Evolution of Fighting Games

I like Bushido Blade.

The only real thing fighting games need is to always have online, and it better be close to lag-free.

Bushido Blade was ahead of it’s time, we need more Bushido Blades

Madden has evolved enough to adapt to the changing landscape of gaming, it hasn’t evolved that much because it was lucky enough to begin on consoles, if arcade games became more popular than consoles then Madden would have to adapt to arcades

The reverse has happened with fighting games, they started in arcades and consoles became more popular, I believe that fighting games have to adapt, they haven’t yet, all the aspects that were necessary on arcades that don’t work on consoles are still being used, it’s a completely different experience and I think gameplay should reflect that.

Again, I will say this one more time…

Man… You need to play real people to know what Fighting Games are all about.

Take me as example, my friends don’t like fighting games, the few fighting gamers are more into King of Fighters (oviously because i live in Mexico - ā€œAKA - KoF Paradiseā€).

So, how to be competitive if you lack of friends who play SF?
PLAY ONLINE! Get GGPO and Start right now, the Competition there is crazy on 3th strike and Super Turbo, and most people there are friendly so they can teach you the basics.

Online Gaming on PS3 and 360 isn’t the same because of Rankings and BP, people bitching just to have higher tanks and more BP’s it’s stupid.

Even the Top#1 Ranked player would never beat someone like Alex Valle or Justing Wong… So… what’s the point of that God-Like Rank?

Also Story Mode? Skill build Character? You should be the one improving, not the god damn character… There’s only 3 modes that are needed in a fighting game: Traning Mode, Versus Mode, and Online Mode. that’s it.

Most people don’t care about play the damn computer, it’s useless and waste of time. But if you have to unlock all the characters, well it can’t be helped =(.

ok guys i dont want to see any more posts in this thread

What you’re saying is inherent of fighting games is actually inherent of arcade games, which nobody plays anymore since you have consoles which are more powerful and convenient

Some of the most popular games are The Sims, GTA, and Final Fantasy, none of which have any multiplayer at all, but they are a hell of a lot more popular than any fighting game, notice how these games are not arcadey in any sense of the word, they are made for consoles, they aren’t made so someone can come up next to you and try to beat you for less than a minute

What I’m seeing is that you guys, and I understand this is the point of this site, are not really fans of fighting games themselves, you are fans of competing against other players, it could be any type of game, but you guys chose fighting games because so far that is the only nature of them, due to the fact that they are the exact same games as Street Fighter 2, but you are selling them short

Fighting games are about one on one combat, that’s what you need for a fighting game, whether you’re playing Bushido Blade by yourself, Def Jam, Fight Night, or any of these games, it’s not about mastering combos and learning all the mechanics so you can beat someone else who tries to do the same, that’s the nature of competing, not the nature of fighting games, people do that with Counter Strike or Unreal Tournament, that doesn’t make them fighting games

What I said before is that both character skill and player skill always comes into play, some fighters are fast, or do a lot of damage, that’s dependent on what character you play, skill building would make that a deeper experience, customizing who is fast, who is slow, who does more damage, what moves they know and developing those skills just like fighters do, that’s what people do in Madden season mode, Fight Night, or any other game, it’s strategy and it’s entertainment.

If he posts again, I swear to god I’m going to kill myself.

…and one more time for the people in the cheap seats:

DEF JAM AT EVO

Final Fantasy 11 was a MMORPG iirc

The problem here is that you’re arguing for the redefinition of an existing genre with a devoted fan base, as opposed to creating a new genre or game.

See, you can say ā€œI would love a genre similar to fighting games with RPG elements that gives the player more freedom.ā€

But your rhetorical strategy has been to say ā€œStreet Fighter sucks because it doesn’t do X and Y.ā€

This is like going to the chess international championships and trying to tell everyone that chess sucks because it’s been the same for two thousand years, and that it should have dice and nerf guns.

Obviously what you are doing in this thread will not have the result you claim to want, so the logical conclusion is you like the attention and have no real aim other than trolling.

you are being trolled

all of us :china:

lol, what the hell are you talking about. go play def jam or whatever.

my last reply to this shithead, then im done

first, we are fans of the fighting games and what they are, you dont understand in any way what a fighting game is, thats why you have all this dellusional ideas in your head, second if you really love the fighting games as you said, you would know that the basics that they share arent what defines the games as different series, of course you are so blind because your shitty opinions that you cant see them, in any way GG is similar to SF in mechanics, gameplay or strategics, they share some basic things in common, and guess what, they share what defines the fighting games as a genere, but of course you cant see the differences cuz you never played the games that you claim that you love, i played def jam and i enjoyed it, i love bushido balde and i would love to see a new iteration of the series on next gen consoles, but in any way i would try to mix this games with the genere that i love, why, cuz they are different entities, the fighting games are what they are, its like saying that driving a McLaren F1 is the same shit as driving a Toyota 1000s, they are both cars, they share some mechanics that define them as a car, but this 2 have different caracteristics that define them, until now your been saying this, a McLaren F1 is the same as a Toyota 1000s, please inform yourself before saying stupid things

im done
