Not sure what I think about these changes. The two biggest things that will help him are the +3 lights/cr.MK allowing him to tick throw and the universal changes that benefit FANG in general. V-Reversal and VT are nice as well. Other than that though, he is pretty much the same character with slowed down normals and a few better CH links now (although all his combo starters remain the same, requiring counterhit except st.HK which is still +1 on block it seems). st.LP CH->st.HP is a really nice link but it is also a 5f gap. Meh, I really have no idea how all of this will play out XD. I really wonder if st.LP combos into either LP or EX lunge, since I haven’t heard anything about a frame data adjustment on that special’s startup. Probably not though, as someone probably tested that already upon realizing st.LP is +3 oB
So… they just want us to never use it again huh? Only gonna use the coward crouch kick then.
I saw on twitter that the second poison trap (if done without hitting the opponent, just placing one and then another Infront of you) will actually drain some meter. Not ex trap just a regular one. Can anyone confirm this?
Yeah, Dieminion tweeted it out but I think it’s universal for fireballs now?
How is everyone doing with the changes. I guess I have to get used to it. So far Im bleeding points and I wasnt high to begin with. VS any character with decent buttons it seems 10x harder now. Im forced to block more (which you had to alot with FANG anyways) … Anyways… Im not looking for rants just overall observations. Hes still good (in the sense that all the characters in this game are good)
I am really liking him, overall. Except for our 7 frame cr.MP and our st.HK being two frames slower (Both changes I can understand why they did it), everything else seems great for FANG. I’m still trying to break old habits, but there’s so many changes I really love, like our MK Cloud lasting longer, V-Reversal changes, the new LP to HP combos, etc.
Once I get used to everything, I think FANG will definitely feel stronger to me than he did in Season one.
FANG will do better (unless new characters give him a busted matchup) imo. Kinda like Alex while they toned down some of his strongest (abusive) stuff they gave him some nice QoL and extra stuff to mess around with. The balance changes in general for the rest of the cast and game will also benefit him.
I don’t know, the v-reversal buff is the only good buff he got. Meaty st.lp into st.hp is good but inconsistent and his v-trigger buff is whatever right now. He got a few new setups but overall he’s just a weaker version of season 1 in my opinion. It’s hard to stay optimistic when you see Xian and Dieminion looking to drop him. I’m still going to main him and see what I can do.
Yea, I’m not a fan the crMP and HK changes. I personally think for what they’re used for they were okay as they were. For HK, a14f start up move that only gives you +1 on block is stingy IMO as any character with a 3f normal can challenge you. I also considered his crMP his mid range/speed medium attack, at 7f it’s the same speed as his stMP.
Yea, I think you’re right though, he will be stronger than season 1. Everyone is writing him off already but I think some of the system changes generally help this character and his style.
Think I’m done trying with him until he gets more changes. Glad people still think he has potential, but I don’t see it anymore and I don’t like the direction they want to take him in…
I had this problem with DeeJay in 4 were he remained in patch limbo getting pointless changes and compensation nerfs. I really believe that to be the case here. I can’t wrap my head around nerfing his buttons that weren’t even part of his block strings and making those that were increasingly weaker. If the 1f added to moves was entirely universal maybe, but a lot of character came out better than before in that regard.
Outside of v-reversal being better I can’t be optimistic about him. So I hope people can make him still work, but damn if his changes haven’t bummed me out about SF5 in the long term.
The hardest part to deal with is everyone else got better, fighting Balrog and Cammy was hard S1 but now it’s rediculous

According to Xian, Balrog is FANG’s only good matchup, the rest are in the other fighter’s favour, or approximately equal.
His new V-Trigger is useless, his V-Trigger still makes his V-Skill useless while it’s active (as do most of his special moves to be honest), poison is still a joke that nobody worries about, and all his attacks got nerfed for no apparent reason whatsoever.
I swear, Sagat himself was in charge of FANG balances.
Yeah wish they would of gave him some more stuff i really do enjoy fang maybe Season 3
@Rhyllis
With season 2 are you finding sometimes your specials aren’t coming out mid string?
I ask because I watched a couple of your vids and I noticed sometimes you would do a string and not finish with a special. One time you did jump HP, stHP, nothing.
If so, this happens to me too. At first I thought it was the slow down of moves throwing my timing off but I miss jumping HP, stHP, special too. However technically this hasn’t changed from season one, so I don’t know why I would miss it.
I’m actually starting to wonder if it’s a bug or if they have made changes to the system to make timing more strict because I miss them a lot more than I would expect.
Has anyone else felt this too?

The latter. Instead of 12 frames you now have 6 iirc.
Anyway after playing him for a bit, fang is indeed better in season 2 which is not really an accomplishment tbh,but still low tier. Seems He is way harder to optimize now too

Laggu1926 already answered, but it’s the fact they cut the window to charge cancel in half from 12 frames to 6. It’s still causing me to drop combos even now (cry), taking a lot of work to try and adjust to it after almost a year!
St.HP you have to cancel a bit later than his other normals, so it’s the only one I have to intentionally delay for. Everything else feels the same as it did in Season 1 more or less.
Oh wow, I never read this system change!
So this is technically a nerf to all charge characters then I guess…seems harsh. I wonder why they felt it was needed?
I would just say it means you need to ‘get gud’ on your combos but for me I feel I notice this more online when the game is laggy. There’s been some rounds in lag questionable matches where I’ve missed Ryobenda 3-4 times in a row and I’m thinking WTF is going on!?
It’s probably a mix if I’ve been used to a 12f window but I definitely think I experience variation on success based on the state of the connection.
I threw together a video primer of the currently known situations/ setups that let Fang hit his new combo, if anyone is interested.

Great video, does all these situations shown require the same timing such the combo after the Senpukuga? because that is the most consistent situation for me to land the combo successfully
