Ladies event seems better for Saturday night fun than serious Sunday. Gotta agree with whoever said meritocracy.
Surprising
I keep reading about this fan poll on eventhubs. Where is the fan poll so I can vote?
No marvel? seriously? You have to be friggin kidding me.
For one I don’t really understand the extreme hate against the Dreamcasts, mine’s never crash ever and I’ve own it for many years, I know some have malfunctioned but I’ll be glad to donate my DC for the evo finals.
I hate to say it but, I can’t even imagine the possibility of waiting through all these random games, TVC, possibly melty blood to see the finals of SFIV(the main event)
A picture is appearing in my eyes and I don’t like it. Evo used to be a tournament for the players by the players, but what I see right now is too much corporate booty smooching. TVC scene is very small, heck the game just came out like a week ago, and its being announced as an official game? Whereas MvC2 must be played on ps3 because otherwise capcom would get mad, give me a friggin break.
2 tourneys for SSFIV? possibility of melty blood (aka pedo fighter) just because a bunch of fat kids were real loud at a major tourney? (did any of you remember how loud the mvc2 pools were?) 3rd strike I can sort of understand but even that was more hype that BB if you put it that way.
To be honest G.A.M.M.E. tournament in Miami is actually a lot more hype than evo, those guys are doing everything right.
I love Evo and I was looking forward to attending but I’m just not feeling it, I’m really not.
I’m sorry, but the reasoning here just isn’t sound. I get that this is coming from the best intentions, but it is hugely problematic in practice. Is the “male dominated” fighting game community intimidating for female players? For some, probably. The fighting game community is intimidating for new players in general. Overcoming that newness and being able to play confidently against the competition is part of what getting better at the game is about. By singling out women and saying “we’re going to give you your own event to help you adjust,” you are making a distinction in the way players are treated based on gender. When you say “we’re doing this to help you adjust to the community in a non-intimidating environment,” the message it sends is “we expect you to get scared away if you have to compete normally.” Now again, I want to stress that I understand this is coming from the best intentions, but that approach is patronizing, and I can’t see it as anything remotely positive.
Every single person who plays fighting games competitively has had to put the effort into the game to stand amongst their peers, regardless of gender. Women who want to compete should have no different experience in that regard than men who want to compete. EVO is where the best of the best compete, as individuals. Every event should be open to every individual, so that the best of the best can rise to the top, not “the best of the best,” in the primary tournament and “the best of the female players” in a side event because we’re afraid that if we don’t give them their own event they’ll run away from the game rather than learn from their losses the way every single other player has to in order to be able to in order to compete.
melty blood? hahahahahahahh
How would you know how big it is/gonna be after only a week?
SSFIV isn’t even out yet, nobody’s playing it, what a small scene!
Yeah, I could see the pervs wanting Femme Fatale. I mean, let’s add that instead of 3S, or Marvel… The reason 3S didn’t have “hype” at Evo 09 was because 3S was left in some goddamn corner in an alley way. SF4 took up too much space, and that online stream you guys were doing was stuck on SF4 for the whole day. Double elimination doesn’t help it either. Forget double elimination for 3S, and make it 3v3.
the whole 3s is stale thing would be fixed if they just changed the shit to single match single 'lim, teams or singles.
…ah well my vote would probably go to Melty Blood either way cause i know itll piss enough people off if it actually won
I actually came across a tranny while playing T5DR online.
I completely agree with what Mr Jared said in his blog post about the Femme Fatal tournament, and would much rather MvC2 or SF3 or even MB be put in its place. It’d make a fine side tournament, I suppose, but putting it as a main event is really (as Jared put it) making them a freakshow, regardless of whether or not that’s intended. If you want more people to get into the game, have a noob side tournament, don’t have a main event (let me emphasize that: main event) where you expect the quality of play to be lower. Hell, if its just a noob tournament (i.e. helping the male -and- female communities improve) then more women will stick with the community, by the logic of some of the red names supporting it, as they will have overcome the pressure of the male dominance. Thus, I’m in support of it being dropped to a side event, and SF3/MvC2/MB/CvS2/GGXX/pretty much anything being put in the two remaining places.
i personally cant wait to see the degree of heckling and sexist mannerisms that will follow the women’s tourney
shit i’d be offended if there werent so much potential for raw entertainment
This is a pretty important issue, seeing as SRK has several transgendered players from what I understand.
Seriously. Are people still talking about the Women’s Tourney? Let’s move on already. There’s another suggestion that’s been thrown out there that SHOULD take way more precedence. Instead of pouting about how said special event “might” take away time your from your current flavor fighter of the month, why not support what VirtualFighterFour proposed already? Should the Evo staff agree to do it, well, “huge ramifications” would certainly be an understatement.
From the girls-only tournament we ran at AI, only one girl still attends and enters the regular AI tournaments for sf4. Though i know what improvements we could have had, i wouldnt do it again because the time investment isn’t worth the time spent.
i do agree in part with pete278 and Jared. we need a tiered tournament ranking system, like how capcom does with battle points, or an ELO rating system (like chess)
I personally like ranked matches like my local racquetball league; players are split into 4 ranks AA, A,B,C/D. AA-ranked players, can’t join C/D-ranked tournaments, etc. or special rules where A-players may play with a -1 handicap against a B-ranked player.
I would like something similar done for fighting games in some way.

Reposting this since people are stupid and don’t read.
Game’s old and nobody really cares anymore, bro.
Get over it.
Or cry some more. Either way it doesn’t matter.
So, how are these females, whom you assume are all brand new to fighting games, any different from the multitude of guys who are new to fighting games since the release of SF4? Because there are a lot more guys in the exact same situation that you try to attribute to all females than there are girls.
I understand what the intention is, and I know it’s not taking away some other tournament in theory (especially since nobody’s gonna enter anyway). I just think it doesn’t belong at Evo. It’s suggested that the idea is to encourage more girls to play…I just don’t think it does that at all. You’re saying that if a girl is good enough, she can play in both. Okay, let’s say she’s really good and has a chance of getting out of pools. How does that make things any less intimidating for the other girls? Using Choco as an example again because she regularly competes with/against the best in Japan, do you think random girl from wherever, USA is going to be less intimidated playing her because they’re anatomically similar? Please. What likely happens is you end up with a bunch of random guy’s girlfriends entering because they don’t have anything else to do while they’re there, a handful of girls who actually want to play the game, and a bunch of chicks who, at the end of the weekend, still have no idea where they stand.
Care to rephrase that?
We need MvC2 and Melty Blood
Drop that silly ass female only tournament and HDR. HDR is not hype at all and when i watched that shit last year i almost went to sleep
I’m going with this man. Melty for Evo. Thanks.
