Experience from my First Major

I went to ECT, East Coast Throwdown during the weekend and had lots of fun. Fought Sherry, the Hakan who made top eight, Volcanic akuma multiple times, lil evil and someone from top sixteen. They were very different than the BS I find online. I really felt like this is the level I always wanted to play at. I lost multiple times but I learned there’s a whole new barrier to what Street Fighter can be.

I really wish to elevate my gaming but there’s no local scene around me where I’m willing to drive to. I have to pass a toll or take a long bus drive to the city for NLBC. I only have online but after ECT, I feel spoiled and know it’s not the place to be. Well, ranked for that matter. Got any tips or hints for my situation? Also struggling to get frame traps and option selects right

Which player were you? (I’m not questioning whether we played or not, just want to at least try to remember you next time we meet.)

Online is a bit of a crapshoot, ranked or endless. It can teach you about what to do in situations, but really does nothing for your execution.

How much is the toll? And how long is the bus ride, time-wise?

I don’t think I’ll be heading outward to any other major cause I’m a grounded, broke college student, haha. But yeah, I remember you, we were fighting at the suite, the one using cody, ryu and Makoto in the long sets. Kept blowing up crouch tech combined with OS 2nd ultra. Good job at getting top sixteen though, you really went to work and showed me what high level play was!

Toll would probably be around three or four dollars followed by needing to find parking and meter. As for the bus rides, it’ll take about an hour to get into NY, followed by the ten dollar cost back and forth, then NLBC entry prices on top of the costs for a small event happening a week, it’s not economically sound.

Thanks. Wish I could showed better stuff in top 16. I only asked about the bus because Zaferino, one of our best players, takes a 4 hour bus ride almost every week (been going for about 2 months), so I would have used that to encourage you to go.

But if it’s a monetary problem, then I understand that.

I definitely understand the college problem, since I’m in college myself. Just make sure you pay attention to what you’re majoring in, so you have a clear path after college.

Zaferino? I should pay more attention to the local area in the east coast place. But jesus, four hours? That’s outrageous.

I do have a plan after college and what I’m majoring in but at this very present, I’m in a bit of an issue for now. I’m fine but still, if I had the time and money, I’d go to NLBC every week and chance I’d get.
