Evolution X (2008): Decade of Domination!

penny-arcade expo last weekend in august to :frowning:

pleaaase last week of july or first week of august i’ve had to miss school the past 2 evo’s 2k6, it was the first day of class, 2k7 it was the 2nd day of class

i disagree havoc i just started playing marvel last evo

The perfect weekend for evo would be August 16-17th. I actually would fly out to the US to come to Evo from Japan this year if its on this weekend. If its later than this I wont be able to go because its too close to the start of classes for the schools I teach at and they wont let me take vacation days during school days, espesially the first day of school.

SBO weekend should most likely be the 8th-9th if last year is any indication so this would work out perfectly to not conflict with SBO either and that way the Japanese can still come as well. I swear if evo is announced for the 16th-17th I will try to convince as many Japanese players to come as I can.

I think this weekend would work well for most other people as well if other posts are any indication. But these are just my thoughts and I know they probably hold no ground anyway. Just a suggestion

also… if there is so much concern over time restraints for having too many games (which I certainly understand) then why not simply consider making more games single match instead of 2/3? It works fine for Japanese tournaments and they run so fast, sometimes even on only 1 or 2 setups for huge tournaments. I know people want to argue that they want to get the most out of their experience by playing more in the tournament, but single match really would make people step their game up and play hard, no room for mistakes. And its still double elim so its not like you dont have a chance to shape up before its all over.

Brawl will potentially be out in march unless dates have changed, i don’t mind smash being there it brings players but. i think you should consider doing 3s team tournaments like SBO, especially if it’s going to be 1 round again that was pretty weak to come into not knowing till last minute. however i understand due to time restraints and financial reason (aka renting a venue) why you wouldn’t have it however this year IF it’s okay with everyone i will volunteer to run a 3s team tourney whether it be teams of 2 or teams of 3 we can decide later. hrm one last thing i like VF but if you have to choose between VF and tekken i can see why you would pick tekken and wouldn’t be sad if you wanted that more. anyway i’ve said my peace =D

this is not japan

ok

ok

CVS2 Single Match like Third Strike and Super Turbo, no Ratio Match. K-Groove Haohmaru would be among the top.

I’d actually hate to watch CvS2 singles.:wasted: That scene just needs me to jazz things up with my Maki. Sounds like a lot of peeps want Evo to be like a week earlier.:bluu:

the bottom line is it would allow for more games to be featured if some were single match

I really hope they don’t cut CvS2. I really wanted to enter this coming or next next tournament.

So would changing every game to 1 30 second round. Doesn’t mean its a good idea.

I get the most out of my experience by hitting up the club after Evo.

Personally…I wouldn’t have a problem with single match. It works for me in 3rd Strike any ways since I use a character that like 2 other people in the US use seriously in tournaments. The odds are in my favor to quickly win a match without the opponent being able to adjust. It could backfire and I could go 2 and out but…that means I just party out earlier I guess. I suck at everything else so yeah.

Yet…I do agree with being able to get more than one match at the biggest fighting game event in the country. Especially when a lot of the players that come can only make it to maybe a couple other events during the year.

Real life and the vast space that is America holds a lot of people down and it sucks when they come to Evo and are told that one match decides whether they move up or get knocked into losers or out of the event. I think people just weren’t prepared for it last year (since it was announced at the very last minute) but, even with prior notice it may be tough for a lot of people to accept one match.

hi I’m a little new here I was wondering if somebody could tell me if Evo east 2008 is going to be on the same date and location as Evo east 2007, I ask this because I just want to make arrangements well before the event this year, either poist a message or please email me with the information to Chrono26@aol.com

The dates won’t be announced until February, and from what I understand, the venue is subject to change from year to year

Arcana Heart is getting a USA ps2 release april 4th, it was announced today -

While it’s a tough sell, I wouldnt have posted in the thread asking for AH otherwise. We just had a hype tournment in December with 40+ people for teams and singles at NEC, and with the announcement of a USA release, the community is only going to grow from here, I believe…may as well request it even if I get shot down due to the game being in a few majors last year and this year with decent turnouts (Seasons Beatings II, which had 25 ppl,) NEC8, and the upcoming FRXI is going to have AH as one of their main events as well…I understand it’s a hard sell to SRK, but now is a better time than ever to give it a shot (considering how evo was lenient last year with ggxx slash and changed the format mid season to accent core, etc.) I know a lot of ppl shit on this game but I hope it can be taken into consideration to be at Evo.

Although MBAC is not getting a domestic US release, I think it’s time for me to just put this out here. Melty Blood has gotten huge numbers for it’s tournaments. Many of our West Toasts (Southern California Melty Blood only tournament before our 9th one) has grown to about 50 entries per tournament, with even out-of-state people flying in to play. NEC8 had 32 people enter with people from all over the country (and iirc 2 canadian entries too?) and from what I’ve heard (and seen from tourney footage) it was a really loud crowd. At the past Evolution tournament, we had 48 entries for a non-evo game and had to use a whole table until Guilty Gear had to come to us for some room since they came down really late. Just like AH, it’s gotten a lot of flak from SRK, but the community is growing, with even more people joining our forums and entering tournaments. I hope Melty Blood can also be considered seriously for an Evolution game along with Arcana Heart.

Second to both games

and i re-read some of the first post:

regarding GG: there should be less questions about GG this year. Accent Core will definitely be the game for this until who knows. i havent heard of any current plans for a new GG. also, turnouts at recent tourneys have been really nice. 40-50 for sb2, ~90 for nec, fr upcoming, etc…

Well…AFAIK Guilty Gear is done for a while…if not totally done. This new Blazblue game seems to be its spinoff that I’m assuming they’re looking to have take off. Other than the community being irresponsible 2 years in a row…there’s no reason not to run Guilty Gear. It should be one of the easiest games to run this year. As a solid 2d fighting game its a no brainer to have it run another year. Keep that 2d alive.

this may have been brought up or discussed already, but do you guys think that brawl should be an evo 2k8 title?

Yes…but solely because that game brings numbers. Not because I like it.
