Evolution 2k2 Fighting Game Championships: Raw Footage 1

Here’s some rough, amateurish video footage I shot way back when at Evo2k2. I’ll be posting more clips in the future.

Evolution 2k2 Fighting Game Championships held at UCLA in 2002. This was the last of the arcade-exclusive Evo2k events before they made the inevitable switch to console-only versions.

Video Info:

0:00: Geoff “Lukesballs” Arnold. AZ player and former Tips and Tricks Editor. Best goatee in the community hands down.

0:25: Jay “Viscant” Snyder: Voted Sexiest Male by the Street Fighter Community

0:39: Jim “Rekkaken” Sejas: Wild Ryu player. Former Marine. In that order.

0:54: The Cannons, Tony and Tom. Doing their thing even back then. They still dress like that to this day.

1:39: Jesse “Jumpsuit” Cardenas: Craziest Fei Long out there. I don’t think he could beat Dhalsim though. =)

2:20: Vincent Delpino: Crazy OG EC Gief player. I mean literally crazy. Nickname: “Walrus”. Friends with Jason “DreamTR” Wilson.

2:26: John “FlashG” Gordon (I think): EC 3s/ST OG. I don’t think he can beat dhalsim though.

2:28: Arturo “Sabin” Sanchez: All around SF pro from the Big City of Dreams. He’s the new Shirts in SSF4. In the conversation in this video, he brings up the mysterious name “PSi.” Beware of this guy.

2:52: Nicholas K. Inabnit (aka NKI): Who would have known this guy would become one of the most respected SF scientists out there. He also speaks Japanese like a Japanese person.

That was a fun video…hope to see more.

I agree, that was fun. Amazing to see how far Evo has come since then.

Old Man Sim, thank you for posting this!

nice

nice

yes. it was better with arcades back then.

My favorite part about being at Evo 2k2 besides watching Mike Watson play his old guile and dominate on casuals (taught my brother Battosai and I how to play old Guile more effectively in ST) was of course meeting the great 1st gen street fighter legend Thomas Osaki in his return (Alex Wolfe introduced him to me). It was cool cause down in the X arcade at UCLA we saw this short japanese guy with his Evo badge flipped to a blank white card so you couldn’t see who he was, but by the way I saw him play Ryu I could tell he was playing him like it was Hyper Fighting…fireballs perfect distancing…sweeps as anti airs very patient
