false accusers into not coming forward (tho the light as fuck sentencing shouldn’t scare them away from doing the right thing honestly) what one hopes it will change is the way law looks into these fucking cases so that innocent people wont be thrown into jail for things they didn’t do in the first fucking place, which honestly is a way better outcome in the long fucking run.

Committing perjury in a court of law is a crime, so is obstruction of justice and falsifying reports. In most states that 3 separate charges. She got off easy if you asked me.
I so Agree with you, trying to falsely accuse someone of such a heinous act is disgusting.
Because of this woman, legitimate rape victims are not going to get the attention they need. Too many false claims create the “boy-cried wolf” dilemma, now if some poor girl does get rape in the same city she going to be meet with suspect and people will think she is to blame not the victim. Something society had a hard time getting over, its like were back in the 1950s where its the womans fault for rape, all because of some false claims.
And the guy although he set free, his life is ruined, although he dissolved of the crime he still on the sex offender registry. They guy can’t go near a school, he have trouble finding jobs now and every-time he moves to a new home he legally obligated to go door to door to each of his neighbors and tell them in person he on the sex offender list and why he is on the list.

And technically, he’s probably right. If another woman lied to get someone else into prison and saw what happened in this particular case, it may deter her from coming clean.
But at the same time we can’t exactly ignore someone confessing a crime. Just because you come clean doesn’t mean you get away with it. That precedent has been set for a very long time. Now you’ll probably get a lighter sentence if you turn yourself in since most juries and judges will show some leniency due to your honesty.
And if there was no punishment for cases like this I’d even argue that it might make more people ‘cry wolf’ because they know they can just relent later on and there will be no punishment. So it might result in more people getting out of jail, but it might result in more going in as well.
