If you’re not practicing under the conditions of the tournament, do not complain about things not matching your play experience at home. I play on a CRT. If I go to Evo and get random weirdness coming out of the Asus monitor, it is my bad for not being prepared for it.
Everybody has known well in advanced now what the deal is. Either adjust, buy Evo the number of consoles + games + DLC to make the switch easy, or shut the fuck up about it because at this point griping about set ups makes all of you look like idiots.
I’m gonna play AE on my laggy PC. I’m gonna win my locals once I get back from my trip!
This really is a stupid topic we got here.
Consoles overheat, and like anything that overheats, unfortunate things happen.
If you’re actually serious about competing and going to EVO
Then you should in theory have the money to shell out for a PS3/360, ASUS/CRT, and a controller to play.
If you only have one console, it’s not that bad either. You can always get converters for Pads/Sticks or dual mods.
Not the TO’s fault you can’t pull off 1f links like you do on your 50" Dynex from BB.
Wow man. A bit of a rage monster? Like the last guy said, its only logical to look at the setup when top pros are dropping easy combos. Why not tell them to shut the fuck up and quit whining when they post about laggy set-ups on twitter. Geez man, relax a bit.
ps3 mvc3 is the equivalent of ps2 mvc2. I think you’re an mvc2 player right? mvc3 on ps3 is really that bad.
for world championships the most accurate port should be used every time to determine the best player. In fact, EVO used to go out of their way to supply cabinets for authenticity. There was like 2-3 EVOs in the past that ran cabinet mvc2 because console mvc2 was only 99% accurate. That last 1% was such a big difference back then to make them change their minds. Now they just don’t give any fucks about the quality of the port
its not about going out and getting a ps3. Its about playing on the best version of the game and the FGC has always sought after the best port for tournament competition except for recent EVO tournies. The last 3 EVO marvel tournaments have been ran on the shittiest port available and marvel is the only game @ EVO to get dealt this hand repeatedly.
I only play marvel and I refuse to go to EVO until they fix this mess and almost every player in my area is under the same pretenses.
There was nothing wrong with the setups. It was the same Asus and PS3 that you have at home. If you are playing on 360 then yes, timing is different. All monitors were made sure to be put in to Game Mode. Just because you lost to some random scrub don’t blame the setup that almost EVERYONE in the fgc is using. Instead of complaining go and practice more. Quit using the American Option Select: You lose? Blame it on something. You win? I’M DA BES!!!
Poongko played 2 weeks of PS3 the previous year before evo just to get used to the timing, you gotta take the initiatives peeps. In the old days we had to use big clunky US sticks depending on the arcade you went to and sometimes the stick or buttons wouldn’t work. Now we can use keyboards and hitboxes rofl, all we gotta do is adjust our timing slightly so I’d say things have improved greatly.
nonono, you guys…
SSFIV doesn’t lag, frame drop, or any of that on the ps3, not even during the ultras. nothing is happening in that game! it’s not stressful to either console. (i can’t vouch for the xbox, but i’ll just assume it’s fine)
if people were dropping the 1-frame links they’ve done a million times before, it’s most likely a setup error. you’d think evo would be on top of that kind of thing.
This post has nothing to do about EVO setups, it’s in relation to the PS3/360 debate.
I play Viper in UMVC3, I like to think that I can execute her combos quite consistently. I played my neighbour in his home today (he uses a PS3), I dropped almost EVERY Viper combo, in fact, it felt like it was online. My experience isn’t tournament nerves or anything else. But there is a noticeable difference between the two consoles.
Just a note, if the EVO monitor is still the ASUS VH236H, then the “Game Mode” is just a color profile. It does not affect input delay or anything else. It basically just ramps up the saturation, and puts the RGB to max. It’s not like the Game Mode on many TVs that removes post-processing.
well, umvc3 is a different story. i find it to be a lot more stable than vanilla, but there’s still a lot going on. maybe you should politely tell your friend to do a little trial and error with his ps3/tv settings until the game plays like it’s supposed to. the places where the xbox screen tears will be the places where the ps3 will slow down a little.
Don’t know what the setup was like this year, but last year did in fact have lag.
There’s a reason why people kept picking the same level/stage on stream.
Basically, when picking other stages, the game would slow the fuck down dramatically.
People will say “nuh uh!! PS3 can handle it!!” well for some reason these PS3s couldn’t.
Maybe it was the setups? I dunno.
Picking the training stage resolved this issue (somewhat), but people still stated that there was input lag.
I can vouch that last year, the on-stage stream setup did have some kind of lag (input lag?), but not 100% sure about the setups in pools. But they did SLOW DOWN really bad unless training stage was selected.
And this year, I heard that people had to pick the training stages for each game to prevent some of the lag, so I dunno.
(Some games didn’t slow down. Like the 3D fighters)
This is already a known fact. PS3 processes its video strangely and cannot handle too much at once. Reason why backgrounds that have a lot going on in the background have lag in those stages. As far as the input lag goes, the PS3 has 3 frames of lag built in to the console. It has nothing to do with the setup. That’s why I said in my original post that the timing is different from 360 and PS3. W/e though, Evo is PS3 and it not changing until next gen.
its a well knwon fact that capcom is unable to optimize their code for the console that its not the developing lead of the project
just look how awfully bad is sfxt on xbox360
the fact that other games dont have any kind of problem despite the console, shows that this is an issue from capcom
yes there are differences on the versions of sf4 and mvc3 on ps3 and 360, but in reallity they are almost minimal
and evo uses ps3’s because at the begining, with the failure ratio and all shit that the 360 had, it wasnt intelligent to go with the 360
add that for that time, the majority of the player base was on ps2, the converters were more accesible, and evo already owned various ps3s because tekken 5 dr
wrong, read above
also both the ps3 and the 360 fare the same when it comes on input lag, a minimum of 3 to 4
Sorry bud, but that’s complete horse shit. It’s entirely dependent on the coding of the game. See, people take SF4 (and Capcom games in general) as the logic behind the PS3 being just inherently laggy, when that’s just not true. Short aside, the 360 version actually runs fast where as I believe the PS3 version was closer to the arcade, but that’s besides the point.
We all know that the PS3 has two frames of delay compared to 360, this is documented.

You know what else is documented? Tekken 6 on 360 has input lag compared to PS3.

Anyone who says the PS3 has inherent input delay is either uninformed or a 360 fanboy, simple fact of the matter is that it’s on the developers to make a good port. That’s not to say that the PS3 isn’t a problem for select games, Marvel at the very least should be played on 360 if not AE as well, but it’s not a problem with the console, it’s a problem with the coding.
