Not every match can go to last game last round. But seriously look at that top 3! They were unknown to Evo this time last year.
Fuudo played really well. In terms of hype he def wasn’t the brightest star, and it was unfortunate that the entire evo season culminated with someone who hadn’t been especially active in any tournaments outside of japan. I remember Fuudo’s ryu from vanilla, as daigo ownshown him… so i knew he could do it. But I still would have wished the finals were as hype as they were in 09. Even last year with ricky wasn’t that hype, at least for me since I wasn’t convinced he had a shot against daigo at the time.
Nothing but respect for Latif. He thumped JWong, Daigo, Tokido, and Poongko in one tournament. That takes iron.
Latif may have lost, but he certainly ran the gauntlet eliminating Tokido, Daigo, and Poongko. Though, Poongko absolutely destroying Daigo was the most hype moment of EVO 2011 (imo).

This year’s AE finals weren’t hype, only because Fuudo was so dominating. He had a ton of answers for Latif’s offense (Viper’s in general, he also beat Wolfkrone), and exploited Latif’s defensive options (or lack thereof) especially. However, if Latif had reset the set, grandfinals wouldn’t have felt so anticlimactic. Anyway, shout out to Latif. He along with with Poongko were the MVPs of AE. Viscant and PR Rog for MVC3. REO for MK.
BTW, if you didn’t know Fuudo, he beat Daigo in a mirror match to win an international French tourney back during vanilla that included Louffy, Eita, Alioune et al. In fact I think he came back from losers. Look it up on youtube if you care. Also winner of a couple SBOs for VF.
Part of me as glad both Daigo and Jwong didn’t take evo (in AE and MVC3 for the respective players). People still believe certain players are kings that will never be dethroned. Hopefully the myth is shattered without a doubt now, also Poongko didn’t win so dickriders have no one to flock to.
Poongko vs Daigo was definitely the hypest evo moment for me too.
