Evo Special Event #1 SF4 5on5

One word : Favoritism

-DR.B

Tournament Placings are a politically safe way to choose a team, but it can lead to mixed results, double elim tournaments aren’t accurate to 5 places, and even then, you have no indicator of how those players will do cross region.

Qualifiers aren’t “fair”, picking the team isn’t “fair”, they are all risks, and ultimately I don’t envy the captains that have to weigh regional politics vs pleasing the crowd vs winning the event.

If you want to be the best player in the region, win those tournaments, if you want to be the best player overall, win a tournament with all the players present. This is something else entirely, that doesn’t mean you can’t vouch for favorite player, but i’m seeing tournament results, what i’d like to see is more like: “How is this player going to take down the other top players that also have the ability to place in tournaments?”. This is aside from team srk (team redemption?), which ink described earlier.

Replies like this just boggle my mind. John Choi has an 18 year history as a consistent top player, and during that time he has shown significant leadership in organizing and helping out the player base. He has planned tons of events to help players, including regional tournaments and multiple SBO fundraisers. Because of his player outreach, SBO has made him one of their official liasons to determine how the US SBO slots are awarded every year. I literally can’t think of anyone in the country more qualified to choose a high quality team in a fair way.

i wasnt there for the singles :frowning:

lots of people weren’t there for singles

Well that’s fine and dandy…and tell me about it…I ran tourneys in Nor Cal for years in the scene, and have brought players together in the community on numerous occasions, as well and till this day I help less known players in which many of Choi and the group he runs with DO NOT do…and he and his “people” find ways to ban me from my own region thread just because they dont like me which is VERY biased. Plus he runs with these elitist new comers who become Mods over night and try to influence people to HATE other players. Yeah I will put him and that on BLAST. So this “hero” of yours is not so squeaky clean. I’m not saying this is regard to wanting to be on the team or anything…but MAGNUS1234 is right in my opinion. Yeah he is a Top Player and blah blah blah…over all that doesn’t make him a good or better person.

Hey, Im just saying, will he know who is actually good in Norcal to pick a good team? I just don;t see him at any tourney’s so I’m a little worried he might not know who is good. Thats all.

who is scott bender?

Why is west coast making things so complicated.

If you think you’re better than someone on the team then call them out and play them for the spot.

The players are supposed to represent the best players of the specific region, so put the personal stuff aside and find out who is the best. If you’re not sure about some people then have them challenge each other and you can record to verify. It’s really not complicated at all, there’s no need to pull a Dark Prince and call this a popularity contest, when you can just have the players battle it out, which should be especially easier since, unlike MvC2, SF4 has online play.

Anyways, most likely Justin will just run through everybody anyways. Beast coast. <3

If only SF4 had a multi battle system feature such as MvC1 PS1 used mixed with multi char CvS1 system, that way after the best player beats someone he doesn’t play the next player with full health.

Anyways, pokemon battle system ftw, JUSTIN, I CHOOSE YOU!

that would be me

Please don’t take my reply as hate or being negative being that I respect valles game a ton, and overall he’s just a dope guy nothing negative to say about him or choi. But to inkblot, you have to see where people are coming from, when Dr. B said “Favoritism” You replied with how he’s done a lot for the community and has been a top player.

But how does that at all relate to his SF4 game? I’m sure choi would wax me but all that’s being said right now is, theres people who been winning SF4 tournaments those people should be the captains. Valle to my understanding hasn’t won any big SF4 tournament, so you giving him the spot based off performances in other games does seem kinda foolish.

I would think Gootecks would be Socal captain, he’s been the most active cali player going to tournaments and placing consistently am I wrong? Mike Ross has been winning or placing top 3 in tournaments also. Now if Valle or Choi just got to pick 5 people for those teams excluding them selfs that would make sense how their “leadership” and other thing would be good for picking a team.

I’m not trying to stir anything or be a asshole just wondering what’s going on and I can see where other people are coming from.

p.s I’m a scrub, please don’t ban me.

Regardless if Gootecks isn’t captain he’s still gonna be in the top five.

AMEN !!!:woot:

who cares about captains. they look like they were chosen based on who was good in the region, not based on whos good at sf4.

choi is captain leave it at that.
