Evolution X (2008): Decade of Domination!

Are my posts just being overlooked or what here, there is tons of evidence out there of exactly this sort of thing happening. I don’t know what else we can exactly do to convince you guys of this.

You wrote the same stuff like 50 times in your post to me, so I’ll try to keep it short, but I really appreciated your new tone.

About the Tekken commentary, Ill say it again. I just told you what I heard. No need to write 4 times in the same post that you are pretty sure your comments were amazing. I didnt mean anything else by it. That’s exactly what I heard. If you’re really a top Tekken player or something and everybody liked it, more props to you.

About being not polite, you told me I had the most uninformed paragraph of the thread or something to the likes of it. And then, after quoting me about GG, you repeated the commentary. Pretty funny way of dissing someone. You can play semantics all you want, but any expert in any language will interpret your comments as a way to diminish me. Now that I called you out, you answered me like a reasonable person. You answered all my comments politely, although you still seems much more worried about winning an argument that does not even exist than answering my basic points.

My only point about SSBM remains as strong as ever. Youre just implying (or actually saying it twice) that you bet SSBM will have the biggest amount of players playing other games. You think more SSBM Players will play ST than 3rd Strike players will. I am asking you, and asking you very politely. Based on what? Because to me and apparently to everybody that attended Evo there were no Smash players playing ST, MvC2, 3rd Strike, CvS2 or Tekken, at least not as much as any of the traditional games out there. I dont see a single Smash player at the top 64 for any game, and I also dont see a single player from any other game at Smashs top 64. So can you please elaborate on why next year things will go completely different than at this year and why the data that you gathered this year about this is worthless in your opinion? I would gladly like to hear it.

Just to keep it clear to everyone, since most people attacked me ignroing most of what I’ve written about all games.

GG has less players at Evo than MvC2, 3rd Strike, CvS2, Smash and Tekken. Mybe ST too, I don’t know. If the staff takes getting CvS2 out into consideration, the same consideration will be made much stronger to GG. That’s it. The game can be the greatest ever. The gamers can all be the next Justin Wong, and other gamers may run events as well as the Cannons. The basic fact still remains, and that’s just what I pointed out as a single person’s commentary.

SSBM, this year, did not show a big crossover, if any. Most Smash players didn’t played MvC2, ST, CvS2, 3rd Strike, Tekken and even G. If they did, the numbers would be bigger. This is a fact. Somehow trag believes the fact that happened this year makes it more likely and not lesse likely that Smash will become the big crossover game next year. I can’t see why.

That’s all I have to say about Smash and GG. All other comments are irrelevant. I am willing to agree those are the 2 best games ever, they have the most competitive players ever, the most hyp ever and all that. Everytime I’ve been proven wrong here and at srk in general I withdrew my previous comments and I changed my opinion. But those 2 main comments about 2 of the 12 or so games I commented still seem pretty strong to me. If you can show to me that GG will for sure have a bigger number than CvS2 at 2k8 or that 90% of Smash players will enter mvC2, 3rd Strike and what not, after they also practiced a little bit for these games at home too, I’ll gladly admit I’m wrong and start vouching for Smash and GG in, and CvS2 and ST out for Evo 2k8.

I have an idea. We will make a poll for all the games suggested. If the game gets at least 128 votes, put it in the roster.

Make an initial preregistration site. Players must pay 10 cents in USD to sign up for a game. If the game does not get at least 64 preregistered players, boot the game out and keep all the money.

After all the games have been weed out, make a final preregistration site. Players must pay $10.00 to enter or $9.90 if they had paid on the initial preregistration site. If the game does not get at least 64 players to make the final payment, then boot the game out and return $9.90 to all the players and keep $10 for the trouble.

The numbers can be changed but this is my idea in general. This is to weed out all the games with low turnouts.

Give smash brothers it’s own day for quals and finals right before or after evo. No one who plays real fighting games will care and the Smash fools will be happy. 3 day evo for real fighting games with Smash out of the way. We can all get there and leave accordingly. Perfect.

[Coherent, sober post)QUOTE]

This is the best sober post you’ve ever made. I love you, you crazy drunk fuck.

I agree with J1n on this. Guilty Gear is about the only big 2d fighter thats going anywhere anymore. Currently it’s the only major game with a developmental future. Maybe SBX will go somewhere but Capcom hasn’t been showing much 2d love lately. Hell, they even went to ArcSystemWorks to make the game for them.

We can only hope Capcom USA can get enough cash and support to make new Street Fighter or something. But till then, Guilty Gear should be supported if only because it represents the survival of 2d competitive fighters.

Also if GG makes it can we skip this team tournament crap?

Please please don’t make it more like SBO. I got m,y green bars turned into red in a day for saying this but, compared to Evo, SBO really sucks for players. First, at SBO you can’t unless you alredy proved that you’re really realy good. Elitist.

Second, single game single elimination would easily solve all Evo’s problems. Heck, Evou could use its resources to even look better than SBO. But it sucks. The champion plays around 6 games. Some top player may play only one. And team simply screw up the basic idea of a fighting game tournament.

Third, with a couple exceptions, games are chosen much more by sponsorship reasons than by what the public likes to play.

Finally, they barely give any prizes. They want to put up a good show to promote their games, instead of rewarding the players.

My strongest opinion on this thread is to let Texas Showdown try to look like SBO, but make Evo look like Evo, very different from SBO, and thank God for that.

Great post. Good for reference.

Changing the games is not necessarily evolution. It may actually be a step back, especially if you cut 3rd Strike and MvC2.

Alright, I’ll stop spamming now. I really loved this thread and the ideas that can come from it. I hope most people can see it as an excgange of ideas and not a cruzade to ban certain games

With the release of AC for the US PS2 … I think there will be a lot more attendance. Also, making it a single tournament might make the entrance bigger.

2 things:
More food for hungry people during tournaments, or a dinner break.
Add a visual announcement of people being called up, often people have hard to pronounce names, and could be disqualified because an Evo Staff member called it wrong. I’ve seen it happen before.

And keep Guilty Gear, with a US release, USA tournaments will become larger. One of the biggest things about GG is it’s not only hard to learn, it requires a 100 dollar investment just to play it, and the legality of this method is questionable (or you could spend 200 dollars). With AC for PS2 AND Wii, its becomes that much more accessible to people to learn and practice.

Perhaps the other EVO feeder events can be used to test the waters for games. EVO finals could always be the event with the harder to break into lineup, but maybe making the others more fluid could help in finding new games for everyone to play.

Though it would seem that you would probably need to have any games up for consideration at more than one feeder event, more likely two. I’d say Evo East and Evo West, just because you probably have more people entering those who wouldn’t skew numbers as much as say East and North, or West and South just because you have more people more apt to attend both of those than East and West.

I couple of times I heard my name called then remembered “Wait…I didn’t enter any tournaments :looney:”

^^^

Word.

I plan on learning GG:AC between now and next Evo. I can assure you that I will not be attending Evo '08 if CvS2 is dropped.

Is this even an issue, or did some loser just suggest this? I’m too lazy to read back.

If the BYOC is determined by popularity, then lol at you fuckers who hate MBAC, cuz we got atleast 7 set-ups.

SRK Games:

  • CvS2
  • 3S
  • MvC2
  • ST

Should Not Be Debated … this is called Shoryuken for a reason! These are the games that made Evolution (excluding the B series). Evolution had always carried tournaments for MvC2, ST, CvS2, and 3S and should continue until it is not possible. MvC2 is probably the only game out of the four that will be taken out first … once enough DC dies … unless it is going to be ported again and is going to be almost arcade perfect.

EVO Games:

  • GGXXAC
  • T5DR

These series had always been at the EVO roster since 2K3 and is still continuing to grow AND under development. Keep these series alive. Unlike the SRK games, these games are actually still under development.

New Games:

  • SSBB
  • SC4

SSB has to be the biggest fighting game series in the US. Everyone I know had either played SSB and/or SSBM or at least heard it before. Also, SSBM had the SECOND most entrees on its FIRST EVO. SSBB is definitely promising … or at least, SSBM.
As for SC4, it is a new game. I think all new fighting games that might get good coverage from the media should be put in EVO. All of my friends are hyped up for this game as well. Also, EVO is a console tournament. Let?s prove it by not having all arcade games (DOA4 and SSBM are prime examples).

These games get my vote for EVO2K8.

  • CvS2 (SRK)
  • 3S (SRK)
  • MvC2 (SRK)
  • ST (SRK)
  • GGXXAC (EVO)
  • T5DR (EVO)
  • SSBB (New)
  • SC4 (New)

Hopefully in the future, I could consider more games as EVO games giving more room for new games. SSB looks promising to be an EVO game.

The Guilty Gear community has already proven itself. Read over Klaige’s excellent points if you want more insight.

Honestly, 3 man team tournaments in America hurt the game’s turnouts more than anything else. I love the team aspect, but perhaps a new format is needed? One option for Guilty Gear is SBO Melty-Blood team format. Two players on each team; A and B. When they play, it goes in this order: A vs A, B vs B, A vs B / B vs A if needed for the 3rd match.

The advantages:
MUCH easier to find a second team mate than a third.
Prize money is split 2 ways instead of 3
Less “filler” players, more exciting matches.
Less "best player on the team wins 3 games, other team mates take nap"
Potential to get Top 8 of GG on the big screen once more at EVO, instead of top 4
Runs the same amount of time as a 2/3 singles match, but cuts the player field in half.

Also, removing a core fighting game for Puzzle Fighter will have the same result as Mario Kart had on EVO2k6; low entries for a “potential crowd”. How many people entered Mario Kart? 60?

I second this idea.

We had to give GG singles OUR setups (even though we were already using them).

Next year will be even bigger!

:lovin:

Just wanted to add, I plan to get into brawl when it comes out competitively and guilty gear is my main game. Brawl is going to be HUGE like trag said.

its not its determined by first come first serve

except for the fact that everyone that watched smash finals at evo west east and world said the finals were really hype

tried it at evo2k5 niggas don’t sign up or pay yet they want the game i voted for kof2k2 and paid everyone is like oh we’ll get 100 people nope nothing

QFT.

werd.

We are already doing a LOT to pump up our community, even though it’s been tough without a stateside release. Pretty much, the same thing will happen when AC is released that happened when xbox version reload got released: a flood of new players, which is what GG really needs at this point, since the scene is already fiercely dedicated AND self sufficient… running biweeklies, ranbats, regionals, nationals, etc. I still can’t believe someone would think that GG players don’t care… riding on EVO’s coattails? Give me a break. This scene is HAWT even without EVO. I can’t believe you guys would think that GG is somehow “floundering” when it’s really just the fact that the people running EVO unintentionally did everything they could to make it appear as though the game wasn’t being played rabidly and intensely. Newsflash: it is. Thanks to teams, thanks to slots, and thanks to wonky release dates, you didn’t catch the full impact at EVO this year. Next EVO, GG will be TWICE as big, I’ll guarantee it if you stop this teams bullshit. I’d bet money on it.

Everyone one of those stations was in constant use though.

And in reality it was three tv’s and four monitors I believe.

Ah well.

Don’t take out CvS2, it’s the one Capcom game I’m not complete ass in.
