Can we please talk about FANG’s Actual worst matchup, in Dhalsim?? I can only feasibly catch limbs with cr. MK, and that’s shoddy at best depending on which one he does. we win the long-range fireball war but who cares that situation never happens or lasts vs competent players. what’s the best way to be chasing him down? so far, we always want to back-throw him to keep him as close as possible and begin coward crouch/ ST. HK pressure on his wakeup.
i haven’t played a top 5 dhalsim, but it doesn’t seem that terrible to me. once you touch him he cant do shit besides look for 3frame jab.
Which is actually 4 frames on the part that hits grounded. On dhalsim you basically shouldn’t throw projectiles beyond the vskill then you need to just try and play safe and compact, get him poisoned and then just run the train. He really isn’t great at getting unpoisoned. Thats the basics of this matchup there is obviously a lo tmore against good players.
More I play it more I think Karin will end up a good matchup for Fang.
I actually am having a really hard time against CAMMY. It’s most likely because I dont play against enough CAMMYS.
TO START:
When is to good to stop blocking? Whats unsafe for her
If you block s.mk, c.mk or any heavy button you have the chance to take the turn back due to them being neutral or worse. I think the aforementioned are all negative afaik. Every other normal is plus though.
Most of her specials are unsafe, she can be interrupted during her vskill and jab is pretty easy for handling divekicks.
I get the most points from Cammy players on the account that most of them are braindead and all I have to do is wait for a mistake. Same thing for Bison players.
So true.
I’ve been struggling most vs. Mika/Laura. I don’t think these matchups are bad for FANG (may even be favorable for him), but I just totally crack when either of these characters gets in my face. One knockdown and I basically find myself saying GG. It’s mainly a mentality issue I think but let me know if any of you have tips for these MU’s.
I just EXSlide away from my problems. His V-Reversal is the worst in the game considering you can just grab him right after.
Well…same with ex slide.
As long as I keep Mika at neutral and my back nowhere near the corner I don’t cry myself asleep at night.
Usually we choke because we are scared of the throw. It takes a good keen eye and senses to spot the throw attempt. Playing enough matches and you get a feeling for it. But patience has its reward. A throw hurts but its best to take a throw than risk a counter hit on you, which is what they are fishing for. I know I sound cliche but staying out of the corner is the best answer. Also going on the on the offense between your defensive set ups is a good way to show them your not afraid to put the pressure on them. Just have a plan of action when you do.
Mika is a pain, first thing I do is stuff those drop kicks to let them know its not happening. Then I just start building my wall of poisons and just keep them frustrated. Even if it takes 99 seconds (Or 2 minutes). As a FANG player, there is no reason to play fair with a grappler characters. That is my motto.
PRIMA guide made a good point to block high like 80% of the time for mika…definitely helps
Cr.MK ->Cr LP will stop all your problems, even Coward Crouch Kicks to Cr Lp, keep charge during it
IMO Fang crushes Dhalsim, Just keep him out, Fullscreen you can throw out St Hp to CC any pokes, Follow with the Throw Tech you can confirm on hit, or be safe. No reason to get chase Dhalsim really. He cant freely teleport, and if you don’t know his set ups then you’re definitely going to east a teleport mixup. Just play patiently dont focus to hard on getting Fullscreen counter hits, Lay some Poison, throw some poison and punish him when he gets frustrated.
Updated matchup ratings:
Birdie 5-5
Cammy 4-6
Chun 4-6: I’m starting to get more of a grip on how to handle instant air legs. I’d been trying to jab them or block and vreversal, but cr mk and cr hp work better.
Dhalsim 4-6
Karin 4-6
Ken 5-5
Laura 4-6 (down from 5-5): I underestimated how strong a reaction her ex elbow can be. It punishes any mine, upball, vskill, st hk, & so on on reaction from half screen, and that really limits Fang’s options. Her pressure is also really good against Fang considering his escapes don’t work against grabs.
M.Bison 4-6
Nash 4-6
Necalli 4-6
R.Mika 5-5
Rashid 4-6
Ryu 5-5
Vega 5-5
Zangief 5-5 (up from 4-6): I feel a bit more secure with better placement of st mp & down-toward+hp in the midrange now, but I still feel that it can go downhill fast at any time.
anyone have advice on the charlie match up
Whats the problem? I could give advice but kind of need a starting point. All I fight are Nash but I feel confident in the match up. I have a few tricks to counter his shenanigans.
well, i can never get in. nash players just throw out sonic booms and it’s hard to deal with that. i could slide under and get in but that isn’t very effective.
i also can’t do the drop down move, whatever it’s called, and charge poison balls because his sonic booms are slow, it’s easier with hadoukens.
also, once the pressure kicks in i can’t press a button, i’ve even try to mp out of it but i get stuffed and or thrown.
i lose every charlie match lool, along with laura and necalli for the same reasons.
If you can predict a boom and you’re in the right distance, you should be able to dpdash get in for the punish, it’s just a matter of prediction.
You can slap him out of moonsault’s on reaction with multiple normals (st.mk works I think, check training mode), and you can also
coward’s crouch kick him when he’s trying to harass you with command normals on reaction/prediction.
Up-close, I hope you have meter for ex dash or you have good understand on how to deal with someone upclose. If he crosses you up very deeply just dash out. He’s almost as free as FANG on knockdown, no 4f normal or a real reversal, so you can screw him up however you like.
The real shit in the matchup is that his trigger/super screw over your gameplan and you’re forced to play extremely unpredictably.
Additionally, I think FANG’s hardest matchup is Ryu honestly. He hits like a goddamn truck, he can outzone you, and Ryu scoring a knockdown on FANG is 1000x more scary for FANG than Ryu getting knocked down by FANG because of his defensive options (dp, 3f jab, etc). Ryu does not really have to respect FANG at any time except for 1. midrange (just block, or buffer dp for a dash punish off of a special cancelled cr.mk/st.mp/etc) and 2. there’s a ball in currently in the air.
There’s a rhythm to keeping up or outclassing his zoning. Using crouch or slide to keep his fireball on screen helps switch up the tempo to your up balls if you’re not at the edge of the screen. Lk trap can cancel out ex fireball as can lunge I believe. Using vskill at mid to long range helps bait certain reactions you normally wouldn’t be able to deal with with other specials recovery. When you get the right tempo FP up ball xx ex slide confirms for easy dmg.
So we can poison Sim at nearly any time/force him to teleport with v skill, if we have trap up half his limbs can’t touch us without getting poisoned/hit, any fireball can get him dash’d and punish’d, and his low health means poison is actually kinda great…and his lack of defense options are also great for us and our pressure game.
Maybe Sim isn’t that bad? We can control him a lot of ways I don’t think anybody in this game can.
