lol, I remember the amount of shit I got last time for saying female only SFIV tournaments were dumb during the Active Gamers fiasco.
I don’t give a shit about it now, so I’ll just voice my opinions on this joke of a selection.
Evo finals is suppose to showcase the cream of the crop of fighting game skill, and to be honest I have not seen one American female SFIV player that has impressed me. I don’t want to see sub-par SFIV play in finals (when the game itself is already very sub-par). If we can somehow convince some of the top Japanese female players to fly here, then this event would be somewhat less of a sham, but I doubt that would happen.
If this was some side event, then it would have less of a problem, but if it is denying a spot to MvC2 (which IMHO had the 2nd most hype last year), or old-skool games like CvS2 and Guilty Gear, then something is gravely wrong.
So unless they’re playing topless, fuck this shit.
I love the idea of the all-female SSF4 tournament. I also hate the idea of an all-female SSF4 tournament, for mostly the same reasons that everyone else who hates it does, but I’m willing to look past those reasons because of the possible benefit of making the community more accessible to an important demographic. So right now I think it’s just what the doctor ordered… on the other hand, if we’re still holding all-female tournaments like three years from now, we’re probably doing something wrong.

If the female tourney goes on the stream, that just seems like exploitation. I mean… If they were good enough players to be thrilling to watch, they’d be in the real SFIV tournament…? So are we supposed to watch for sex appeal or what? Or are we supposed to view it as a curiosity, like “oh look, a girl can actually do a combo, how cute”?
Personally I don’t think girl-only video game tourneys are good for the image of gaming girls. :xeye:
But then again, I’m not a girl, what do I know. If they think this is the way, then I guess it is.
Hopefully this won’t take precious stream air time from any other game going on at the same time.
It would be really nice to see some of these girls enter the real SFIV tournament as well and get far, though. :china:
i’m still lost at why females need to still be put aside from males in games at this point.
and it’s SSF4 at that. I see more females play BB than SF.
I’m even more lost on why this bumped out a possible different game that could be taking that spot so everyone won’t be cramming votes for the forum voted game.
I think most of you must have missed 2009, otherwise you shouldn’t be surprised that nothing but SF4 and Tekken really matter anymore.
Female-only SSF4 would actually probably outdraw most of the games from the last year that aren’t returning.
