Evo CvS2 event idea (top 8 runitback)

I’m going to evo this year, and I’d like to play and watch as much CvS2 as possible while there. Ideally, there’d be a bomb-ass cvs2 side tournament, but I haven’t heard of one yet, and I don’t know if ppl have the time and interest to run such a beast. So, in the interest of hype and all the cvs2 players out there, I wanted to see what people thought about an idea I had: an exhibition tournament with the theme being a “rematch” with last year’s top 8 placers? Here are some tournament specifics that I thought might make it an interesting event for everybody (note: I wanted to PM the placers to ask them about it before making the idea public, but since I just now caved into making another srk account, I can’t send PMs):

-The tournament would be an exhibition including as many of the top 8 as possible. I know d44 bas won’t be there this year, but I think we’d only need at least 4 of the top 8 placers for the idea to work. To fill out the bracket, the tournament would also include 2 to 4 qualifiers from a qualifying tournament earlier at evo. Having qualifiers would give other cvs2 players more interest in the event, and get everybody practicing to take down the legends.

-The tournament format is up for discussion, to make it fit the schedules of all the placers. Personally, I’d like to see 3 of 5 matches, single elim be the standard, as a good compromise between saving time and avoiding random results. However, a different format could be used on the agreement of the 2008 placers.

-If the 2008 placers want, the placers (and whoever gets the qualifier spots) could put in money for a pot to make things more interesting. I also had the maybe-crazy thought that, along those lines, a paypal account could be setup where the cvs2 players everywhere could chip in money to add to the pot. I for one would gladly throw in some scratch to help keep top-level US cvs2 alive.

So that’s the idea, more or less, so far. Like I said, I only think this idea would work if we can get at least 4 of last year’s placers on board. I created this thread with hopes that at least buktooth sees it and comments, but what does everybody think about this? If this ends up going down, I’d need some help running the qualifying tournament, but we can worry about all that later.

Dammit, I looked at the name too fast and thought Mr. Wizard posted something about a cvs2 event.

(wishful thinking)

Can’t make it this year, but i did hear Dr. B wanting to hype up a Side Tournament this year.

I remember reading Dr. B’s post way back, but I didn’t see or hear anything since then. Which leads me to think it’s not happening. What I’m concerned about is that everybody is assuming somebody else is going to run the event = nobody does anything, no CvS2.

Who the hell has time to run a full CvS2 tourney and is willing to do it? I love the game but not that much.

I would if I could go (and I was supposed to go this year )

Time constraints are one reason I suggested having a shorter exhibition event than a full-on tourney. I’d at least help run a full CvS2 tourney, I don’t really care about any of the other games being played at evo. What else is there to do? Screw around with games that aren’t as good? Pass.

I will be there this year and will bring back the wepeel station! I might also have a ps3 for sf4 but that is not my priority. I am gonna make sure there is at least one dedicated cvs2 station! Sorry! I can’t help but be redundant on a forum like this! How do i do rc elec???

Good, at least we can count on some casual cvs2 at evo. Are there usually multiple cvs2 stations set up in byoc? I ask because I’m wondering if it’s worth bringing my ps2 with me.
