EX Tatsu Uses

New serious 3s player is just wondering…

Does a ground tatsu or EX tatsus have any uses? c.mk tatsu is a combo, but is there any significant advantage using this over a hado or srk?

I’m not just wondering damage wise, could it be used in mix-ups or to gain range before a throw?

You should only use ground tatsu as a random ass mix up on wake up or to chip the opponent to death. Actually…in that case grounded EX tatsu is better. There’s no real reason otherwise to use regular tatsu. On the ground it’s parry/red parry bait against better players. EX tatsu can be annoying against bigger characters like Urien and Hugo. If used sparingly it’s very difficult to parry on reaction and can keep the gap closed on the big guys. Especially if you combo it after c.MK (which should really be what you’re aiming for). In most cases though you should still try to just look to verify c.MK into SA3. In reality…air EX tatsu is the only tatsu you’ll really use much with Ken. Ground tatsus are pertty much almost never used outside of random mixups with the LK or EX version.

I would test this, but I can’t right now. Could it be used in a strong fierce situation?

Example: Fake crossup, jumping forward, strong, fierce, tatsu.

Would that work in some instances when a jab srk wouldn’t connect? Considering I wouldn’t have enough meter for a super.

Remember that I’m a noob and I don’t know when a srk would combo or miss depending if its a cross or not. I realize that tatsu isn’t really that useful, but I want to get the most use out of it while adding to mix ups.

Well in situations that the SRK would miss, the first hit of the tatsu (which makes them standup) would probably whiff also, meaning they could potentially crouch under it as you go spinning into the distance. In the air EX is a great tool as it changes the trajectory of your jump (which is why jumping is so inherently dangerous, you’re committing to a movement), and can juggle for fat damages, is hard to punish, can even cross up, or gtfo of the corner.

I don’t think doing any of the ground tatsus is good. Another Ken can reversal Shippu you whether they got blocked it or got hit, but above all else, you have better options than that. It’s a waste to just burn half a meter on a ground Tatsu during a combo, where you can do a Shippu granted you have the meter for it, and it gives you a knockdown.

The EX Tatsu is best used to get out of corners, used as an anti-air, or as a cross-up on the taller characters like Hugo. Use it sparingly though, because there are a lot of moves out there that can stuff an air EX Tatsu clean.

EX tatsu is practical as a crossup, like the guy above me said. It can be used as an AA attack, sure, no problem there. But there is another practical use. Put yourself in a mindset where we know ken can dominate the ground easier than most characters.

When you’re ken, and you have already established a solid ground game vs your opponent, chances are that your opponent will wise up very quickly and make it hard for you to attack effectively. Your opponent will take chances to jump at you, no doubt. EX tatsu is good here.

Or else, in that same situation, when ken jumps in, be prepared to expect shit like vertical jump attacks or some shit to keep you out. especialy vs yun. yun can jump up HK/HP to knock you away, stopping your air-ways of getting in. EX tatsu will beat out these options. But that is’nt a given. With proper timing, yun’s vertical jump HP will stuff your EX tatsu.

Then, there’s the crossup shit. yeah, you know about that already.

actually if you use akuma do a hk>lk tatsu>h.shoryu
if ken do a flying ex tatsu>mk the mk will hit them while the enemy fly away

Arial EX Tats has more uses…

…like moving the opponent into the corner.

hm…the only reason i would even use a tatsumaki is for the cross.

jump in with super jump, on the way down EX Tatsumaki and itll change the way you land and youll actually fly behind opponents and hit them, immediatley follow up with a standing MK.

that cross up usually only works if your across the screen though. if your too close youll fly right behind them and land leaving you vulnerable to fast supers or attacks.

One time i used to an Ex tatsu to trick a chun-li into thinking i threw a ex hadouken
cuz she reacted only to the yellow flash and she got hit by the tatsu mid-super

^LOL!!!

NO WAY!

you’re not telling the truth.

edit: wait…i mis-read…i thought you typed ‘air EX tatsu’. because, i would have been like…:wasted:
