“I remember making a all call for players to report for their pools in 3s or we would have to go to one game. Two hours later, barely anyone reported.”
damn wiz these players need to man up then, that is the players fault maybe vegas was pwning them to bad!! But yeah i mean come on don’t slow everything up so it’s only one game i mean that is worthless.
but in the finals of cvs2 come on at least 2out3 for sure.
from all i’ve read a staff volunteer list is great, get some people to help out bc 1 game is ass when people put so much into this event and get so little in return in terms of tourney play time.
Pool sizes are too small. ONCE AGAIN being lied to that games would be 2/3, and then switched to 1 game only really pisses me off. I know you were trying to keep things on schedule, but the problem isnt the length of the games; its getting everyone together to play. If 2 players out of the 5 man pool shows up, youve only knocked one match out of the 10. Waiting on players is what held everything up, not the length of the games. Each pool I was in had access to two TV’s, and if all of the players showed, the pool should have been done in 10 minutes, 15 tops. 5 if it is super turbo. Sorry if that doesnt make sense, Im just trying to point out how the number of games is NOT what caused delays.
Make larger pools. Texas Showdown had 8-9 player pools and 2/3 games, and compared to both Evo 2k4 and 2k5, went smoother and more according to schedule. Sure, it wasnt perfect, but people got to play, and even if half of the players show up, you can still knock 6 of the matches out while fishing for the other stragglers. People that threw down the hundreds for plane and room got to play 14-21 games in an single 8 player pool, while here I got to play 4 games of cvs2, 9 games of ST, 4 games of 3S. Yes, of course the pool will take longer with 8 people than 4, but it would take far less than two back-to-back pools of 4 players each because there will be no waiting for straglers. If two people out of 8 arent there by the time the other 6 have all their matches done, they deserve to be DQ’ed. Sure, that means only 2 of each pool will qualify, but will mean everyone gets to play more games, on time, and put on a better show. A pool of 5 people with 2 TV’s is overkill and a waste.
you dont need 8-9 people in a pool because then there are less people in the bracket, and i think the semifinals were the smoothest part of the tournament.
I had a stick pause on me during two matches, but it turned out the connection in the joystick was quite loose, and 3rd Strike will auto-pause if a controller is disconnected. It’s not just about disabling the Start Button.
Maybe submitting a cell-phone number as a contact method could work as well.
Remember to always double check the bracket. Don’t report any loss until you know for sure who you lose to. I reported a loss to a guy that I did not recall playing him.
the only thing i would change as far as the brackets go after pool play is to just run a normal 64 man bracket from the pools. Every one should start from scratch.
You know what would be cool for next year? Maybe a sirlin strategy lecture, or a buktooth strategy lecture, for those who really care. I mean it’s interesting to see what top players say about their strategy, I’d stay awake for that shit, as long as it was good.
