Yup, because most SF players are basic as hell and will flock to the edgy/cool characters or the big boobed fuccboi bait characters. They can’t appreciate something as awesome as Rufus messiah kicking people in the face and fighting with sweet ass kung fu moves because he’s fat. It’s sad honestly.
I just now noticed something obvious about FANG. A lot of his attacks seem to be two hitters, and I think that’s again, part of his obsession with the number 2.
I guess I’ve gotten desensitized to Rufus over the years given the number of people I see IRL who share his build. I mean usually those people are riding around in scooters and not doing kung-fu but it doesn’t make them any easier on the eyes.
Who don’t like a cast full of extreme stylized designs, Capcom proportions or joke chars in SF can go play Queen of Metrosexuals (aka “King of Fighters” in the west)
Again Nec and Fang stay loyal to SF, Shid and Laura are marketing products.
By Capcom own admission, R and L got designed to get positive reception in specific regional areas of marketing interest for them.
Basically the chara designer was’nt free to do what he wanted, but got some slimy marketing team tell him how to do his job, because the mission was’nt create a SF chara design but a selling product in these 2 areas.
Positive side Rashid moveset design is fun and at some point we will see dat Laura’s everything in almost non-existent brazil carnival alt
Honestly i suggest to never speak about design if you don’t understand design, more specifically design of groups/cast
Rufus got a fuckton of design key points/inspiration/concept behind that chara design, moveset and animation
Was perfect legit as SF style concept, even if 2015 (2009) peoples may dislike it
Meanwhile an highschool kid with no design skill/experience can probably design a badass generic tough 20something guy/30something dude, and dat shit will get instant 99999 fans claiming that now that’s coool.
Shit is sad
Yo sit your ass down and step back. Rufus’ design isn’t just some fat guy, he’s wearing a classic kung fu movie jumpsuit, the only thing you see is “fat character” because your mind is narrow.
He is way more personality than most of the characters in the cast. Ya he’s confident, but he’s also a biking legend that loves his girlfriend and talks like nobody’s business. Dude has the greatest and longest win quotes in the entire series, basically telling you little bits about his life and his story. The most your getting out of your fave is probably some lame fucking platitude about nothing.
His story doesn’t need to be complicated, he’s just a fighter like anyone else who wants to be the best in the world. Ken stands in the way of that, so of course he wants to take him down. Having a big ego and being goal oriented doesn’t stop the story from being fun. In SFxT, Rufus wins the NA martial arts tournament but has his thunder stolen by the Pandora’s box. Even if it’s about his ego in the end, that doesn’t mean it isn’t awesome he beat the best fighters in NA to get to where he is.
His moveset isn’t random at all. It’s snake kung-fu mixed with his own personal style. It’s what would happen if every movie buff obsessed with Kung Fu movies actually went out and learned the art and became a master. Your lame dismissive description of it is could apply to any character. Rufus’ moveset is awesome, and he’s a ton of fun to watch and play.
His pose isn’t fake movie shit, it’s snake kung-fu. Read his win quotes guy, the man traveled all across China on his bike with his girlfriend to learn from kung fu masters throughout the land. He uses his weight and shape and combines it with legitimate knowledge of martial arts to create his own style of kung fu. I don’t give a shit what you say, that is awesome.
Oh, and screw off for comparing him to Dan. Dan is a dumb ass and a weakling, at least Rufus is a skilled fighter. Dan is actually bad at it and is designed that way in every game he’s in.
I hope Rufus comes back so I can use him and F.A.N.G to beat chumps like you to the ground online.
I liked Rufus. At the very least, he had a unique appearance and an interesting personality (I love his long winded quotes). But he just didn’t appeal to enough people. Justin and Ricky couldn’t help make him “cool”. I don’t know how accurate eventhubs is, but they have him ranked dead last in popularity.
F.A.N.G. is certainly unique looking. He’s not my flavor, but I’m glad he’s in the game.
Wonder if all of the poison attacks are unblockable or just the V-Skill’s slower projectile. Seems really powerful either way. I’ve been maining Bison for so long maybe it is time for a change, F.A.N.G is the first newcomer between both IV and V that I’ve found really interesting looking. Shame he probably won’t be playable in the upcoming beta test, but maybe they’ll get some more gameplay footage of him out there soon.
In the video it looks like he does some kind of standing dodge at 0:47 against Ken’s DP canceled into what I assume is his s.HP since it appears to Crush Counter. Wonder what the deal with that is, maybe some kind of Yoga Tower-esque move?
Playstyle is by far my first consideration when chosing who to play, but I draw the line at characters that where deliberately designed to be vulgar and ugly. Rufus and Birdie can have all the personality they want, I’m not going to spend countless hours looking at them if I don’t have to. Rufus’ only saving grace was his hilarious intro when paired with Gief in SFxT, but I played that game for all of two weeks.
As for FANG, I don’t mind his design and I’m intrigued so far, but need to see some real gameplay to see what his mobility and normals look like.
I think the character Fang is finally growing on me.
Even more so with the story of Fang replacing Sagat in Shadowloo…
Yea… Street fighter lore!!! yea not really, but I’m still curious though
I really wanna see real gameplay action with ALex and Urien when the time comes.
PLease Capcom… Don’t disappoint me with ALex and Urien.
I know other people are happy with Juri, Ibuki, Guile and Balrog, but I wanna see Alex and Urien return to the main stage.
Rufus was mainly another take on the “dive kick” archetype codified by Yun and Yang. He’s more focused on his dive kick than even Yun, being able to dive kick off of a back jump. Rufus is a character who lives off of his normals and command normals, whereas the twins use their specials more for movement and frame advantage.
Samo Hung is the only acceptable fat kung fu guy. Fuck Rufus, if his move set wasn’t so go good no one would use him. Good troll attempt by Capcom lol.
Dan is cool and goofy. That is a well done character. I will take Fang over Rufus though. Ugly fat people are the worst lol.
Alright, lets move on to discussing the character that this thread is about again lol.
Wait a second, based on the description, could there be a variation of this attack that dumps poison downwards as it moves? If so, I’d imagine that this might have an air activation. Imagine jumping in on an opponent, and just as they’re about to use their AA, you blast them with this super for massive poison damage.
From that extended trailer it looks like his normals are incredibly slow. Assuming you’ll kind of want to play him like Faust, while he has Hazama V Trigger and Arakune V Skill. Xian is taking a liking to him, thinks he looks like a stance character. Would make sense if he’s charge as some have speculated. I figure that V Skill is going to be tweaked quite a bit from now until release as they’ve never done a DOT character before (or that I know of).
