If I take my time, I could do 10 Dragons on the left side…But on the right I’m having trouble doing the motion
It depends on the game. When I played MVC2 I was into using Rogue/Sent/Tron or BH/Doom/Sent or something. I experimented with a bunch of characters in the mid to top tiers.
In 3s, I wanted to really branch out so I tried everybody except for Oro, Elena, Necro, and Ibuki. (Take too much damage, little comeback potential, not my style.) DPs are incredibly simple in 3s though, so that doesn’t really count.
ST: I play everybody because I’ve been playing forever. I have the most trouble though with non charge characters, and I have to rely on other things to win with Ken, Ryu, Cammy etc. That’s why I main Bison and Honda, besides that… I’m trying to pick up OG Ken because I think he’s one of the best guys in the game. And I want to be able to do a shoryu in ST, lol.
wiggle the joystick really hard in one direction while mashing punch. Thats how I do strider’s teleport :wgrin:
I used to do foward and a fireball, but when I learned S/D I learned to DP the right way, zig zag way.
I think it’s been mentioned, but 3S has some crazy lenient motions. For DPs, you can do :df::d::df: thus never needing to stand up. Does anyone make use of this?
The DP method of doing “forward, then fireball motion” can be very problematic in current Guilty Gear games (Slash and Accent Core) for certain characters like Ky or Sol. If you overshoot the DP motion, you will get a fireball instead.
For example, if you do Sol’s command throw by doing forward, then fireball motion + K, you will do a Bandit Revolver/Bringer instead of a command throw.
For Ky, if you do his Vapor Thrust by doing forward, then fireball motion + S/HS, you will get… a fireball.
I guess the reason for Arc Systems Works doing this is so that someone like Ky can do a running fireball (without accidentally doing a DP), and Sol can do a running Bandit Bringer (without accidentally doing a command throw).
So basically, in GG, you have no choice but to input the exact, strict DP motion. And in that case, the only real solution is practice.
Always been forward -> fireball for me, on stick or controller. If it doesn’t work, you’re always in the starting position controlwise to try it again.
Yeah thats the best way. I used to think forward > fireball motion but it seems awkward by comparison.
This “Z” motion is continuous and efficient.
If I’m using a D-Pad then I do the sliding Z motion.
For an arcade stick I use a Forward > Fireball if I’m planning the move far in advance. If I need to do a quick shoryuken to knock someone out of the air then I do a Z motion.
just :dp: or just 2 x :qcf: and If I’m planning the shoryuken ahead forward > fireball.
its easier to do it if ur on the left side cuz u have ur weight of ur hand to guide u so u can put lil effort and it will still come off, but if ur on the right side u have to Manually think about physically using ur two fingers and thumb to push ur hand to the left to get the “F” then go back to “D” then “DF”
before i only played characters that didn’t have a DP attack. but now i can do it. On the left hand side is easy, i just do F, D, DF. i dont even think about netural or anyhting. but if im on the right OMG. i had to learn to make sure i used my fingers and thumbs and make sure i push it all the way forward and then go down and then downfoward. The worst thing that would happen is just doing a crouching attack. once u can get it alone. trying doing
dp, fireball, dp, fireball, dp, dp, fireball, fireball, dp, fireball, fireball, dp, dp, dp etc.
when im on the leftside i can do combo strings and do a dragonpunch but if im on the right side i dont even want to try it incase i mess up a move, its bad if u see an opening that a DP can punish but u dont do it cuz u scared, it limits ur game plan. practice practice practice. i suggest learnign it the most simplest way cuz in a real match u wont have time to do two fireballs or afford to do a fireball or super by accident.
I was going to say that I belonged in the forward - fireball camp, but honestly, I’m not doing the fireball. Sometimes I’ll get the forward input, but for the most part, my dragon punch winds up being:
:r: :db: (:d:?) :df: (:r:?)
Which I think is what most people mean when they refer to a Z motion. I’ll usually finish with the stick in the forward position, but I think I’m hitting the button at the DF. It’s really fast, it’s really accurate. Playing as Sonson, it’s a requirement to get the DP down, since it can be used for pressure, meeting people in the air, and comboing into her staff super. Playing as Ky, even on Slash, the system is tolerant of the motion. I have had some problems with him, but mostly those relate to getting his wake-up DP timed right. DP on reaction’s never been a problem for me, so I assume this motion works.
this has to be the worst advice thread i’ve ever read… none of you have given him a proper answer.
Carnevil, my advice to you is to go into training mode and practice doing them in different situations using dummy record. ST has the tightest timing for dragon punches so practice their first. Learn how to do it on wakeup and how to do it from a crouching position by practicing.
Weirdly enough I can do the DP motion better on the right side than the left side. I don’t know why though.
Do it like this:
:dp: :nunchuck:
Hmm this thread just reminded me that I can’t do DP motions on pads… I can only do it on sticks and analog sticks.
dpads suck.
