Maybe we should stop talking about SoCal v EC and start talking about Cali v NE or SoCal v NYC or NorCal v MDVA, etc. When people talk about WC v EC now, what they’re talking about is almost always SoCal v EC. But, I wonder if it’s finally time to either try to consolidate California as a scene, which after all still has considerably fewer people than the eastern seaboard, or to start splitting up the East Coast into the individual regions that in reality it’s already made of.
I regret staying until the end for this. As it got later it seemed like people just didn’t really care about winning it anymore except maybe Combofiend. The Nor Cal crowd was funny. Sabre’s matches were REALLY entertaining though.

I was actually having a really similar conversation with someone on the airport shuttle to LAS. They were saying that Cali needs to unite with the 5 on 5s and I agree. Watching SoCal and NorCal it just felt like if they combined and got the top of their guys out there, it wouldn’t have been so bad against Team Cannon Bros*…err…Wildcard.

Who cares about norcal hype? They lost, they put all their hopes in one player… everyone else on norcal team was free like bread and soup at a homeless shelter on christmas eve.

This statement is irrelevant, for all the other “good players” on the east coast there wasnt anyone good enough besides Rahssan to be on the 5 on 5 team that wasnt already on. Especially since he could easily be a utility player and use up to 6 different chars… Everyone else was second to the person that was actually on the team using that character and it has already been proven. Joe won the sagat spot from Eric Kim, and Nestor so they cant complain. No one is better with Rufus than Justin only Marn comes close and he used Viper. There isnt another Viper on the East coast besides Flash Metroid and he isnt battle tested in such a high pressure scenario. Sanford placed higher than anyone else on the east coast besides Justin so you cant complain there either it was a smart choice. So what the fuck is the problem!? Justin made calculated choices in his player selections for the team and even let everyone play for open spots which no other captain did. They just hand picked players and dicked over mike ross on top of that. The fact that most members on the team were empire only means Empire already had a majority of the top players to begin with. So im still not seeing how people are still talking shit im truly confused. Seriously people need to stop talking and start practicing.
Bottom Line everyone thought cali was the shit, and they both their teams swallowed dicks cause they both lost to better teams. They should have been practicing wit Crackfiend instead of on the forums talking shit about how good they were and how “Free” EC was… From the looks of it Cali was free and it wasnt even east coast that did it… They got rocked by a bitch ina dress I was there… I Seen it.
On Paper, I had this coming down to EC and SoCal because I had no clue who was on the wildcard team. But seeing Sakura, Guile and Cammy show up to fight was just crazy!
to be fair, both WC and EC did their fair amount of shit talking over the past few months. so dont front like it was just WC.
Besides, the shit talk is necessary. people gotta hype their game up. and everyone wants to back their words up, therefore, breeding a more competitive battle ground.
and socal gave their props to EC. Valle even said that EC stepped their game up bigtime. So i dunno what the problem is.
Anyway, 5on5 was really fun, i was really glad to be a part of it. It definitely one of the most memorable things ive done since ive been going to evo/b series. Thanks to the cannons and wizard for setting up a monster exhibition

Anyways yeah…a lot of you heard already from me on IRC. I said pretty much everything I wanted to.
No disrespect to any of the players. I’m just gonna point out how poorly the teams were picked though. It was as simple as looking at who made it out of their pools, where they were from, and then slapping them on a team. I mean come on, I was DQ’d in my pool and still made it out 
no excuses for anyone who said they had a hard time…fuck all that.
But the real kicker was…what’s with 4 whole west coast teams? 4 and a half at that, I believe. I don’t even remember who was on the wild card team other than like Sabre (their saving grace) and maybe one other player. Look, I know it’s a wild card team…but there could have been MUCH better players on it. Put any 4 players from the EC on you had a team right there. Hell, even put 4 other west coast players. Not just for team wild card, but those other random niggas on the other teams.
I bet people were watching the stream like wtf is this shit? I think the 5 on 5 event was just extremely poor overall. So much more deserving players that could have been in there.
Keep in mind that I’m not saying anything about me being there. I just wanna see real niggas playing some good matches, not saying anything more or less.

we already discussed this magman, but im gonna go into more detail.
first of all. the wildcard was designed to make the event more fun to watch. to see a lot of matchups you never see. And no one on that team is a slouch. seriously. Hsien got fucked in the regular tourney, but i know hes good enough to take on anyone. Anyone that knows the scene and the players knows that hsien is NOT to be taken lightly. Dagger G places high when hes in cali. He is a strong player that just happens to use a weaker character. Mike Ross is Mike ross. =) I’m on the team for the unfamiliarity factor and the fact i been doing well in sf4 overall, with a very obscure character. And DJB13 brings cammy, another diverse character, who is also good. Unfortunately he got upstaged by sanford, who obviously is a fantastic player.
Honestly dude, dont take this as an insult, but you dont know shit about the scene and tourneys. You honestly think just because you dont make it out of pools that you automatically suck? GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE! There have been many times where the best players in the US get randomed out of pool play due to many factors(i.e. stacked pool, random pauses, just playing like shit that day, list goes on and on). For all I know, you had a simple pool. Just cuz you made it out doesnt mean you are good. IT DOESNT MEAN SHIT. so dont even let that shit get to your head. I dont know what place you got, but honestly, if you werent top 8, then your placing means NOTHING. Matter of fact, double elim is a format that really only accurately determines top 2. everything else is just lucky bracket placement. So honestly, i dont know where you get the nerve to shit on other players. I mean with that mentality, i guess sanford was a fucking scrub at evo 2k6 mvc2 cuz he didnt make it out of his pool. even tho he beat duc(the champion of mvc2 that year) for the biggest mm ever. But i guess he sucked according to your logic. I guess shady K sucked back in 2001 at b5 when he didnt make it out of his pool, when he almost single handedly innovated magneto into what he is today and just happened to get randomed out. I can give you a million examples dude, i can go on and on about insanely good players that get peaced out early from time to time for various reasons
You say teams were randomly assigned. do you even realize that every single team was fucking assembled BEFORE the sf4 tourney even happened? with exception to the wild card. It had nothing to do with throwing people in that didnt make it out of the pools. that’s silly talk
Socal had a very strong team. was it the best team socal coulda made? dunno. They got so many strong players that its hard for valle to pick. So they lost to wildcard. it means nothing in the grand scheme of things. 1 match, and there were natural counter character matchups that were beyond any of the teams control plus matchup unfamiliarity. Wildcard also has really strong players. Norcal has the top 5 most consistent players on their team. Same with northwest, with og jason cole leading the way. I highly doubt flash metroid just randomly put together southeast(atleast i think flash was captain). Floe ran 4 tourneys to get their team. And southwest was unknown and a tourney was ran to determine the spots. All of this was done before the evo sf4 tourney.
SF4 is very new, you dont know whos fucking good at this game, except for the celebrities. I find it really fucking insulting that you call a lot of us randoms cuz our names arent justin wong, or sanford, or john choi. You dont know anything about this scene, in the grand scheme of things. a lot of these guys were killers in the scene for a long time. This is a new game and a lot of people are playing. Lots of old top players are coming back, and theres lots of newer players coming out of nowhere doing sick shit(juicebox abel, eduardo puerez, OG shadyK, just to name a couple players).
I just find it disrespectful that people shit on other players, especially when its from players that havent really made a dent in anything themselves.
