It’s a decent tournout, that’s not the issue. The problem is that other games have much better tournout than kof.
Aty nec if I’m not mistaken, P4 had 3 times more players than kof. At FF, kof had 24 attendees, while P4 and MK both had over 30 (35-32).
So, what does kof has for it ? the hype from evo 2012 ? that’s a weak argument in it’s favour.
mvc3 and sf4 are set, ttt2 takes the 3d spot, p4 is asured for anime spot.
MK is the best positioned for the 5th spot - better turnout than kof, a dedicated scene, good sponsors.
If there are 6 games, then kof will take the 6th spot, but otherwise, I can’t see it at evo.
Can we stop with this anime, 3D, misc spot nonsense? Shit is stupid as fuck.
I agree. Just about every fighter has the character shooting fireballs out of their hands. Unless it’s like Virtua Fighter, they’re all at least a little anime now, and that’s NOT a bad thing.
It’s not even about that, lets say SC5, TTT2, and DOA5 are all getting the same spectacular numbers at tournaments, like they’re blowing everything not SSFIV and MVC3 out of the water and theirs a lot of people entering all three games. All three games are pretty different so do you just choose one of those to fill some sub genre spot? Shit is stupid.
That’s not even remotely the issue. Evo has Wiis in stock, Evo has crts in stock, and the hd era has no bearing on anything.
The issue with smash, as its been said each year now, is for lack of a better term political between Evo organizers and Smash community. Issue is the wrong word, difference of opinion/perception.

Bigger problem is that SSB Melee can be an absurb time drain, grand finals itself usually takes 40mins-1hour. That wouldn’t be a major problem if not for the fact that TTT2 itself is a time drain (so is KOFXIII if they are running it). Don’t think it’ll be feasible to have a top 8 with both games, that itself will probably take at least 6 hours to finish.
Yeah, I’ll agree with that. I mean, even Bala vs Mad KOF, which people cite as “proof that KOF takes forever” was an abnormality and just one of those rare instances where things went the way they did.
So you’re saying it wont happen again? The Mexico vs Korean beef at KOF Evo is fucking awesome man, it had the highest people interested for a reason. Entertaining man!
cvs2 revival
BITCHES>:(
Why even…
Oh don’t get me wrong, I hope it happens again, but truthfully I can see something happening like Mad KOF getting fluke knocked out early top 8, and Bala beating Romance in like a 23-25 minute Grand Finals.
You are completely wrong. We gave away all of our CRTs, and Wii’s to charity.
I’m sure MLP fighter will be a main stage event.
God help us all.
Oh, we’ll that’s unexpected. You guys still kept the jp ps2s. Was a safe assumption.
MadKOF mentioned in Season’s Beatings that he’s thinking about dropping KOFXIII, as the game still hadn’t exploded in popularity in Korea even after his EVO win. For all we know there’s no guarantee that he or any of the Koreans will still be playing KOFXIII by the next EVO, or whether they’ll be coming to Vegas in the first place.
Cafe id still streams KOF 13 regularly.
Yeah, I was just about to ask if I was crazy for remembering some streams from them over the fall.
So I gave it a little more thought, and I do feel like it’s still possible for it to be a 6 game lineup.
The main problem last year was space of course, and I do remember Inkblot posting that this was their #1 priority for 2013.
This is the reason why I thought it was going to be 5 games for sure, but then I remembered that the venue from 2012 was actually smaller than 2011.
Back in 2011 I’m pretty sure that the venue was somewhere around 50,000-55,000 square feet while 2012 felt like 38,000 tops. I kind of feel that if EVO2012 would have had a venue of the same size as 2011, there wouldn’t have been any of the problems with the capacity and the other unexpected stuff which the EVO staff had to deal it with just a few months before the event. Now of course, we can’t really blame the EVO staff for that, because ballrooms in Las Vegas are usually gone pretty fast, specially in the vacation period when EVO usually happens. My point is that I’m pretty sure the reduction of space from 2011 to 2012 was more because of Date/Cost/Availability rather than the EVO staff thinking they didn’t need all that space.
Anyway, Wiz also tweeted recently that there are already contracts being signed for EVO2015 and EVO2016. That could mean a couple of things. One is that they’re not taking any more sponsors for both 2013 and 2014. The other one is that some sponsors are interested on investing on those years specifically and not the current and next year. Whatever way it might be, what we can tell for sure is that EVO is getting even bigger and better this year.
With that and what Inkblot posted a while ago, I believe that this year the event is at least getting a ballroom of the same size as 2011, might be even bigger.
I did a search online and I couldn’t find a lot of information regarding ballrooms at the Paris. Out of the few lists I could find, only 3 names come up, but 2 of them are way too small for EVO, and the other one is 85,200 square feet!
I’m not in any way sure that EVO2013 is being held in this ballroom (called the Paris Ballroom), but if it is, GOOD FUCKING SHIT!!
If EVO is being held there, space problems are instantly gone, you can have lots of casual stations, sponsor booths, Indie exhibition, etc etc etc.
I don’t want to get too exited though, cause I really can’t verify if those are the only ballrooms at Paris, however, I’m pretty sure that the 2011 size is a minimum.
Now, back to the 6 games thing. EVO already has all the equipment and staff to run a 6 game tournament as they did so last year, so that isn’t the problem.
The problem with the 6 games last year was that during finals day, we fell way behind schedule, not like that’s an unsual thing in tournaments, but in 2012 it was a bigger problem than other years because the Cannons and Chris Li had to stop the tournament and create a safe empty line to the exit many times. The crowd was getting really packed and wild nearby the stage, and it could have been dangerous. I myself during the grand finals of SF4 decided to head towards the exit and watch from there on what I thought was the last game (I was right) of the set, so I could exit without problems. If there’s a considerable amount of space available this year, then we shouldn’t have any of those delays again.
There’s other couple of things that can be done to help the schedule for finals day and still include exhibitions and stuff. One is that you can try to only play top 4 for some games during finals day. That has worked in the past, and it has proven to be effective for time management in many tournaments, however, the problem with this method is that the smaller communities could feel alienated because they’re not allowed to have a full top 8 played. The other method could be to use different ballrooms for the finals. Ever since EVO2010, there has been different panels at EVO that are usually held in an extra smaller ballroom. I don’t think 2013 is changing this, so I’m pretty sure there will be more space available somewhere.
Now, about the Spectator and Player pass thing. I’d like to think they’re not coming back this year since space shouldn’t be a problem, however, I personally always enter to play in the tournament anyway, so that’s not really an issue for me.
It seems I overextended myself, sorry about that. I like EVO
With everything I just said, here’s my revised list of games for EVO2013.
SSF4AE2012
UMVC3
TTT2
PA4
KOFXIII
PSASBR
These are my new picks.
My dream would be to replace TTT2 with something like GG or Blazblue
I’d love to see Blazblue in, but I’d ideally have the top 5 in and PSAS replaced with it. That being said, that we’re likely to have P4A is something we should look at as a positive and be glad for to show that those of us that play “Airdasher Fighters” (I admit I got the name from some Montreal people) can potentially produce good numbers, that we can bounce back, and that we can get our games featured at EVO. If P4A gets featured then I hope to hell the Airdashers scene as a whole takes note and that we can get BBCP in for EVO 2014.
