Evo North: The Midwest Championships THREAD

Comps for 3s, nice.

Reiko: This is more like an MWC, not an EVO like in Vegas…

This thread is entirely too long to look through for answer, so…

Questions:

  1. Is Nickels going to the public (i.e. non EVO-goers) this weekend?
  2. Has any additional space for the tournament been secured (i.e. that empty building next door or something).
  3. Where will the BYOC room be?

Woot, comp sticks ftw!

I imagine your puttin in hard springs? Doesnt matter to me though.

well either way… I’m gonna be there.

Humbag: No, they are going to be medium spring default

Squelched
Questions:

  1. Is Nickels going to the public (i.e. non EVO-goers) this weekend?
Yes as long as they pay the regular Nickel City entrance fee of $2
  2. Has any additional space for the tournament been secured (i.e. that empty building next door or something).
No, we use the party room like we do every year
  3. Where will the BYOC room be?
There are some TVS in the party room that people can use to practice, but ONLY if they pay the COVER CHARGE for EVO.

Keep in mind this is more like the MWC that we run each year, which is arcade oriented so if you have been to our tournaments in the past 13 years, you know what I am talking about.

Im pretty happy now. I wasnt sure what to think about ultimate since ive never played on one, but ive played on competitions for quite a while before i switched to a japanese stick.

Good stuff Dream! Hope to meet ya at Nickels.

We’re all pour, I only have enough to enter one tourney and buy enough food to get by, with just a little bit left over to pay whoever is willing to let me crash in their room.

5 bucks too much for you? lol that’s what we call a “perk” when it comes to having a fulltime job
Personally I didn’t think spending 5 bucks on 20 minutes of gameplay was bad at all…that was all on one credit

it’s the technology that’s behind the game that makes it interesting…there are RFID chips embedded into each card and given it’s own frequency. Each card represent a battalion in your army. As you move the card the RFID readers on the sides pick up the signal and your battalion moves respectively. You gain experience unlocking Arts of War that turn the tides of battle. One of cool things is that win or lose against CPU or Human the machine will spit out a card that you can add to your army.

A lot of the players that I spoke to are avid players of RTS’ and Magic: The Gathering. So I can understand if you’re not that open minded toward other genres. I’m just givin’ my moral support towards the arcade scene. Overall.

In that case do we need to bring tvs and stuff? I’m willing to donate a tv for friday - sunday. Not looking for a discount, just want to try and help get as many screens going as posible.

Syxx: We are all set on TVs, it’s the guys running the sides that are going to need 'em…so you’ll have to ask them

I’ll keep mine at the hotel then I think.

As long as we’re not stuck playing on some 13 inch tvs from 1985 like the last couple of console tournies at NC.

yo george justin and garvin are at my place. come over and play.

True, i don’t have a full time job, and only have a part time job, BUT:

5 bucks PLUS 2 credits. THats 11 bucks right there. (Each credit is 3 bucks, dont forget)

And then every single time you play, its 3 bucks. Playing the game 5 times, including the first training mode time, is 23 bucks.

For me, if i have 23 bucks to spend at an arcade, why not go get 46 plays of Arcana Heart/Melty Blood/Tekken: DR instead? As far as arcades though, to really get my money worth out of the game, i have to spend a lot and be completely dedicated to it. If i play Melty or Arcana once and dont like it, big deal, 50 cents. If i play AAA once and dont like it, then thats 11 bucks right there spent on a game i played once. Its not that i “cant afford it” its more that why spend it on that when there’s better things to spend money on at arcades?

And believe me, a good chunk of my money in Japan went to the arcade scene, so don’t act like i don’t support it. And i know plenty on how sangokushi taisen 2 works. I have friends who were into it. My personal stance was that playing fighters was better worth the money for the time, and more fun as a whole. As i said, AAA looks awesome, and no doubt if it was much cheaper i’d have been playing it, but if i go to the arcade with 10 bucks to spend, i dont want to be playing a few credits of AAA and then be done after a short period of time. 10 bucks can last me a few hours in Japan on an arcana heart machine, and i easily had the most fun playing that. And don’t act like im not open minded towards other genre’s because of one post where i said its too expensive for me. I used to play magic, and yes, a good deal of money went to that. Yes, its similar, but for the same reason that i stopped playing magic, i dont play AAA.

if I ever decide to show up as I’m kinda torn about registering right now since I have no guarantee of a ride to Nickel City until Saturday, I’ll probably bring Senko no Ronde and see who’s interested in playing this game besides HeartNana. -_-

Haha, yeah ill play, but im not that good at it. Do you need me to bring a 360 controller or are you gonna have 2?

Heh, I’m not that good at the game either. -_-

You should probably bring yours, as one of the two controllers I have is a Madcatz. I’ll be bringing my DoA4 stick (the sad thing is I have this game as well, but I haven’t unlocked everything for it yet, and I got this along with Senko at the same time) if I want to play it.

Also, this is probably a really bad time to ask it, but from I’ve read so far, you don’t need to pay the coverage fee if you have your own equipment to play some games? I’m kinda curious since my friends were interested in checking this event out, but they were taken back that you have to pay 20(+) dollars for admission.

If u bring it, I will play
