What on earth does general facts about USB technology have to do with one very specific setup and interactions of several USB and non-USB devices that, by several accounts, was resulting in large amounts of input lag?
Like the fact that the splitters that were used provided less power to connected devices than the console’s ports or powered splitters would have?
My old Joytron converter for the 360 is finicky enough when I hook it up directly to the console. It rarely works when hooked through a USB hub, for whatever reason. With all the specialty modded devices and converters that are used in a tournament this big, I’m kind of willing to believe that this could have been a legitimate point of contention for some players.
Yeah, people are suggesting it, or at least I am - I’m at least suggesting the conversation take place. I realize the Asus monitor is high quality and has a very small amount of lag. That is awesome, and I applaud Evo and MLG for getting good monitors. But as this discussion has illustrated, it’s not just about whether the monitor has lag. There is confusion about the proper settings, questions about which cables to use, accusations that the stream equipment slows down the setups, etc.
CRTs are basically free at this point, and yeah they suck to lug around but smaller ones aren’t an issue, and they could at least play like semifinals and top 8 on a CRT if the top players would prefer that (and don’t you think they would? Why the fuck wouldn’t they? Why deal with the possibility of a laggy set-up when you can just… not deal with it?). Furthermore, I focused on the monitor issue because playing with CRTs or at least some CRTs for the more advanced stages of the bracket would be a lot easier than switching to 360, although it does seem like the PS3s are the main culprit.
Of course I don’t think it’s likely to happen, but I try not to go through life with that attitude, and I especially think it’s a poor one for members of the FGC because it’s a small community where one person’s actions or voice really CAN make a difference and make seemingly unlikely things, usually awesome ones (like Evo itself), a reality. I look at it like this: people give their lives to these games and there’s a lot of money at stake to top it off. Serious sports have standards to ensure an ideal and consistent competitive experience whenever possible.
I don’t care if a few total noob casual fans don’t want to watch the tournament because it’s not on an HD monitor or whatever. I care about the competition. It’s not out of the real of possibility that some of the dropped combos in the finals were in part due to a sub-par setup. If you don’t have a problem with that and think it’s something that should be discussed (and I’m not addressing anyone in particular here), then we really don’t have the same approach to gaming and IMO you should leave these decisions for the people who really care about it. Dudes didn’t drive their ST cabs across America for the ToL because it was convenient, ya know?
At the very least I would like Xbox 360. The PS3 is inferior or on par for the majority of the games. Every time I go to a PS3 tournement it always feels worse than when I go to an Xbox one. Even if I practice on PS3 it still is just worse to play on.
The PS3 did drop a lot of frames, especially in Marvel. The stream station didn’t even read my dual modded stick (when every other PS3 read my damn stick lol).
It was the splitters for SF4 though. Seriously, half the matches, I had to put in my dongle first so that my opponent did not get the ONE free direct usb port before me.
I don’t mind though, it just takes 3 matches to get used to.
Lmao at the person who compared it to online… Playing on shield helicarrier with zero on a ps3 is still not even close to 5 bars online on either system
Yall just some salty bastards lol… I switch from system to system to CRT to HDTVs of all kinds and it really doesn’t take me too many matches to get adjusted to it and to play my game effectively. And im sure most of yall have played at a friends house or a local and im sure they dont have the exact same setup as you.
A modok player made top 8 and could execute on these “laggy” setups… what excuse do you guys have for dropping magic series into super?
Think of the xbl connection he has to play on. LOL jk.
I’ve played on laggy monitors that were much worse than green bar online with my CRT.
Evo is on ps3. If you dont practce on ps3, you have no reason to complain. Its not like we keep it a secret that the event is on playstation.
