Evo 2012 needs to change

wait… people still play mk?

Uh, that RROD thing wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, dude. As has been said though, Sony’s a sponsor so naturally they’ll use Sony machines, and the only serious thing really about my original post was the comment on MK9/Tekken/KOF.

Whoo two more games that don’t heve scenes and haven’t been released on the lineup!

NEC XII

AE- 228
UmvC3- 231
BBCS2 45
MK9- 70
GG 36
T6 86 man (SC5 on demo)
SC4- 57 entrants (SC5 on demo)
KOF XIII - 57 (came out a week before)

SCR-

AE- ~ 200
MvC3 ~200
MK9- 53
SkullGirls- 83 (free tourney w/ 1000 pot?)
KOF13 ~75
BBCS2-40

Once again, the numbers for NEC and SCR. Come to your own conclusions as to whether people still play MK9.

Uh… has Sony ever been a sponsor for EVO? As far as I know they went for PS3s early on which would have been a brain dead decision in the RROD era. And they aren’t be willing to pay for the switch to 360 once the issues SF4 and UMvC3 have on the PS3 is undeniable. Personally I think that’s disrespectful to the guys paying 70 bucks to play, but maybe people will disagree.

Lol at thinking Team Clockw0rk was heavily played in tournaments. Further lols at thinking that Iron Man was getting enough play to really put them up there. Further lols at putting in that 2003 tech with Tron Bonne, Spiral and Blackheart.

Let me fix that list for you real quick

MvC2 = Storm, Sentinel, Magneto, Cable, Psylocke and Captain Command. Guest appearances by Cyclops, cl0ckwork and maybe team Z and sometimes Iron Man.

Don’t forget Dhalsim. Also, Charlie, BB Hood, Ken, Sabertooth, and Gambit, they’re all low mid-tier but still useful in their own ways.

Guys, I miss Marvel 2.

Nice quote box you used there.

BTW, who’s going to magfest this weekend?

Missing the point. Saying a roster of 8 is boring is exposing yourself as a kid who’s never played world warrior.

“Actual” Roster vs “Functional” Roster are two different things.

SF2: WW had a functional roster of 2 characters, and you couldn’t do mirrors.

Skull Girls may have 8 characters, but who’s to say all 8 will be viable?

Marvel started with 52 and boiled down to 10-20 usable.

It’s usually a percentage thing, but more variety is NEVER worse.

Yes sony has been a sponsor. For the record, if people know Evo is using ps3 day in and day out, why are people NOT playing/training on ps3? You can bring up the 2 frames thing, but if you play on ps3 and solely on PS3 then it just becomes part of the game you play and you get over it. It’s disrespectful to no one because everyone knows the games are on ps3 and will be on ps3 until the next wave of consoles hit.

You could say the same thing about SFxT, who’s to say 4 characters won’t be the only usable ones? Bringing up an 8 character roster as a detriment to a game is simply speaking on ignorance. Especially if you ever bothered to follow/play skullgirls and know that balance has been their #1 priority since day 1.

Any sponsorship by Sony had no bearing on the decision to use PS3’s.

T5 DR was PS3 excclusive, and the first next gen game used at EVO.

EVO buys PS3’s for T5 DR for EVO 2007 and 2008.

SF4 comes out in 2009.

EVO has PS3’s and no xboxes.

End of Story.

Now you’re getting all theoreticall and “what if?” when you know full well that more characters gives more chances for variety in the top/high tier level.

It’s simple statistical probability.
I could care less about Skullgirls “balance is #1 priority” pledge. Balancing a game is damn hard. Variety is fun. They could still fail at balancing and have surely failed at variety.
I’ll go as far as this: not many games with rosters under 10 characters have been very successful competitively.
SF2:WW was a smash hit, but it’s a competitive nightmare. The first “good” SF2 was Turbo with 12 selectable characters, and almost every one was competitive (bison was kinda ass)
SF3: NG was damn terrible. Twin and Ibuki infinites all day.

SFA: was Guy sillyness and awful.

BB started with 12, and even that kinda hurt it. It’s now up to 20.

K pertho shut up you never played, the whole thought people have about mvc2 is always off… dhalsim was played talk to vdo about his team, Iron man was hellllla used, team clockwork had an era were everyone was using it or trying to. I hate these kids who act like they know mvc2 because they play mvc3 and watch random yipes videos.

Why yes, yes I did play. Not only that but I was getting hit by Iron Man refly’s before you entered this place. The truth of the matter is that those additional characters that people want to add to the viability pool where the random people putting Storm instead of Wesker into Wolverine/ X / Akuma. When it really came down to it, the number of people playing clockw0rk or Spiral trap where significantly outnumbered by those playing 2 god tiers and an assist. So yes, there are a shit ton of other characters that “could” be played but at the end of the day they weren’t the ones that were getting the most play.

Honestly how many people play Matrix properly? You know Matrix, that team with the Cyclops? oh yeah that’s right, Jwong. Last time I saw Tron in a tournament was Mike Z and he didn’t make it very far in it. While this isn’t the thread for it, the fact remains that MvC2 is still a game of really 4 characters and some assist. Name a list of all the people playing Iron Man? Josh360 and Combofiend. So…let’s be real, the metagame at your friend’s house and the one at tournaments were vastly different and that’s ok.

Capcom ruling the U.S. scene with an Iron Fist?

…That sounds about right.

Dude, you’ll make him go Super Saiyan that way…

Scamco? Supporting your game at tournaments is scamming now? For those of you who dont read the article they are donating FIVE THOUSAND dollars to the pot at FR, and ONE THOUSAND to the pot at Winter Brawl.

Hyper Fighting…?

I’m scared that Renegade pretty much called it on Christmas Eve…:wtf:

Your problem is not with that guy, he is just defending MVC2. He didn’t anything wrong at all…

The real problem is this guy here…
