I played Art for a bit last Saturday offline. I think you need patience in the Sim matchup, but a different kind from normal where you’re happy to be full screen throwing fireballs and setting traps constantly because of teleport. You can punish reckless teleports easily enough of course, just be aware when you commit. I’m not sure how to call it, felt even (Art beat me the whole time though, he’s a way better player than me lol)
The matchups that feel the worst to me by far are Necalli and Claw. Laura and Mika can be rough, I feel you can make them take more risks to approach. Necalli definitely needs to be played differently, he can keep approaching and stay on you, the risk reward is highly in his favor.
FANG imo LOOKS strongest as a rushdown character. Poison/White damage is good combination of pressure. His mixup potential with Poison bombs is a real threat, instant overhead and ambiguous crossups… Corner pressure looks to be the best among the cast imo. Yeah, zoning and footsies is fine tool while in between rushdown but purely zoning and running is a good way to get bonked as you move yourself closer to the corner.
Combine this with what i seen with Alioune, Wong have been doing and all the concept tech videos. I see FANG as a top tier contender.
Yeah I think a mix of aliounes rush down game combines with some zoning would be the way to play him. He can get in full screen pretty fast. Very interested to see how this guy develops
It will probably be beneficial for F.A.N.G players in the long run to memorize how fast an opponent can mash out of stun, despite his low damage output on comboes F.A.N.G seems to have some of the best stun output in the entire cast due to how many heavy normals he can use in comboes. This way F.A.N.G can wait a tiny bit longer to let the poison do a little bit of extra damage before they punish the opponent. It probably won’t add too much damage but it’s a little bit extra and it won’t be scaled in the combo.
F.A.N.G seems to deal with white health better than most of the cast, on offence he has a lot of multi hitting normals can deal a lot of white damage on block, and he can eat it up with poison
His V-Trigger doesn’t seem that great right now in terms of it’s primary functionality (the poison area) but on the plus side since it’s only two bars he gets pretty easy access for it in confirms/extensions (which it is very useful for), also his V-Reversal is one of his few wakeup/reversal options.
Apologies if this isn’t super useful/interesting I’m not used to playing zoners/low damage characters in fighting games.
It seems like will find himself in a situation where his opponent has a pixel of life left A LOT. What are some of the best strategies for take that last sliver?
His s.lk seems excellent for this. Same with his instant overhead j.mk. What else though?
I must say i love playing F.A.N.G. I hope to be able to find some frame traps that i can use. I can also say i’m content with using chun/fang/karin and possibly cammy
However, testing out his v-trigger myself, it’s as bad as I speculated from footage. Leaving it on full duration, the damage is equivalent, though a tad bit less to a standing fierce, standing short.
As I said before, this is the base case scenario with the full use of your v-trigger. Since v-trigger doesn’t stack with poison, and the range is less than all your normals, it’s more likely on average you’re just adding that standing short to your game. Obviously it can be used as a combo extender, or for possible set-ups to get out of recovery; this of course is nearly universal for the cast, so Fangs v-trigger doesn’t add anything useful or interesting on it’s own.
I think it’s safe to say, he has the worst v-trigger in the game. I don’t think everyone’s v-trigger needs to be balanced, but the whole cast should at least get something fun or useful.
his v-trigger can be used as a combo extender to cancel normal moves and charge buffering in some situations. there are some videos that showcase those situations, but I do agree his V-reversal is pretty good
