I mean technically speaking you could. If you rush him down from the very start without you getting hit by a v-skill, v-trigger, poison bomb, etc. Then you could get one. Otherwise as soon as that V-skill goes through you, then it’s not possible.
They can just activate v-trigger and boom there goes your perfect because as long as you are close to him you will be taking damage, even on the offensive.
But we don’t know if his V-trigger has startup or not. Like Rashid for example, he can’t just activate it all willy nilly because of the startup. He can be hit out of it. I’m sure that a perfect is still possible on this character, it will just be extremely difficult.
Can’t wait to get my hands on this guy, unless he ends up being garbage or something I’m probably gonna main him. I loved abel’s roll and giving it to a zoner seems like a neat idea. Hes pretty much Waluigi + Faust + Evil Kung-Fu man and I love all of those things.
Yeah, because if not, VT is a glorified combo extender, considering that all his specials inflict already poison, so a FANG on the offensive will not even get the benefit of poisoning with VT.
The V-Trigger poison is only going to be relevant for the hits before the first special move he uses, which would have poisoned the opponent without V-Trigger. So, tops, 2-3 seconds of extra poison and a combo extender. And if they were already poisoned before, just a combo extender.
Factor in to that when FANG is done his pressure or whatever the opponent will still be taking posion until the V-gauge is empty. Unless they back off.
I understand the caution, honestly. The game has a fairly clear focus on earning your damage and rewarding solid defense and decision making. When you have damage that continues to apply in full through blocking (which itself will accumulate on top of chip or grey health) it’s kind of a swerve in that dynamic. They have to be careful to ensure that F.A.N.G still has to earn most of his damage and isn’t eating too much off poison that can be applied through an unblockable V-Skill or V-Trigger radius. I think the bigger value is the pressure on the opponent to approach, which is valuable for a character that has a directive to keep the opponent under control.
With someone like Dhalsim, if he loses the life lead he can’t necessarily rely on his zoning; he then may have to approach when he gets into a risk of losing to time out. I think this is going to be much harder to gauge accurately against F.A.N.G where you can never really feel that safe in the idea he has to come to you because you’re ahead. He can make it extremely hard to avoid getting poisoned and can bleed you out from the other side of the screen slowly. On the flip side the pressure will be even greater to risk something in your approach if he does have a life lead and is still bleeding you out; it’ll feel like you are losing the round earlier if you are behind even a little in actual life but your life bar is purple and continuing to tick down. It’ll also make any kind of pressure F.A.N.G does mount feel even more imperative to hit a button and get out of to get the poison ticking behind the blockstring off you.
I think at first you’re definitely going to play matches where it feels like poison doesn’t matter. You’re not going to control space correctly while learning match-ups, they will get in, and you will lose in a way that looks exactly like how you would have lost without it. But that is kind of the point, where it is going to only show itself when you are earning your damage and controlling the spacing. Everyone is going to be wanting to get in anyway, it’s when they fail that poison is going to more clearly influence the match.
