Evo Special Event #1 SF4 5on5

I’ll bet at least 5 of top 8 at Evo are arcade players.

I think leaving Mike Ross and Bobino out is a mistake.

I understand you’re questioning my decision based solely on my latest tournament performance. I’ve been too busy as of lately to train new blood to our scene rather than enter the same top 8 tournament I’d place/win in no matter what.

Look I don’t have anything against Mike Ross. I know he’s a talented player but a decision has to be made.

Everybody on this list has won a tournament but that’s not the reason they’re on the team.

I know what I’m doing and our performance will prove it.

alright, gl

This still makes no sense to me. Where are the console tournaments?

Wow no mike ross? Gotta be early april fools joke

I never said the SKILL of the players was a wash. I said NO ONE IS GOING TO PLAY ARCADE as much because they don’t have all the characters, and everything is moving to console. That’s it. Nothing else. Believe me, I’m fully aware of arcade players. I think if you knew me you’d understand why you thinking I meant something else made no sense.

ANd about the comment about Valle taking console more seriously…he does not have to “play” in console tournaments right now, because that was my point, there AREN’T any in SoCal for some reason lately.

I mean, everyone is so hyped about all these arcade tournaments, but the EVO tournament is on console, and SoCal hasn’t stepped up to have a big SF4 console tournament yet. I love arcade more than anyone in here. I freaking opened one with a lot less hype and way off the radar then the ones you guys always talk about/frequent, but believe me, I’ve being going to arcades regularly since 1979-80, and I would love nothing more than everything to be arcade glory, but you have to take the facts seriously. Why would anyone train on the arcade version anymore for EVO when you NEED to know what the other characters can do/play against? It SFIV light right now playing arcade. And that’s the truth coming from someone who ONLY likes arcade. We have a console based quarter match setup for US SFIV here, and it makes a hell of a lot of money and we have a lot of people playing throughout the week.

So to me: Console setup to look like arcade machine $600 cost. SFIV double setup with two machines $8500-15000 depending on setups and when you purchased it, but the fact is people have to PLAY the console version at all the majors, not the arcade. This is one game where there should be no argument, but I never said arcade players were inferior. That’s the funniest thing anyone ever thought I said, LOL

Never implied that. Maybe my understanding of the phrase “is a wash” is wrong, but seems to mean practicing on arcade means little to nothing, and I’d disagree. I think the competition you get in the arcade atmosphere will mean more than a few console matchups, and I doubt anyone playing in arcade is avoiding learning those matchups, besides myself. Simply put, even if success at Evo is your goal, I think practicing at arcade is worth your time.

pherai, I don’t deny people can’t get comp playing arcade. Comp is the point, but someone with one of the MANY new characters is going to come out and win because people that only play arcade might not be used to Cammy, Gen, Sakura and end up losing…I just don’t think you can get the full experience from that version, and I think that was the point I was trying to make about Valle, is he is probably beefing up for EVO with the console version…

this.

if mike ross is going to be on wild card team then i wouldn’t mind seeing:

Mike Ross
Ken I
Shigz
Dagger G
DanHibiki

We had one at Cal Poly like 3 weeks ago. Mike won that one too

yup… or at least have a playoff of some sort

mike ross!!!

No disrespect to the picks, but

Mike Ross is a beast. He is just being too modest and nice to not say anything. I mean, most people with dignity wouldn’t say much about being snubbed.

Atleast have a playoff. This always happens every year.

iirc this never happens in socal afaik

So which characters are being used in the So Cal team?

Gootecks (Balrog)
Paul (Sagat)
Ed Ma (Ken)
Valle (???)
Combo (???)

I’m 75% sure Valle uses Bison.

I think Mike Ross should be allowed to play on the EC team. if WC team doesn’t want him it shouldn’t matter right?

Edit: Can Canadians get in on this too?

Funny. This would have been accurate if you said, “this isn’t alpha 3, or alpha 2, or sf3 (classic), or marvel 2, or marvel 1, or XMen vs. Street Fighter, or Super Turbo…this is street fighter 4.”

There have only been only a handful of players who have consistently dominated over many versions of Street Fighter. Everyone knows who they are, and obviously they should be captains in their region.

That doesn’t mean you have to agree with their team picks, and maybe Valle’s making a huge mistake by not putting Mike Ross on the team. We’ll see. But to suggest that Valle is not qualified to captain a SF team is hysterical.

Wizard didn’t pick the captains.

Yes it would matter. The point of the exhibition is for regional US bragging rights.
